Hey all

my R32 rb20det has been backfiring during gear shifts, not huge backfires just a small pop just as i take my foot off the throttle, i have recently had probs with bov's (when i bought my R32 it had 2 bov's, the stock one and a second HKS mounted near Airbox) i had busted the plastic nipple where the hose joins (this bov is pretty old, i think the whole setup is factory but have only seen one other R32 with same setup, possibly a factory extra?) i replaced the pipe that had the bov on with one that didnt leaving only the stock bov but still had same prob, i ended up repairing the HKS bov and put it back on the car but prob is still there and gettong more frequint.

any suggestions on how to fix prob or if the 2nd bov was a factory extra would be great

the hks one would have been fitted after....you should remove them both and get a new bov for the factory position, they arent expensive these days.

stock bovs arent much chop, and neither are the early hks ones, and running two bovs is a silly thing to do on an rb20, no need for it.

popping is due to richness, which if you have air leaking from one of the bovs it wont adj fuel to match the air loss. atmospheric bovs cause it to backfire, but if its only just started, id say you have a problem.

cheers

Linton

is your car auto by any chance?

the auto R32gtst's have this weird thing on the pipe that comes from the intercooler that joins up with the crossover pipe, at about the level of the airbox...

its like a little pipe that is blocked off with a rubber thing around it (bad description, i know...)

don't know why its there but it is on the auto's and the ex-owner may have used it to mount a bov

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
    • Yes sir am asking is there possible way from aem tuner from wiring pins
    • Have you checked cam to crank timing and confirmed balancer marks are correct?
