Odometer Intermantly working

My odometer and trip meter work when my car is cold but stops working when the car warms up...

i was just wondering if anyone had any idea why this would be and how i could go about fixing it

I used to have the same problem back in winter but now it just doesnt work at all. :drooling:

One mechanic also suggested that it could be a fine crack in a solder on the back of the cluster. It expands and contracts with different temperatures and this is why it only works sometimes :confused:

Apparantly this happens because they have been wound back by the dealer.

ok cool, now that you've said that any idea on how to get the dash apart and the speedo out?

Sorry mate never done it but I watched a bloke do it once.

Carefully remove the plastic face that goes around your instrument cluster / stereo / ash tray area. It pops out but it looks very fragile so be carefull.

I think there is some screws that secure the gauge cluster. undo those and remove the entire cluster. Once the cluster has been removed you can access the circuit tape behind it.

Undo clips on clear plastic front of cluster to access the front of the gauges(needles, screws etc...)

Do the opposite to re-install.

You should run a search on the forum for more info aswell....

for oil changes and tax... i use my car for work... plus if i know how many k's i get to a take ill be less likely to fang around in it... errr well thats what im hoping

Had same problem with one of my dashes, took it out and went to Miranda Instruments (Sydney) and they repair and bench test it, cost about $100. The fine tracks or solder joints on the back break, and basically they go thru and fix any bad joints or tracks.

Is it an R33 or R32.

R32 is cable driven.

R33 is electric.

If its electric probally a dry solder joint or cracked tracking on the back of the cluster.

If its mechanical i would say the plastic teeth are crapped and will need repair by instrument specialist.

its an r33, so it can mostly be repaired.

so does any one know of someone that would repair them on the sunshine coast or brisbane / gold coast areas?
