you may need one for the pod filter... the rest sounds ok cept the turbo timer.

a quick question, why do you need it?

do you thrash the living crap out of your car for the last few minutes of your way home?

They should be illegal anyway, your not spose to leave your car running without you within 3 or 5meters from it or something similar to that.

simple.......it came with the car :(

another quick question.....the car has no cat.....now i've heard off a few people that its illegal NOT to have one, and that you can get upto a 10k fine!! :D

now the weird thing is that the car has passed the pits 3 times, and they didnt say anything about it

you rekon if I went back for the permits that they'd pick it up and that they would sticker the car until the cat is sorted?

hmmm

Ive been told the turbo timer illegality is about having something wired into your ignition. As far as boost controllers go, apparently they arent illegal but your not meant to have it within reach of the driver. eg: you have to stop the car to change the boost because its in the glove box or something.

As for cat converters, its highly illegal not to have one, and the fine can be as high as 10k. Doesnt seem to stop alot of people because the sheer difference it makes not having one is incredible.

I heard you get absolutely raped if you get caught wihout a cat. I'd get one if I were you. I also heard the fine is in the order of $10k cos your emissions would be very bad w/o a cat.

cats just require removing part of the pipe that used to have the cat there, inserting the cat in, then rewelding

they can cost up to a fair amount, depending if you want a high flow one or not

the guys at the pits may not have done an emissions test (and you were VERY lucky for not being caught as I've heard too that it's up to a 10k fine for not having one)

u and 25gtt should go and buy lotto tickets!!

radium: why does he need what? the turbo timer???

don't u have one?? they are in my opinion EXTREMELY necessary

you don't have to have booted it the last leg of your journey...if you'd have given it a bit earlier the turbo will retain it's heat fairly well since it's is generating heat

if I cane it anywhere on my journey, I always set the timer higher

...sorry if this isn't what you were referring to, and that you had to be bored shitless reading this! haha

I'm bored :(

hahah

Im bored aswell :D

just say if I was to be pulled over, couldnt I use it against them?

Just say if I were to argue that it had passed the pits 3 times and that nothing was said. My old man reckons leave it and just fight em if it does happen......hmmm

As for the other stuff....I should get off my arse and get some permits :(

my thughts precisely timmay

nah boosted, you can't say that unless you had very recently been to the pits (I think they give u a kind of immunity period after pits where you can't get touched...pretty much)

but personally I don't think you should leave it off, as they can very easily prove you wrong, and if you take them to court over it, then they're likely to give you the full fine ;)

they can very easily tell if u don't have a cat (emissions test and/or flame marks on bumper) and then 10k later you;'d wished you'd put the cat on :) or left it on, whichever way round it is :)

yeh very true

guess I'll have to do it some time

im just wonderin why the exhaust didnt have a cat in it to start with, because i thought the N1 exhausts had different sections, like cat back, front pipes etc

i just went and had a look and its just one full piece, theres no weld marks or anything for where the cat should be

wierd :)

whats this no permits for exzorsts??? I Have 1! along with airfilter permit.

My friend with a the evo 6 got permits for Xenon head lights, factory evo bonnet vents, he's brembo brakes, zorst, airfilter, pedals, guages, everything. every mod he has he's got a permit for. probably good coz cops have defected him twice b4, so he's practicaly bulletproof.

I just got my permits when i got defected, payed like i think 25 dollars, or close to that.

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
