common problem on the R33's, its a motor/actuator on the heaterbox, you need to pull the whole dash out to get to it, part is about $200 from Nissan. 2-4hours labour ...

You'll find if you flick through the climate control modes it will make the same clicking noise... usually when you turn off the feet vent.

yeah mine does same, i figured it was a jammed vent so i haven't bothered having it looked at. It only does it on startup and occassionally when ac on so it doesn't annoy me too much, if it starts smoking up or doing it too often i'll have it lkooked at.

my r32 was doing the same, it was what ferni said, i went to a import wrecker and bought one for $100 just the motor its connected to a cable, took about 15 mins to change on a 32 but dont know on a 33, but i could get to it from where the drivers feet are, no dash taken out just needed a stubby screwdriver, hope this helps

Troy: I tried fixing mine but couldn't. the cog that has lost its tooth is plastic and looked/felt like it was moulded to the peice underneath, so i couldn't spin it around.... does that sound right? or didn't i disect far enough?

Its been a couple of years since i tokk one aort but i think you take the motor out then spin the gear 180 degrees...it has a one way lock in on the top so you gotta go 180 around

the black thing on top of the heater box in that pick above his foot, about the size of a deck of cards (give or take)...

Troy: Interesting i tried pulling and prying at mine because i figured only 1/4 of the cog is actually in use so i should be able to turn it around but couldn't... i only tried for 5mins or so, so maybe i didn't ry hard enough... regardless i've orded a new one from nissan, waiting for it to come in.

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
