Don't forget the cost to dyno tune.

I speak completely from what I've heard - not exp. I haven't even got my 25T yet (13 days!!).

But it controls the sensors on your car and via that you can run lean (fuel economy) or rich (performance).

I have a Q on this topic.. does the Apexi Power FC do everything the SAFC does + more?

Yes PFC does more.

Lean=Performance (but too much is dangerous)

Rich=No performance and smoke outta the exaust.

This is what your car will do with high boost and no computer.

This is deffinetly the next upgrade. Well worth the money, you can still use it with an after market turbo because you can also change injector sizes on it.

With about 13 pounds of boost you will have a big flat spot at about 5000 all the way up to bout 6500, this is when its running rich, s-afc fixes this.

I can only speak for my car... But before the manual and the S-AFC it cranked out 230rwkw's with a huge flat spot at 4500rpm and higher... Also the bosst used to do really weired things around the 5500rpm mark and drop away from there...

So i have had the manual fitted and a twin plate clutch... My computer was sent away to be chipped for the new 300zx AFM (as the original one died and this was the only possible conversion)... When it came back the car ran much better but was very rich... Plus the power level was a little low... So i bought a S-AFC and we got it on the dyno the other day and found it got to 327rwkw but then the clutch started slipping so its back in the workshop getting a twin plate fitted ATM... Once this is done we will dyno it again....

So for me i have spent thousands on the engine....

I was getting very average performnance and the S-AFC was able to solve all the problems... Cause if you got the right parts but their not tuned right then you may as well have sock bits....

It's a product from APEXi that alters the car's air/fuel ratio. It tricks the car into believing it's got more or less air to mix with the fuel.

thats close to a 100rwkw gain with an SAFC, rechipped ecu, manual conversion and a twin plate clutch?

Franks... what i was trying to say was i needed the S-AFC to make the whole package come together.... I have spend thousands on cams, turbo, honing, list goes on... injectors, fuel rail and pump.... BLAH BLAH BLAH

Finally with the AFM ratio's being controled i can get that power cause before it used to drop off after 4000rpm and then there was nothing.... So now it boosts and gains all the way to 7500rpm and smooth as a whissle too...

ahh ok. from wot you said it sounded as though the SAFC did all that on its own! :P now that you've cleared that up its quite obvious you have a *monster* !!!

understood. i'm getting my SAFC soon. im not expecting that much from it though. i dont think much power gains (although certainly alot has been experienced from members of this forum) can be made from just fuel trimming....

I gained about 15kw and around 60Nm with my S-AFC tune. But even if I didn't get the extra power I would still appreciate the better fuel economy and power delivery. There used to be a big flat spot in my power curve from around 4000-6000rpm, so you can imagine how quickly I needed to react to change gears when flooring it as the thing just took off in the last 1000 revs up till redline. All I can say is thank god for rev limiters.

If you can afford a Power FC I would rather go with that, but if you can find a cheap S-AFC it is definitely a worthwhile investment to use while you save up for the Power FC. Anyone clued up on electronics can install it themselves (my advice - melt a portion of the ECU wire shielding and splice the new loom in directly rather than cutting the old wires and making new joins) and it'll cost about $140 to tune from a place like Hills Motorsport.

The S-AFC will also help prevent stalling if you have an atmo bov, so it also acts as a safety (and anti-embarrassment) feature in that regard.

Great guy and excellent prices. He is highflowing my turbo at the moment so the next step for me will be AFC of PowerFC. Oh thats if you live in Melbourne

In my humble opinion an aftermarket ecu that can be tuned on a dyno is one of the most important mods you can do... it allows good tuner to make the most of your other mods... otherwise your just burning wasted cash and fuel... and the SAFC also displays revs, knock, throttle, air flow etc while you drive and has a peak hold function...

and it looks all cool and sh!t...:spank:

    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
