Hi Everyone,

Well I have finally found myself a nice , relatively unmolested ECR 33 GTS-T. The only mod done to the car has been to fit a 3" exhaust system, the rest of the car is completely stock as it left the factory back in 1997.

So, next step, can someone recommend an insurance company?

Currently i'm with RACV who won't insure the car, i've got a rating 2 and am 34 years old.

I've called Shanons and the guy I spoke to said for relatively new high performance imports they aren't really competative (suggested at least $1800) and kindly mentioned I should try Unique Car Insurance and Torque Car Insurance.

Any comments, suggestions or additions welcome!

Thanks,

Mike

Im with Just car and i have to say im exceptionally impressed with the insurance.. i had someone run into the back of my car and gave me false details. accident wasn’t my fault and the car was fixed 100% by my choice of repairer (thanx troy)... I have heard a few problems with them but i can say personally they did everything they could and were exceptionally helpful...

Edit: forgot to mention im fully insured with Just cars

Thanks for the replies so far! I checked out Shannons first, but the guy straight out told me that for something like a Skyline Turbo they aren't competative, said that I would be looking at around $1800, then quiety said I should try Unique Car Insurance and Torque Car Insurace.

When I suggested I was going to speak to JustCar, he told me he wouldn't recommend them because of their high excess's and hidden clauses. hmmm

So, I rang Torque, number rang out...

Justcar says $1,188 with an excess of $1150.

Famous Classic Car Insurance says $1100 and an excess of $1000, any mods fine as long as they are legal.

Unique says $1411 and an excess of $750.

I got Famous from the link Bec sent me (thanx) and it says they come highly recommended. The guy I spoke to says they are the largest insurer of Skylines in Australia, could be b/s, dunno.

As Unique work out to be the most expensive i've ruled them out. So i've just finished downloading the policy details for JustCar and Famous to try to see who offers the better deal for my money.

I know JustCar are popular, and they advertise like crazy, but the thing the Shannons guy said kinda makes me worried a little..

Mike

ps. I pick the car up on Friday so I have to work this out!!

    • I was 99% sure the standard one is long enough to get there, you might just have to change the throttle orientation. If not, I remember someone having used an r31 cable instead, but that is probably harder to find than r33 by now...
    • HELP   Hey all, Is there an accelerator cable from another Nissan that can be used on the R33 GTST RB25DET with a Greddy forward facing plenum?  Thanks in advance  Rob
    • Or do we think it was installed to give 1 bar of boost max, all day, everyday?
    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
