With all the latest Media attention towards restriction on "P" plate drivers and powerful cars, what do you think the answer is to try and help decrease the Road toll.

If answers are kept to the point and dont go off topic, I might try and bring this topic to the attention of Jim LLoyd, and the rest of the Media.

how accurate can that be....?

i couldnt think of a worse idea but i suppose everyone has their opinions....

i was thinking more along the lines of experience : power ratio thing happening....

They categorise cars, all of them....

3 levels....

Normal, Sports, Off-Road or something along those lines...

Everyone can drive normal...

Sports requires so many hours at a drive training course involving sports cars....or in your own car... (also requires normal lvl for 1 year or something like that)

Off-road requires an off-road course....and how to park a 4wd lessons... :P

This is a serious idea...what does everyone think....obviously these are only examples...

something to stop new drivers jumping straight in fast cars.....

License re-testing at 5 year intervals for all drivers.

Instead of people losing their license for a few months for speeding, make them do community service at TAC road trauma centres.

*my opinion*

power restrictions for sure for P platers.

retesting like stated above.

loss of license when on your P's should be for at least 2 years.

N/A and only 4 cylinders for P platers.

No rotaries, turbo's, superchargers, 6 or 8 cylinders unless required for work like a 6 cylinder 4x4.

I don't care if young P platers don't like my opinions.

during my P's I drove my parents Auto Magna... I didn't care, I was happy to be able to drive myself to places.

I'd even go as far as saying only FWD cars for them.

My 2c:

Stop making stupid imaginary Hollywood movies where young people are shown driving hugely powerful cars with the most awesome stunt driver skills... this just brain-washes todays youth into thinking anyone can do it.

What about the old movies like "Bullit", "LeMans" etc where a *real MAN* (Steve McQueen) was shown doing all the top driving and the little kids had a proper man to look up to.

All this does add up... US is trying too hard to appeal to the kids these days and the end result is kids thinking they can do anything if they just try... like those F+F movies.

Driver training is good aswell... but kids aren't gonna fork out for that if it costs too much. It needs to be LAW, paid for out of Little Jonnies pocket himself.

As a P plater in a high power car i think i have the most at stake with this subject.

The problem is the lack of experiance, or moreso, the lack of training. Anyone is at risk behind the wheel of any car, it is just that generally people who have been driving longer have a greater understanding of what a car can do. EDUCATION is the answer, and stricter testing when initially getting a licence. to pass a licence test is a piece of piss, i am scared by how some of my friends drive, i would not have passed them! But of all my friends do you know the car i will not drive in a HUNDAI GETZ!!! the driver of this car is just insane he thinks he is a race car driver, he has gone off the road and into gutters, roundabouts, parks and about everywhere else you can go when a car is out of controll.

My point is that you are less safer in a car like a Getz, there designed for little old ladies who drive 20k's under the limit. there not safe in an accident, they are tin cans on wheels and i think that crash related deaths will increase due to poor suspention, breaks, tires, saftey systems and everything else assosiated with these cheap "safe" shopping trollies. People are not going to slow down because there car is underpowered, i have seen a getz do over 160kph and i was yelling for the car to slow down because you can feel the poor quality engeneering at those speeds. compare that to a well engeneered skyline with suspention, brakes and a quality shell. I know what i would prefer to be in!!

Sounds like someone would fail the psych test...

But really, what sort of people are the kids that choose high powered cars then write them off? They won't be the ones that pass the psych test.

I believe there is a difference between the kid hoon and the enthusiast driver. The kid hoon is the one which puts up all our insurance on Skylines.

I think people need a couple of separate days on a wet skidpan in variety of different cars with close instruction. They also need to experience what a dip or bump does to a car at speed. The kind of dips and bumps that are found all over the country on oridinary roads. Normal roads are not smooth like race tracks.

Need to be able to answer questions such as, "did we understeer or oversteer just then?"

I also agree with the number of passenger proposals; ie one only for p's.

I'm with Rezz. Young people have an image in their head of what's "cool" and what's not.

Cool is being a street racer. Cool is the latest music. Cool is the latest fashion. Cool is the latest mobile phone.

It scares me that my little nephew thinks drifting is "cool" and one day he wants to go drifting on the streets. Playing games like NFS undergroud, GT3 etc... are so shit out of luck with realism. Cause when you hit something, you don't end up 6 foot under.

Staged licences and different coloured P plates to match or even number plates

eg

Stage 1 - Heavily restriced power to weight ratio

Stage 2 - Medium - must include more stringent testing

Stage 3 - Non restricted - Heavy testing, driver evaluation and training

In the end, if peopl want to drive like nut bags, they WILL drive like nut bags. These types of people need to be nipped in the bud before they get behind the wheel.

Exactly. this iw why kids need to be 'shielded' from hi-po cars when they are just learning how to drive. its the easy solution, least cost, most benifit in the eyes of the public.

I strongly disagree to 'power to weight' ratios being used in order to limit what cars P platers(like myself) can and cannot drive. Look at it this way, my father is 50 years old, he drives a Mazda Tribute, he doesnt know what oversteer, understeer, compression lock etc etc mean. He has never driven a high performance car, he has just as much chance as losing it as the 18 year old P plater if they both got into a high performance car. The loophole is that my father IS allowed to drive it and the p plater is not. Real effective law isnt it?? When i get my car (either S15 or r34) i will take a advanced drivers course, i dont care for how much $$$ they charge, if it saves me from damaging my car and/or hurting someone then its all worth it.

i think power restrictions wont work. you can as fast in a 4cylinder car as you can in almost anycar.

My brothers stock 1.6L N/A laser gets to 150kph easily enuff to get someone killed.

If the driver is an idiot, it doesnt matter how many courses he does, and doesnt matter the car, he'll find a way to kill himself.

I really beleive theres isnt a solution, as some has said before "as long as theres cars, people will continue to die"

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
