g'day SAUers,

well, as the title says i'm moving to QLD...

i'm coming from melbourne leaving on the 17th, stopping at byron bay, then coming up to live in brisvegas :)

I'm moving for study, and will be attending UQ (St Lucia campus) as mentioned in this thread:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=57794

Anyone go to UQ?

Anyone recommend a mechanic in or around brisbane city?

Anyone recommend some nice restraunts/places to go in or around the city?

Will be keen to come to any SAU meetups for the QLD arm of the SAU club, or if there is nearby legal drags i am keen to take my car sometime soon...

So look out for a dark blue R32 GTSt with SAU stickers on the rear qurter window :P:)

cheers,

Warren.

lots of mechanics around mate. may i suggest Richard at All Star Tuning in Zillmere He's a top bloke and will look after you.

go to southbank things to see and restraunts!

drags @ willowbank raceway, cunningham highway bout 1/2 hour from city.

T&T's every other wed and sat night.

and above all

Welcome to QLD !!!!

The Valley just east of the city has a few restraunts, pubs and clubs.. Southbank also as mentioned as a couple of places and cinemas. But you'll find overall its nothing like melbourne when it comes to that and there is much less variety and quality restraunts. But what you don't get in that, with everything else you get much better!

I used to live opposite UQ at West End.. its a nice area all round there.. Good for a jog, or ride along the river at any time.

You'll be going to the Regatta a bit, that is just a City Cat stop or two away .

Willowbank is on wednesday and Saturday nights. Shits over Calder, and from what I remember about $20 I think (not $50 for like 2 runs!). It's about an hour out from brisbane, about 20 mins from Ipswich.

Check out Yatala Pies - they are great.. um, Byron has a nice Kebab place too (p.s. they're all "Kebabs" up here.. "souvlakis" are only for those in mexico)..

One night if you're on the goldcoast, check out BWCP - that's one crazy place during summer. Last night there must have been 200+ import/hotted up/well think I'm good(!) cars all in one carpark. It is insane... nothing like melbourne there. It's like chapel in a carpark...

Anyhow, its a great place - you'll never look back! Enjoy :)

congratulations. Are you going to be living on campus or are you share housing it? I'm guessing you have been up here before (interview) and sort of have a general idea of what we are about. I've been thinking about a comparative locality guide for you.

Melbourne has Acland st. Brisbane has Boundary st West End.

Melbourne has Southgate. We have riverside.

Melbourne has Chapel St. We have Brunswick st (the valley)

Melbourne has Burke st. We have Queen St.

Melbourne has Albert Pk. We have Botanical Gardens.

Those imo are pretty similar places. We do however have a few places (as does melbourne) that are unique such as, Mt Cootha. A view from the mountains to the sea just 15 minutes from the CBD. Or the bogan version, Mt Gravatt. Same deal. Kangaroo point Cliffs. Great for a bbq or rock climbing. Park Rd with the mini eiffel tower. Great cafes and restaurants. Southbank Beach. Which you should never swim in but its a nice idea. (no you can swim, just don't think about it) In your time here you will see all of that its not hard to do. But most of all just remember that if its cold in the morning, its probably still going to be cold the rest of the day. We generally only have one season a day. :) oh and leave those silly hook turns behind. :P

Check out Yatala Pies - they are great.. um, Byron has a nice Kebab place too (p.s. they're all "Kebabs" up here.. "souvlakis" are only for those in mexico)..

I think everyone that comes to QLD has to try a yatala pie at least once. Although I have to admit, they are better on a cold rainy day than a day like today that is like 35 degrees :S

As for the car scene in Brisbane/Gold Coast, the BWCP is certainly the place to be, except it's going to be closed soon.

Legal drags are held at willowbank and theres also a drift day on at Queensland Raceway next weekend. Prepare to die from the heat but, it gets scorching out there.

Mechanics, I suggest you go here here and here. :P

Other than that, enjoy your stay. If you want to see the Brisbane River closely, the citycats are a good idea :)

    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
