:bs!:

Lol - i know you said u didnt "wish to sound pedantic" - but it does to me... a bit too easily annoyed maybe? Not really that big a deal in my book Burns - its your car so call it what you like :)  If I pulled up alongside a 'van goon' at the lights Id probably say whatever I could make up just for a laugh... "Its the new 2005 R35 GTR wagon with 400rwkW from factory"...  Its sort of like someone having a go at the accuracy of your avatar... "Fat Datsun Wagon"... well TECHNICALLY, having spent ages restoring a genuine old Datsun wagon, I am a bit annoyed at people comparing a modern day Nissan..... LOL - sorry couldnt resist :)

:)

But yeah - on the same topic though of accuracy of comparison... I've been trying to work out what the comparable 'drive-line' for my series 2 would be - seeings i dont think there was a 4WD version of the R34 GTT (could be wrong), I cant really say "R34 GTT engine with a ???? drive-line"...

Anyone know what the Series 2 driveline has also been used in??

ok guys ..find someone on this forum who enjoys having his GTR confused with GTS-T...and you will know how i feel

driveline.. to me has always included engine and gearbox..ie the drive

and yes there is ENR34 4wd NEO which is most likely the same DRIVELINE as s2 stagea

and technically... having owned a 93 60th aniversary edition r32 skyline ..nissan claim the D.A.T. sun companys first car in 1933 as there heritage ...good enough for nissan ..good enough for me...we all drive datsuns ;)

[insert not-so-aggressive tone here - just trying to comprehend your distinction of perception here... plus I love a good debate]

A modern day Nissan is still further removed from a Datsun than a RS4 Stagea's driveline is from a GTR's - so yeah just as your interpretation of the differnce can be rationlised to make you comfortable with calling your Stagea a Datsun (despite the offence it may cause Dtason historians and purists), we are justified to rationalise our atessa system to be like a GTR's... get over it - as you said - its pedantic. And the comparison to a GTR owner being compared to a GTST isnt the same coz Burns didnt say the WHOLE car was like a GTR - just the driveline which (apart from the gearbox) is very similar.

And you are incorrect to include the engine in your definition of a driveline... here's a cut and past of the dictionary definition:

drive_line

noun

drive_line, drive_line_system

: mechanism that transmits power from the engine to the driving wheels of a motor vehicle

So yeah - its components AFTER the engine and through to the wheels...

But regardless - Ill describe/compare MY car however I see fit

Anyways - nice work on nabbing a 260RS ... keen as mustard on one of those babies down the road sometime... prob once the M35 Autech versions have a few years and kms on them :) mmmmm

END OF :flamed:

:)

like i said at first the 4wd attessa system doesn`t make it a gtr driveline..just like it dosen`t make the gtir pulsar or the cefiro that uses the system a gtr driveline..2.5stagea has more in common with gts4 but i understand that just dosen`t sound as cool as gtr..

"But regardless - Ill describe/compare MY car however I see fit.".

exactly ...hence the fat datsun thing

and thanks for the dictionary definition of driveline..a bit pedantic but thanks

I think it has more to do with common knowledge than correctness. How many Joe Bloggs out there know what a GTs4 is? When you say "Skyline" to the majority of this country's Holden and Ford patsies they remember getting their arses kicked in the early 90's. They all think "Skyline = GTR = 4wd turbo". Thus it's easier to get the message across (for me) to say "Think of a Skyline GTR wagon, put in an auto transmission, slightly smaller engine and one less turbo. Oh, and make it ugly."

Now we all KNOW this is even less correct than saying "GTsT engine with a driveline like the GTR", but when I have to explain exactly what the GTsT is first, it makes it even worse... so sorry for offending but I'm just lazy.

my problem if you can call it that is the holden /ford tossers that come up to me and say ..is that one of those GTR wagons ..me thinking they are half informed says" yes it is" only to hear back "yeah there about 25 grand down at such and such motors arn`t they" well no there not ...blah blah ..

i`m over it ,its boring... starting to prefer the completetly uniformed volvo/magna thing

as the guy with the dictionary has pointed out you will need to change ,gearbox ,tailshaft ,diff, axles (not engine) to have a GTR driveline

and i was hoping that the informed users of this forum would not continue the incorrect lines used by the used car saleman at such and such motors and elsewhere to sell gts4 wagons...not that theres anything wrong with them..but apart from the body shape there nothing like my car

Someone told me the auto box in the series 1 stag is the same as in the big nissan four wheel drives - so should we tell people the stag is a 'mini-patrol'? :)

I just tell people that it is like a skyline station wagon - 2.5 single turbo and auto box, oh and 4WD - they make up their own mind what ever else the car may be like underneath, ontop, inside, outside or whatever

I've been thinking about this lately, trying to be more correct, but then i realised i wasn't wrong. If someone asks me what my car is, i've always said It's an AWD Wagon with a skyline engine. never really occured to me to say anything about GTR because it doesn't carry that badge.

... never really occured to me to say anything about GTR because it doesn't carry that badge.

Good point - and neither does the 260RS... Im sure a good number of GTR owners would laugh at any comparison between a GTR and a Stagea 260RS - so as I say - people can describe their car however it fits for them... there'll always be people 'a bit annoyed' but really who cares.

260rs does have a gtr driveline and its the only stagea that can claim it has

so enjoy your gts 4 .wagon ... that does not

my point in the first place

:thankyou:

ps :also own a couple of of gtr`s atm and don`t find the comparison laughable at all

....just a little bemused at the 2.5 auto comparison

And hence back to MY original point - anyone is free to compare what they like as loosely as they like to help explain their car as best they see how. You wanna call your Stagea a GTR - go for it (but technically it aint considering all the differences... styling, weight, suspension, cornering, performance - hence why some GTR owners might laugh at your comparison - not you of course coz you're the topic of discussion lol). But If I want to make comparisons to a GTR - I'll do so, just as you can - its all a perception of righteousness on your behalf chump - lost all credibility in my book... a new Stag owner posts a lighhearted first couple of encounters in his Stag and you go getting all "Ooo Im a genuine GTR Stag owner and I just hate joo noobs taking away from my coolnees coz Im so leet"... nice way to welcome a new Stagea owner... you anti-community stuck-up f00l... back in your box.

:P

your just a dreamer

go find some Datto club and ask them... that all u got?? Tool. It was a euphemism to exemplify how the accuracy in car comparisons is applied lightly by yourself when it suits you - but you have to take someone elses application of loose comparison to task on some holier than thou mission.

Get over yourself. Can just picture you having a tanty on the floor banging your fists and feet crying "Its NOT a GTR driveline Its NOT a GTR driveline ITS NOT boo hoo"

    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
