Ok so just want to hear everyone's opinions really.

Im looking at upgrading from a stock ECU in my R32 RB20 and playing with the idea of either of these really. Obvisouly the pro's and cons of each and what have you found out with each one.

At the moment the GReddy E-management looks better as its a cheaper option but want to get as much out of my car as possible and now as im building it up for drift i want to have tune ability as well without causing mega head aches.

Cheers in advance for any reply's

easy one, click below. Your sure to find all your answers pretty easily, and considering there is a sticky in this section about one... wont be hard

:)

Here?

NO its not pretty easy, i have already searched the forums and had a read of the "sticky" at the top of the page with the E-management.

What i want to hear is peoples feedback on both, so before you go and try and be a smartarse and post in one of my threads read the question first, i want to know what people think, pro's and con's of what people have experienced with either one.

You want to be a smartboy fark off and do it in someone else's thread of send me a PM :chairshot

Threads below took me exactly 2 mins seconds to find.

Dont be rude or warning points will be coming your way.

These threads aer only a quick find by myself.

If you really want to kknow more im sure another few mins will answer what your asking

LIKE I SAID i had done a search and went through a lot of threads, including the ones that you ever so nicely linked above.

I realise it has been covered but some of the threads that i had been reading were from not that long ago and i figured that rather than posting up in an old thread i would like to get peoples opinions and thoughts in a new one, that is relevant to what im asking and to my needs, not piggy back on someone else's thread.

Why be an arse and make out you are the only one that know's how to search??? I searched previous to posting this thread and did not get what i was looking for. Therefore posted asking a question

You want to send warning points or what ever it is you do then if that makes you feel happy go ahead, but understand it from my point of view.

Im looking for answers and your trying to make me look like an arse, like i said before send a PM and tell me your thoughts or if im doing somehting wrong when posting a thread, or give me your opinion on the topic and question.

I dont mean any disrecpect to you at all R31Nismoid and i know you got a job to do but maybe look at the way you go about things in the future, cause at the moment your coming across as a keyboard warrior that has no personality

I hear what you are saying about the two but they are both different types of after market comps I had the Greddy E Manage in my previous car which is totally different from the Skyline.... after the people were able to wire the GReddy and then get it working correctly it worked great we were able to get the car to drive very reliably and very economically whilst still being able to exract every bit of h.p available... I think the hardest thing for most people is to be able to find someone (tuning house) that has set up a GReddy into a Skyline previously otherwise it could cost you more money in setup time. My car still retained the factory ecu as it is only a piggy back but it also has the ability of being like your home p.c were you can upgrade programs and components like adding the Pro-Fec... the people that did my car also used the GReddy for there twin turbo magna and this car drives so nice almost like a factory car just with a bit more power.

From what I can understand from the PFC is that it is a plug and play which is good and that you will lose the 180klm speed limiter which also sounds good if you are into track racing, it will also give you a good tune and economy, but you will also lose some of the nicer things that the factory unit provides like the HICAS and I think a few other things... but this is a full replacement ECU with a few limitations.

I think I will end up getting a GReddy for my R33 due to how impressed I was with it in the Lancer and how much range we had with the tuning of it in RPM points... good luck with your choice it is not always an easy one

how do you loose HICAS?

i still have HICAS on my car.

HICAS (as far as i kno) has a totally separate ECU in the boot.

Can you please state what other things the stock ECU (save for the HICAS) that a PowerFC does not?

im interested to know indeed

A-LSD is the only incompatibility that I know of when comparing powerfc to stock ecu. Everything else I've seen works fine. This only affects RB25DET powerfc. The RB26DETT powerfc doesn't have any problems with the V-Spec A-LSD

cheers for the post, just one thing though what are you basing the loss of the HICAS on??? I know a couple of people with Power FC set ups in there R32's and none of them have said anything about HICAS loss???

And to tell you the truth i dont really need/want the HICAS as im building this up as a drift car :uh-huh:

i have a locked diff at the mo and was planning on getting rid of it but now that i want to get into drift that will be staying there.

The Power FC i would be install is for a Rb20 so this shouldn't cause any problems with that should it paulr33???

nah you should be fine grandmasterb, the r32 didn't have A-LSD.

"but this is a full replacement ECU with a few limitations."

Would love to know what the limitations are.. ?

yeah i realise it doesn't have a LSD and i really want to know the limiations that people keep talking about mainly for the R32 gts-t, that was kinda the point with this thread really, as i read so many others and none really covered that point at all.

Based on my experiences there aren't any real limitations, I have seen Power FC equiped cars make over 1100 bhp, I have seen Power FC equiped cars do low 8's for the 1/4. Personally I have an R32GTST with a Power FC that has 420+rwkw and it runs better than it did when standard. We also have an R32GTR and an R34GTT and all of them have Power FC's.

On the other hand the E-Manage is a piggy back, most Skylines have problems with the ignition tuning, they cook coils, won't run, won't start etc. As a piggy back it has all sorts of compromises and areas of tuning that it can't access, that the Power FC does. As for being cheaper, not when you add up all the extras you need to half way tune a Skyline.

There is simply no comparison grandmasterb, don't waste your time, buy a Power FC and get on with it.

I am sure I read somewhere that there were certain things that the PFC did not do or was not designed to do but it also depended on which version of PFC that you got... I am really sorry I can't be more specific than that due to the amount of stuff that I had read about the PFC... all that I can remember is that there was something to do with the HICAS or LSD...

The ignition and injector cables that are required for the GReddy will cost an extra $150 - $200 on top of the original $600 for the unit and as far as the tuning software and cables it is better to use a place that is experienced with the GReddy as they can be a bit tricky for most to use

Yeah i here what ya saying Sydneykid and cheers for the reply. I was talking to the local place that i got a quote off and he said that the Apexi Power FC unit that they get in is not capable of deleting the AFM, does this sound right???

I was also quoted $1050 to me in Tassie with the H/C

its cool just curious thats all, as i would like to know these things before i buy that way im not left scratching my head

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
