dodgy bonnet latch

My bonnet latch works from inside the car but is really dodgy.

To open the bonnet the lever needs to be pulled so hard the whole dash moves and im worried that sooner or later the cables going to snap...

Anyone encounted this before? howed you fix it?

i thought just wd 40 on the latch but wasnt sure if it would be the latch itself or the friction on the whole cable or at the lever end inside the car.. ill try wd40 a little later.
