Consult Interfact not working

PC to ECU Interface

I just bought Blazt consult interface. But I can't get it to work!!!

My laptop doesn't have a COM port so I'm using a USB to Serial bridge they sell along with the cable.

I'm using DataScan 1.4.

I've checked the continuity of the consult port to the ecu they are all working.

I've set the software to the port i'm using.

I plug it in to the car, start the engine and click on CONNECT on the software. Nothing happens.

But.... if i connect and then turn on the engine, the progress bar at teh bottom gos up a knotch or two. IF I wait, nothing happens further. I turn it off and then on, it goes up a bit more. I did it till it gets full and then it restarts again. Tried teh free conzult as well. Didn't work. Need help here. Please!!!

Sometimes the brand of USB adaptor can effect the interface.

Usually the more expensive ones are better. Also, have you tried looking at this site:

I got the adaptor they were selling and said was working with their system. IT's $35 a piece. Maybe I should try on a laptop with a COM port eh?

i guess this is pretty basic, but are u using the right port? they typically are com3/com4 for usb serial thingys.

so when u click connect u dont even get ecu serial number? can u perform any active tests (easiest one is shutting off a cylinder)

hey i presume that the interface will only work with an rs232 com port. I dont know if using a usb to serial adaptor will work .. also all usb to serial adaptors wernt all created equaly, you may just need a different brand one .. Is that datascan a new version ? i think i have 1.3

I am using the right COM port. It's COM4 for my case with the USB/Serial Bridge.

No, I can't get the ecu serial number. No active tests or anything. Just doesn't connect.

maybe the usb baud rate, try slow it down

mick u should have received new version of datascan in email (im hoping u didnt rip it off someone else...)

usb/serial converters do work (ive got one) - try it with something else though, like serial mouse

give us more info on the car ur trying it on, whether uve tried other cars, whether uve tried other software (scantech nissan is a good freeware one, http://www.geocities.com/obdscantech2000/S...nTechNissan.zip)

i Have the PLMS conzult on a rb20det r32 and i couldnt get it working either it is odd sends data but desnt respond from ECU tried wirring it straight to it didnt work either ?,

urs is r32 RB20DET ?

there are alot of other scantools out there but from what i know these are the only ones that will work with a skyline

datascan is probably best overall. best free ones are scantech nissan, conzult free, and calumsult (http://web.utk.edu/~cjohns32/calumsult/cal...umsult_full.zip)

as for why i asked what car/engine/ecu etc is that consult is not supported on early (89-90) rb20 skylines. consult only came out in 90/91 so the earlier cars dont have it. also no aftermarket ecu has it either.

checked that ur consult ports are wired up to ur ecu correctly?

i have the calumsult software but it didnt work for me

Same problem with mine. Tried the free conzult. No go.

They said they'll change the interface with the tested ones for R32 RB20DET's so I'll give it a go. Just a problem with having to send it over 5000 miles.

before u send it back u can always try putting a 10k resistor between TX and gnd wires on the plug (eg on back of plug) however this only tends to help when u have garbage received, not so much when it doesnt connect at all

how do you know when you're receiving garbage or nothing at all? I was going to ask someone here to build an interface for me but couldn't find the IC's. Just my luck eh?
