driving on the hume hwy today got pulled over. Copper asks me to pop the bonnet and defects me on having FMIC and pod filter, (Can't have both), turbosmart boost-tee controller, turbosmart type 2 BOV and the mounting of my number plate. They didn't give me any paper work, put a sticker on my car or fine me. All they said was u might hear from the EPA in a cpl of weeks. They said i can drive the car for now. What happens now? They said the closest EPA is in McLoed and I live in Wodonga(real convenient.) over 3 hrs away. So does this mean everytime a cop wants to be a prik, he defects me and i have to go to EPA and get trivial stuff tested.

There attitude is all wrong. when i got picked up the other day i was in a hurry on my way to a job interview. since i have heard i was unsuccessful with the job interview. might of been cos i was late??? maybe cos a dikless copper who i could snap in an instant had nothin better to do.

Its good to see our tax paying money at work!!!

police really seem to hate imports to the core. But yeah like wat has been said, there are good cops and also a lot of bad ones, which are unfortunately the ones most people edn up dealing with. Also like has been said before, theres not much you can really do but bend the **** over.

You live in Wodonga?? i live in Albury, might have seen ya car around somewhere before

He may or may not hand your details onto the EPA who will then send you a notice in the mail requiring your car for inspection between such and such a date it's up to you to contact them to organise an exact time and date.

If you do have to go for the inspection get rid of the pshhhhh blow off valve and box your pod filter. Your FMIC should be ok I've seen cars pass with them only argument would be that it effects the impact zones at the front of your car but this has nothing to do with the EPA anyway .

IF you want 100% no trouble with the EPA present the car with all the standered gear back on then bring her home and bolt all the aftermarket stuff back up (costly I know).

couple of weeks ago my speedo was in getting fixed and I got done for speeding @ 122kmh.

copper defected my car for having no speedo(even though I was taking it in to get fixed). he gave me a written defect which allowed me to drive for 3 days and I had to get it fixed and verified at a licensed inspection station(pink slip) then I had to take the paper work to the RTA.

lucky for me he didnt do me for my exhaust or look under my bonnet.

From your situation though - if he didnt hand you any defect notice then forget about it. If you hear from the EPA(unlikely) then dispute it as you recieved no documentation for the defect claim that it never happened.

Good luck.

If the EPA does mail you out a letter wanting your car for inspection you can not dispute it or have a leg to stand on I'm sorry to say.

When you receive your letter from the EPA, read it carefully.

There is fine print on the bottom that says if you live more than 40 k's away from the nearest testing station, you don't have to submit to their tests.

Ring them up (on the number provided) and tell them where you live.

nice little tip there

i was actually told that a pod filter is ok to have on cars that do not have any polution gear running into the intake etc ... which should mean that with an oil/air separator and pod things should be fine!

ask an engineer!

i havent heard anything yet. I havent been driving much but i have put some mesh in front of FMIC to stop the attention. In the process of getting an airbox to fabricate over my pod. Neighbour is going to lend me his standard BOV if the EPA make me submit my car. Dont know wat im gonna do bout my boost controller though?

Nice tip on the distance from EPA I never knew that one . I'm pretty sure that if you have a pod it has to be enlosed any which way ,EPA will not pass it any other way.

You'll find it written in the fine print.

I know that they hid it really well in the letter that we got, but it was in there.... first thing i did was check out www.whereis.com.au to check out how many k's we were from Macleod, and we were just within the area. :D

It must be the address that the car is registered to as well.

If you live in the sticks but your car is registered to an address within their range, you're still screwed.

    • +1. Good thing is people wont tailgate you for a while
    • If you have a RB25DET NEO AWD motor, you will need this: https://www.hioctanedirect.com/ASR-RB26-RWD-Street-Comp-6.5L-Sump-Suit-R32/33/34-and-VL It is made for the AWD motor, but makes it fit a RWD setup and gives you a new pickup. Just one thing, the pickup sits quite forward, compared to a conventional RB25DET RWD motor. This may or may not have contributed to my previous AWD -> RWD shitting the bed at the track.
    • My car is also flex tuned. It's worth mentioning it (the LS1 ECU) has a 1D table for E85 addition and just uses the ethanol stoich part as the second point of reference. It also as a 3D timing map for Ethanol adjustment. You would think this isn't enough but it works pretty damn well. That said, I wouldn't want it in turbo application. It's like lifting non-natty, or taking meth. It gets you unrealistic results that break down more things going forward. If people used it to make the same amount of power they do on 98 then it'd be one thing. But people use it, crank it up to eleventy million PSI, it doesn't knock - but it pushes the point of failure to another, more expensive thing to break. Every time I see someone make 280kw on 98 and 350kw on E85 on the same equipment I just cry a bit and really wish they would just stay on 98 in that exact scenario. It's bad for you.
    • This is kind of what I was thinking but the temp sender wire and the two pressure switch wires run through the starter subharnes and I eliminated the two pressure switch wires completely.  @GTSBoy I have a can gauge with unusually bright warnings should the oil pressure fall so the factory light isn't needed. I need to dig out my wiring diagram and see if I can sort this out.
    • It's a valid point. And it is doable with the Nistune. But I'm not inclined to flex it the way Nistune does - certainly not on a Neo ECU. They're already pernickety enough to tune just one one fuel. And of course, I'm not that interested in putting in a Link or similar, on a daily. With the stock ECU, stock looking turbo, etc etc, I still stand a chance of surviving a run-in with the plod. Last time it went over the pits (which was for the transplant, for because of a run-in with the plod), the Nistuned ECU did not even raise an eyebrow. They want to see a stock ECU running the engine, and they are happy to see it do so without the check engine light** on. Never mind that the Nistune is necessary to make the stock ECU work in a different chassis without ABS, TCS, etc. **And they actually provoke the CEL to come on by disconnecting the AFM, to prove that the globe hasn't been pulled!
