slayer
Anyone know a good place (preferably in Perth) to score a replacement dash trim? The section around the gear shift and the bit on the drivers door where the window buttons are is peeling and I would love to replace it. Thanks Conrad Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/5569-dash-trim/ Share on other sites

Gradenko
slayer, I think you'll find this is a problem inherit with all R33 series 1 consoles and its probably the main reason (i hope) why people are painting their dashes. With age and possibly due to sunlight and armourall, the coating turns soft and gets really easy to scratch and peel. Its a flaw Nissan fixed with series II R33s by using a different (harder) coating. My dash is going through the same peeling process, so I've also decided to paint it. Not rice boy red mind you (yes, I'm talking about YOU, G0DF4Th3R), but something really, really dark. I'm trying to source a place to do it for $150 or less atm, otherwise I'll follow EVL R33's DIY instructions. slayer
Gradenko, is the series II dash physically different (eg shape and mounting points) ? If not, I could always try and source a series II dash section. Hmm, I could go ricey and paint it I guess... but something like metallic charcoal finish. Problem will be getting all the old armour all and 303 off the plastic so the paint actually bonds! hmm, thanks for the info Conrad PVA Glue - I ALMOST have my car now!! Its in my driveway, but it has to go back tomorrow to be inspected for compliance... I dont think I will have it registered for the cruise on the 8th Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/5569-dash-trim/#findComment-84496 Share on other sites
Gradenko
I don't have hard facts on series II dashes, but I'd imagine they are the identical in shape and layout. Guest DON91E
S1 is a plastic with a rubbery type covering (what the hell is that? anyone tried taking it off?) S2 has a more harder plastic and its rough, kinda grainy... Its same but where the S1 hazards and stuff are it pops out a but hard to explain but if you saw it you would know wat i mean. I had tried painting it in the my old line and BOTCHed it HARD! then i got "professionals" to do it and they botched it even HARDER!!! THats my experience, DOnnie Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/5569-dash-trim/#findComment-84630 Share on other sites

T0nyGTSt
What about a carbon applique trim? Cheaper than the alternative and quite attractive. T. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/5569-dash-trim/#findComment-84790 Share on other sites

Gradenko
Except, that carbon fibre look-a-like trim is not affordable. I'd rather blow $450 at a casino than buy faux carbon fibre stickers.
