Jay95R33
If those $99 Uniden ones are anything like the other Uniden models it will be easy to increase the power output of them to increase the range But your battery life will suffer Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/796-cruising-and-walkie-talkies-uhf/page/3/#findComment-19537 Share on other sites

Jay95R33
Usually it's as simple as opening them up and doing a bit of tuning and spreading some little coils apart a little They almost always detune them a little, and then put a fair bit of filtering on them so they don't interfere with other radios. Ahhh, the old days of modifiying CB radios The UHF's are a little harder, and sometimes not much can be gotten out of them, but if you go from 500mW to 700mW it's a fair increase. NismoGirl
The legal to have but illegal to use for profit or gain.. ie Towies aren't meant to do what they do but they help police so they dont really worry about it. (is this right??) its what i've been told. How long does the $99 one last before a fully charged battery goes flat? Could I expect to get 6 hours of out of one? OZ GTR35
Just went to Dickies and bought 2 x 42XR model, on special from $149 to $129, have voice operated VOX, so it will work on the track and the bike without push to talk. The hands free is a bit big but hopefully I can modify it or my helmet. Apparently 20Hrs non stop operation. Very neat little Box. JiMb0
How easy are the handhelds to operate whilst driving ? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/796-cruising-and-walkie-talkies-uhf/page/3/#findComment-20764 Share on other sites
NismoGirl
Pretty easy They aren't much bigger tahn your hand I can drive and talk at the same time. If I'm not talking I usually just clip it onto the steering wheel and listen.... Or i just throw it on the seat at other times... or the passenger talks.. one of the two Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/796-cruising-and-walkie-talkies-uhf/page/3/#findComment-20915 Share on other sites

OZ GTR35
The Vox is a bit crappy on the $129 model and I dont think I will use it, the only model that has a good one was $450. The hands free is very good quality and does have another puch to talk button. Drop into a dickies and have a look.
