Guys,

The last I heard of this rule, it was coming in next year and would affect Red P Plate holders. Can anyone tell me where this rule stands at the moment? Still comin in?

I think... if you already have your p's yoru safe you can do whatever the **** you want as the rule wasnt in when you got your licence.

it only applies for new people who get their p's

haha phewf im on my greens and im about to lay 8grand down on engine mods ;)

Good luck, just remember dont get your licence removed.

Oh and good luck to people trying to book a rta to do a Ps test ;)

Hmm, I still really don't think limiting power is going to fix much problems.

personally I prefer harsher punishment.

I just had an example last night getting home from work, going 90 in james russe when a P plated nissan pulsar was zooming in and out of traffic as around 140. and a pulsar will be within any restrictions they plan to impose.

how are they going to police this

"P1 and P2 licence holders will be banned from driving turbo-charged, super-charged vehicles (diesel vehicles excepted), eight-cylinder vehicles and those with engine performance modifications."

how is Mr. Policeman going to know if my excel has extractors or not just by me driving past?

lol

its more a deterent to people thinking about buying a tubo or v8 car etc.

like how many of the victorian guys under 21 (on p-plates) driving 33's and 34's have copped the $107 fine for being over the power to weight limit

....not many

there are to many variations in cars for the police to be able to properly patrol it.. they might at first, but they will get sick of just looking out for cars over the limit as well as catching people for speeding.....

there are heaps of turbo, supercharged, and v8 cars that arnt allowed to drive

and what about skylines, your average cop couldnt tell if it is turbo or non-turbo just by looking at the outside

i'd be very interested to see how well inforced this is

-Ruffels

If they wanted to be pedantic, an exhaust change is an engine performance modication (yes, it changes it slightly), so they pull you over for that, then look under the bonnet... that shiny exhaust may undo some people.

... and don't think for a second that a cop doesn't know what to look for. All they need is an afternoon with the mechanics and they'll be set.

Love it or hate it, it's the best compromise there is and it's here to stay. I know, no matter what d|ckheads will always drive like d|ckheads. Either in a 1000000000hp GTR, to a Abrahams M1 tank (ok gone too far....), to a Honda City, they will always be dangerous. But fact remains that they're more of a danger to the public in a GTR than in a Honda City.

The worst outcome for future generations getting their P plates is the gov't RAISING the age to get your P plates. Just thank God they never did that. And who cares what you drive. Just be happy your driving. It beats the train and bus! I drove mom and dad's car until a year AFTER I got off my P plates. Does the car you drive really mean so much to your status among your peers?

i hate the media. 'Victory' ?!?!?! was it a war? for gods sake. there have been less people dying this way than there used to be. you can still die in a barina. when will they get this? This is an issue that is here to stay, wheter people like it or not. it will happen.

I dont know if any of you have been watching the news but the NSW communist government has decided to implement a ban on p plate drivers both P1 and P2 on have what they call cars with souped up engines. Now heres the good part our beloved skylines fall smack bang into this catagory.

Does anyone have an opinion on this or is it just me who is f#@ken chuffed at the idea that Bob Carr and Mr Micheal Costa think they have the right to restrict my quality of life or the car I choose to drive.

I mean the ammount of legislation these f@%kers have put into place already its so ludicrous. I tell you the system is stuffed and we need a change.

If anyone would like to read on this here is a link

Your comments on this issue would be much appriciated.

i totally agree,, its F**ked up

i've been working extremely hard for the past year in order to have enough money to purchase my dream car and when i finally bought one 1 month ago,,now they say i can't drive it?!!???

Was there a list of the baned cars? i only see a ban on V8s and up..according to that link

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National...7910274905.html

im 32 and live in bris, so im not to worried:)

Ickis

GL all you P platers, stage a revolt and drive your cars into Bob Carr front yard!!!

Here we go. Please make up your mind who you are upset with.

Is it the Communists (haven't seen any legislation by them of late), the Labour Party & Bob Carr or Peter Costello (He was a Lib last time I looked - I think you mean Costa or whatever his name is).

Mate, I feel for your situation but don't go getting into the party political bullshit because it doesn't help.

If you think the ultra conservatives that we have in Canberra would do different I would like to hear your reasoning.

With the aging population, they have reacted to the death toll being over-represented by P Platers. It is that simple.

El Bee

seems to be a favourite with goverments all around the country now

seen on the news tonight that the clowns over here are thinking about having some sort of tracking device fitted to what they call trouble cars eg anyone who has a car faster than theres to keep tabs on your speed and where you are

is that true

well then in that case YAY!!!

I thought they were taking the cars from everyone ... and i love my car i spend more time with it than i do my gf (and she really p@#!!*d about that too)

my bad for jumping to conclusions

still would like to hear everybodies opinion however!!!

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
