CV (cheval-vapeur) is french horspower dude :D

PS = Pferdestärke (Horse Strength German) which is Metric Horsepower(probably where you got the French bit from). Sometimes referred to as Power Stroke.

1 PS = 0.735kW

1 hp = 0.746kW

Yeah ps is almost exactly equal to bhp. A page of conversions can be found here:

http://www.citroen.co.uk/conversion/c_conv...converter_rates

Stall/torque converters are the fluid couplings that autos use in place of a clutch. Basically, its an internally finned, fluid filled housing attached to the engine with a fan-like impeller attached to the gearbox shaft inside it. As the finned housing turns the movement of the fluid turns the gearbox fan & inturn moves the car.

Changing the design/size/angle of the blades in the converter changes it's 'hook up' (rpm range where the car begins to move significantly) properties. The idea of a 4500 stally is to delay the hook up till later in the rpm range (circa 4500rpm, but not necessarily right on it) where the engine is making plenty of power. Great for allowing big laggy turbs to spool up but not so practical for heading down to the shops due to you engine having to do 4000-5000rpm constantly to keep the car moving.

Ballpark figure for a std stally would be around 1200-1800 car dependant...

Cheers, exactly what i wanted to know...

That Conversion page is good but im still guessing on one thing. My dyno read i had 1100 Lb of Torque, I'm guessing this would be Lb-ft? Converted to Nm its like 811. Thats sounds too high for my 218 rwkw car.

Lb-f to Newtons was 247. I read that big v8s have like 400 - 500 Nm, it just sounds a bit crazy that my 2.5 L on 12psi has more Torque *with 811* than those big fat v8s. Have i converted this right? If not how how do i know my Nm. Thanks,

you have to multiply it by the distance away from the load object... whatever that is... might be the radius of your wheels, but that sounds too low. I've never understood how torque applies to cars... I think its how many apples it can move a metre or something lol...

I'm digressing... basically, the 800Nm is too high, there is a distance in there, hopefully someone else can tell u what that is.

Torque on a dyno means shit, unless it's an engine dyno

The gear your in, diff ratios, rims size amount of rubber, tailshaft length all kinds of stuff

Killowatts/HP/PS is the mesure of energy being produced basically how much chemical potential energy (the air/fuel mix) is being turned into kinetic energy, which in turn gets used to spin the crank etc etc.

Torque is a mesaure of the amount of "twisting" force being applied. Cars have gearboxes and diffs to change the torque output becuase otherwise you would go nowhere fast

It's confusing, they sound like the same thing but there not, and i cant think of a better way to explain it (i'm like that i know what i'm trying to say i just cant do it very well ;) )

    • yeh they are 235/45/17 up front and 255/40/17 in the rears. I still didn't get my answer if i can fit a 18x9 up front. I want to get 4 of this and see if they will fit before committing as they didn't see an 18x8 as an option but there is a 18x9.5 also.   Enkei RS05-RR 18x9 35mm ET 5x114.3 75.0 Bore Matte Gunmetal Wheel
    • This. The R34 handbrake icon DOES come up when the brake fluid level is low. You might be sitting right on that threshhold. I have been down this diagnosis path and this was the solution (and it was pretty much as full as your picture is to begin with).
    • Unfortunately the cavaet to that is that while any scan tool should be able to read the code, the workshop will need a consult plug to OBD socket adapter. You don't have a location on your profile, where are you based?
    • @Haggerty this is your red flag. In MAP based ECU's the Manifold pressure X RPM calculation is how the engine knows it is actually...running/going through ANY load. You are confusing the term 'base map' with your base VE/Fuel table. When most people say 'base map' they mean the stock entire tune shipped with the ECU, hopefully aimed at a specific car/setup to use as a base for beginning to tune your specific car. Haltech has a lot of documentation (or at least they used to, I expect it to be better now). Read it voraciously.
    • I saw you mention this earlier and it raised a red flag, but I couldn't believe it was real. Yes, the vacuum signal should vary. It is the one and only load signal from the engine to the ECU, and it MUST vary. It is either not connected or is badly f**ked up in some way.
