this thread is a really old topic and also probably more suited for a site like nissansilvia or something, but i thought since this site is infinitely better and there are still a few p-platers on this site i will rant here muahahah!!!

Anyways, saturday night, driving home from a mates house at about 1:15 am, pull out onto main road (2 lanes northbound-median strip-2 lanes southbound) and another mate that was with me in his car is driving in the other lane next to me, he was probably at about my left rear quarter. We come up to a roundabout, still 2 lanes, doing 55-60 km/h at the most and we drive through the roundabout, my mate is probably at about my left rear door, anyways drive through the roundabout and on the southbound lanes is a cop car, he slams on the sirens, and drives over the huge arse median strip and flags both us down. Comes up to the window and goes, "can you explain to me what happened back there??" i was confused at this point and just replied with "what??" and he goes "dont play dumb with me, i seen what happened!" and at this point i was dumbfounded. He then says "i just seen you with my own eyes drag racing!" We then argued back and forth for about 5 minutes, before the officer runs off and chases this guy down the sidewalk and slams him up against a fence, and then puts him in the back of the police van. It looked like this poor guy was carrying a bag of potato chips or somethin, so obviously its illegal to carry smiths chips in public these days. After about a 10 minute wait, the other officer walks up to the car and gives me the guys license that they just threw in the van? I tell him that its not mine and then he apologises and gives me back my own license, then they drive off.

Whats the deal here?? i realise that the police have exclusively targeted p-platers for things such as burnouts and racing etc. but come on!! i didnt know it was illegal for two cars to drive on a dual lane road at the posted speed limit in the two seperate lanes given to them?? i also didnt know it was illegal to carry chips in public either. Anyways i put it down to one of the officers just having a bad night and feeling the need to put the beat down on some kids, im just glad the copper didnt pull me out of the car and start bashing me Rodney King style, coz thats all that was going through my mind when the cop was arguing with me. The other officer with him was a good bloke so they may have also been playing the good cop bad cop routine.

It really irks me that some police officers seem to abuse the power given to them :)

The point to this thread?? well none really, just that to all of you that have been in similar situations with police on power trips, i feel your pain!!

    • If you take the top half of the intake off you can unbolt the flap off the shaft and leave the shaft in there blocking the hole. Then you can remove the little vacuum canister off from under the manifold and get a spare vacuum line to run to the ECU. I can take some photos of it later. Probably best to get the vacuum source to the ECU sorted first though. Mine all worked mint with the base map from the GTT an I've pretty much let the closed loop sort the fueling and took 1 degree out of the whole timing map.
    • This IS something you also have to configure in Haltech (or at least I did in the past when going from onboard-to-ECU map sensor and an external MAP sensor in haltech land).
    • I'm hoping it's something as simple as the ECU is looking for an external MAP sensor, but he is trying to use the onboard MAP sensor.
    • You won't need to do that if your happy to learn to tune it yourself. You 100% do not need to do that. It is not part of the learning process. It's not like driving on track and 'finding the limit by stepping over the limit'. You should not ever accidently blow up an engine and you should have setup the ECU's engine protection to save you from yourself while you are learning anyway. Plenty of us have tuned their own cars, myself included. We still come here for advice/guidance/new ideas etc.  What have you been doing so far to learn how to tune?
    • Put the ECU's MAP line in your mouth. Blow as hard as you can. You should be able to see about 10 kPa, maybe 15 kPa positive pressure. Suck on it. You should be able to generate a decent vacuum to about the same level also. Note that this is only ~2 psi either way. If the MAP is reading -5 psi all the time, ignition on, engine running or not, driving around or not, then it is severely f**ked. Also, you SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITHOUT A LOAD REFERENCE. You will break the engine. Badly.
