Hello everyone! Just got my first skyline (r32 gtst) and I am so happy about it. Got to admit I don't really know much about cars  and its internal workings though so a few questions regarding the car

1. Sometimes the HICAS light just come on/flickers on and off the seller said his mechanic say there's nothing wrong with the car but I just wanted to make sure whether I had turned on some button in the car or something. By the way, what is HICAS?

2. How many immobilisers are there in my car? Is there a procedure to check whether they exist in the car?

3. What do you use to keep the windscreen from misting up during cold nights or driving through fog?

4. Is there supposed to be an official skyline australia club that i can sign up for or something? Read of some people even having a membership card but I just couldn't find any information on this website.

Got a couple more questions in my head but just couldn't remember them. This will have to do for now. Thanks for any inputs!

Hey I see your from Sydney, so you can have a read here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=44115

as for the HICAS problem.. I think if you have an aftermarket steeringwheel fitted this can cause it ;)

ps.. wheres the pics :P

edit

HIcas is - High Capacity Actively-Controled Steering ( i think lol)

1: do diagnostics (you will find in the diy/faq area

2: what alarm do you have ?

3: a combitation of windscreen wipers and dimister should solve it :P

4: Become a Registered NSW Mamber for club events (the link slim posted)

....By the way, what is HICAS?

HICAS is a 4 wheel steer controller, & the unit can be found in your boot. It normally comes into to play when you reach 80km/h.

How many immobilisers are there in my car? Is there a procedure to check whether they exist in the car?

It depends on your brand, good ones normally have at least 3point or more (eg. Viper, Cheetah). Search the net if you know which model/ brand, otherwise go to a car alarm specialist & ask.

This link is for membership to Skylines Australia (NSW).

And I would always use the aircon for demisting the windscreen. It's good to run your aircon once a week anyway. Keeps it running well.

If the powersteering fluid level is low it will cause the HICAS light to come on occasionally, as the rear steering feeds of the same reservoir as the front in R32's.

It also could just be a electrical connection problem...

.

Yeah it came with an aftermkt steering wheel, guess i'll have to trust the seller about what he syas then.

The alarm is a Rhino GTS. The website states that there's a 2 point engine immobiliser. Read somewhere else that insurance companies need at least a 3 point one if not a theft claim will not be valid? If thats the case I might need to change it pity though it was only installed in feb this yr.

Combo of wipers and demisters and the air con towards the windscreen way? Was thinking of any products that might prevent the window of misting up in the first place. Didn't really want to spit on my beloved skyline's windscreens the way divers spit on their face goggles before they go into the water. :spew:

Sending in the application form tomorrow! :wavey:

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
