What's this Foreign Object?

My fuel feed line is connected to this metal canister instead of the factory hard line. I have no idea what it is. I'd like to be rid of it but it's got a red and black wire connected to it and I know stuff all about wiring. I've been having fueling related issues and I think this thing might be the culprit. I've attached some pictures of the object in question, the wires connected to it and what I think is where it connects into the harness.

Does anyone know what it is?

It's a fuel pump. EFI, high pressure, but specs otherwise unknown.

So you're telling me this is an external fuel pump? I've had the car for at least 6 years now and it's been there the entire time. I had the car tuned a couple years ago and I had the shop do the fuel system, including a new in-tank Proflow 340 which shit itself about a year later and I replaced it with the same model. I find it odd that they didn't remove this or even make mention of it. I seriously had no idea what it was.

How would I test if it's functioning?

Pull it out. Put a suction hose on it drawing from a bucket of petrol. Put a discharge hose on it pointing back into the bucket. Add 12V. That will tell you if it works at all. Then put it back in, turn the engine on, and see if there is 12V on the terminals. That would suggest that it runs when the car does and adds its "capacity" to the total pumping system.

I'd try removing it, connecting hoses and see if that helps.

Depending on specs, it could actually be restricting the flow(it also might be helping).

Forgot to update. I ended up removing it and found out that it's dead. The car seems to run better than it did, although I haven't driven it hard yet. Literally just a flow restriction.

If possible, get your tuner to check air's to make sure everything is still where it should be.
