G'day All: Newbie Looking For A R33 Gtst.

Recommended Posts

G'day All,

May I firstly introduce myself to these forums. As many have said before, its a fountain of knowledge that I really would like to tap into.

Anyway, I've always had a passion for the R33. and now I've finally saved $15k to get one. I'm looking for one, that is fairly stock. Still on P plates located in Victoria. No issues if its an auto or not, but given my insurance etc etc, 15k is the max I can spend.

I've checked the For Sale section here. Nothing is grabbing my attention. I saw this on car sales, and am seeking your advice if its any good?

Thanks again!

Seems ok. For some reason, auto Skyline's always seem to fetch a little less than manuals.

The km's may not be legitimate though (typical of Jap imports), so take note of how much wear the interior has had (i.e seats, steering wheel, pedals etc) to get a simple idea of how much true use the car has been put through.

There's a good thread in the FAQ section on specific things to look for when buying a Skyline. Definately look it up as it'll point you in the right direction.

And lastly, don't buy the first car you look at. Test drive as many cars as you can before deciding on a purchase. You'll quickly be able to tell a good example from a lemon.

Good luck ;)

I'd recommend holding off another few months until you have $17k available for the car as that extra $2k would give you a massive range to choose from of which would have the basics like exhaust, airfilter, audio system, tints, fmic etc.

You may say you want a stock car but 2mths later you'll be wanting to put a full exhaust on it, a month later a fmic, then some big wheels etc (even though you are on your P's).

So you could save yourself a huge amount of money by holding off for that extra $2k.

auto's go for cheaper cause lets face it, who wants a auto skyline? o.O

it would be good if u looked up that thread on here some where tht talks about what to look for when

buying a skyline.

also if u are stretching with 15k take ur time and shop around.

as u dont want a lemon.

gl with the searchy

Hey Guys

Thanks for the valuable feedback. Anyway, went to check out the car today. Mindful of all the tutorials here. Fortuntely it all stacks up.... hehe

The guy seems pretty negotiable too! *rubs hands together* Perhaps I should make him an offer :P.

But yeah, I hear you about the autos, please don't flame me, as I actually am prefering one. Never really been a manual driver. As for getting one with mods, I guess, like to start with a fresh piece of paper and start myself. Personal taste I guess. See this is the problem, its pretty much what I want, stock, auto clean and straight R33 etc etc..... just want to play my cards right.

On a side note, it did have one good thing in this example. An Apexi boost gauge replacing where the ciggie lighter is. Looked professional too..... need to make that mod in my next car too!

Anyway, will keep you posted on the pursuit.

Cya

Like everyone is saying:

1) go for a manual - you will appreciate actually "driving" the car

2) save (or borrow) a couple more grand and you will open up a whole other market of cars to choose from.

3) DO NOT buy the first, or second or third car you see. Even if you think you have found the deal of the centuary and you can't miss it, YOU HAVEN'T !!! There is always a better deal, you have to weigh up how long you want to wait. I have bought a few cars now and I had finally learnt my lesson by the time I bought my current R33, I looked at 11 R33s before I bought one and the wait was worth it.

4) If you have any slight hint of a thought that you might want to modify it, then buy one that is already modified. There are many good modified cars already out there and you will save yourself thousands in the long run. Stuff the cleen slate idea, my bank account is a cleen slate and I'm a long way from fininishing my car.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
