I need 2 new pre-cat O2 sensors for the 528. I'd like Bosch but they're all for >9/98 and I'm a lowly 6/98 build. :(

There's not many other options available unless I go cheap Chinese and I'm not keen to do that. Genuine BMW is an option too but they'll likely cost more than the car is worth.

Automotive Superstore and Autobarn sell PAT O2 sensors. I know nothing of this brand but they're a little pricey (~$160ea @ AS) and that usually tricks me into thinking something is better than it is :D

Any opinions here?

Thanks.

I refer you to a similar thread on PF.com recently (find it yourself, it's not too long ago). I think the general concensus is that they are cheap CCP crap with a "brand" name, and that thus the correct thing to do is buy NGK/Bosch/genuine/whatever is respectable and available. And no no-name CCP crap, which is possibly the same carp as the PAt stuff, or could be even worse.

Yeah cool, this is precisely what I was concerned about.

I'm going to try and find what is different between >9/98 and <9/98. Gut says nothing.

Thanks!

Looks like the site: operator works for other domains on google, but not for PF. So either google is not indexing PF because PF finally pissed them off too much, or PF is blocking google.

And....PF appears to be blocking all indexers. site: operator on bing returns lots of hits saying that they can't show info for the site.

All good, I'm happy to avoid. They are not confidence inspiring in their branding or info.

In the meantime I managed to find a seller with Bosch sensors who advertises them for 1997 - 2000 which obviously includes pre and post 9/98. So that makes me happy, I'm much happier with Bosch.

@GTSBoy I logged in to PF and searched there. Couldn't find anything.

I wonder if its got anything to do with the sponsorship from AS ?

Hmm. I had a good look (w/o searching, because I'm not logging in) and couldn't see it either. I distinctly recall the thread, not many weeks ago. It must have been removed or perhaps put into the back section. If it was in Off Topic you should at least have been able to search it up. So if I'm not hallucinating, it is fairly decently removed.

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.
    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
