I've tried searching the forums but I can't get a straight answer. I want to run a monster tacho in my R32 GTS-4 RB20DET. I'm told the standard tacho won't hook up to the wires because the computer runs 8 volts and the tacho needs 12 volts. Is this true? I have a wiring diagram and I'm all set to go but i don't want to damage anything. Can anyone help me with this? I'm in Melbourne if anyone cares...

Thanks guys,

George.

Run the 12 volts from your ignition, Earth is ground

The signal wire (usually green) on the autometer goes to the RPM output of your ECU.

There's prolly a white wire that goes to your lights too

I just installed an Autometer (Autoguage) Tacho in my R33 GTS-t and no problems at all.

i had a problem hooking up my tacho to the rb20det ecu, i followed the instructions and hooked all the wires up correctly power, earth and ignition. i had a problem with the ecu tacho wire its self, when i connected the tacho pulse wire to the green rpm signal wire from the tacho itself all that would happen is the tacho would go to 3000rpm and just sit there?? the car is a the auto electrican at the moment getting some other things fixed so i'll get them to look into the problem?

thanks again fellas, interesting feedback. I'll trial fit it to the computer and see if it works, before I drill holes in my car. And I'm not ungrateful for the replies but I still want more replies if possible because clearly there are different views on this.

Thanks again-

George.

    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
    • Probably. I take it that they are also mentioned to be for R34 Skyline? For example.... RDA has that part as RDA7957. I have the dimpled and slotted version of that on my car https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285518478694?srsltid=AfmBOopKxMuAFpsxZJdB1cam4D5RAj1f9yJyOttPZLAwXVNCOiwlhrIy This is DBA's top one piece equivalent https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364246686631?srsltid=AfmBOorbb0XHQgqTvZLgQPhg70nqJtGvdojKnugum3O2LFSr2h-obp8D
