yesterday wen i was driving my car, an r32 gtst, it started to make a weird upleasant noise from the front right, and then not long after that the hicas light came on.... the noise generates when the car drives across bumpy roads or when the car turns, it was especially obvious wen i turn right, but somehow it got worse and in the end the sound just comes on wenever i turn left or right... can't really describe the sound but it's simillar to wen opening an old heavy door... anyone possibilly know what this is by any chance?

i would suggest getting under the car and tigtening every nu and bolt on that side of the car and using silocon spray on all the bushes and joints.. if that don't work if could be something like your ball joints. i have a sound coming from the left side and have tried many things to fix it, 3 different pro's have looked at it, and all of them have said " i don't know mate".

have fun :(

thanx for the reply, i've gone through other threads and found out it could be loose guards too.. i'll definitely get it checked tomorrow, problem is i'll have to bring the car to my mechanic, which requires access to freeway, do you reckon it's safe to drive it tho?

having the hicas light coming on is quite concerning me too.. the thought of having the front wheel coming off while driving is really scary

This is a long shot and you probably have already checked, but have you looked to see if your power steering fluid is low?

I know the hicas light appears when this is low. And the noise might just be things groaning because it is low on fluid.

just took the car to my mechanic today and couldn't see much obvious points as to why it was making the noise, (it didn't make any noise at all today!) my mechanic realised that the brake is a bit funny so he's gonna machine it and put on new pads, the suspension will also be taken apart and put back on again just to make sure every bolts are on tight

as for the power steering, he picked up that it's leaking a bit, and thats getting fixed too

hopefully that'll fix the all the problems

thanx for ur advise guys!

just to share a few things with u guys, found out today that my previous r32 (already written off) was a cut and shut import... thats why the chassis twisted a bit wen the car was hit at the back <- therefore a writeoff

how dodgy was that car.....

well, i took the car to my mechanic's workshop and got it back yesterday

didn't make any noise on my way there and back, car was fine when he drove it and hicas was working fine..

had a few minor problems with the car and he got that fixed, n pwr steer leak was fixed

but today when i was driving, i heard the noise again!

i started to realise that the noise goes on and off, like squeaking kind of noise

my shocks are quite new, they're aftermarket shocks, my mechanic reckons there's no problems with it at all, he also took them out and reinstalled them just to make sure the shocks are on tight.

some points about the noise

1.squeaking noise

2. it's on and off

3. when noise occurs, right foot on accelerator pedal can feel something.. like a bit of vibration, not very obvious but not ignorable, today's real rainy in sydney and when the noise started, the rain was so big i couldn't hear the noise, but instead i felt the vibration... then i started to realise the noise

done a search and sounds like it could be something's loose

but seems like everything's on pretty tight

or would it be something needs to be lubricated?

checked a few jap sites and seems like that's another possibility

would worn bushes make squeaking noise?

i know it's kind of worn since my steering wheel leans a bit towards the left when driving straight

however, from other threads it seems like worn bushes make a knocking noise?

hicas light only ever came on once, however that was when the noise was the loudest

pwr steering fluid level's ok.. but thanx for ur advise tho FATGTS-R

have to say, only just bought the car last week with hard saved cash and this kind of trouble occuring really depresses me badly

Mr Gts4, did your problem sound simillar to mine? if so then probably have to undo everything on the right and put it back again

anyone else had the same problem? what did you do to fix it?

cheers

you wouldn't really need to take everyhting off, just go over every bolt you see under and tighten it up really tight. on mine it was 2 bolts on the left side that connect like a link between the left and right hubs. there are two bolts on either side. they located near where the bottem control arm connects to the chassis. also buy a can of silcon spray and use that on all your bushs. like control arm, sway bar links, and underneath the car aswell.. worked for me :P

see if that works.

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
