Hmm how are you setting the timing, using an adaptor between the plug and coil, or using the wire of the amplifier?

Only check timing when car is hot.

Apart from that can't help you sorry.

Try changing timing belt if it hasn't been done, may have tom play or slack in it

Do the timing from the number 1 cylinder lead. The loop at the back of the engine can be abit funny, you need to play with the position of the lead to get an accurate reading.

What has probably happened is you got a false reading from the lead (normally looks like the timing is advanced) and adjusted accordingly thinking that it was correct. Try moving the light lead around the loop wire again or do it from cylinder 1.

Yep thats what i would do,

Apparently not that many timing lights will read low level outputs (ie the amp loop) and ive tried 2 with bad results. took it to the shop and they did it in one minute...hehe

He said some of the cheapies work even the Kmart on in the auto section :)
