Hi guys...im a newbie and this is my first post so bare with me

I need to install a new system into the sky but not sure about all the Watts and Rms stuff on the amp (im hopless when it comes to car stereo)

Anyways i have a 50Wx4 amp and i wanna run 7x10s, splits, and sub....i dont think this is possible. Can you guys help with recommending me a different layout. Do i need to get another amp? or is it better to run two amps? and how do you do it.

Also what size is the standard front speakers.

Thanks

Do you already have the 7x10s + splits, or are you still looking to purchase?

** Warning: the following text represents my opinion only :) ***

If you intend to run a subwoofer, I would recommend 6" 2way splits in the front (from memory the stock skyline front speakers are 6") and 6" 2 or 3 way components in the rear parcel shelf.

Depending on the quality of your headunit, if you were running only one subwoofer you should be able to run the four 6" speakers directly from your headunit using one amplifier to power the subwoofer.

As far as 'how you do it': the easiest way to hook it all up is to make sure that your headunit has enough RCA outputs for each of your amplifiers, you then do not have to worry with cable splitters which will only decrease the quality of sound further.

I'll cut this post short here as to not get too annoying... PM or just keep posting here if you've got any more questions, or any specific questions about what I've just rambled... or whatever... uhoh.. i'm still rambling....

:(

6X9'S are good if you can't run subs. Rear speakers should just fill in the sound at the rear. Get a good sets of spits as this sets up the front stage.

Careful when looking at watts. Is it peak or RMS? Peak means jack. RMS is constant power.

You're better off getting a second amp to run the sub, and running the speakers of the 4ch amp. Reason is you get a better, cleaner signal from a dedicated amp than from your head unit's built in amp.

Also, don't bother with 7x10's if you're putting in a sub. Get a decent set of 6's instead.

If money is an issue, then run the fronts and sub off the amp and the rears off the headunit.

As Silver-Arrowz said, only look at RMS and not peak. To give you an idea most good headunits only put out about 20-25W RMS.

Are you gonna do the install yourself? VERY important thing in car audio is wiring, particularly when you throw an amp into the equation. Make sure you run at least 8g power and earth cable to your amp from the battery. All connections and terminals need to be done well too.

Could go on for ages. Feel free to PM for more advice.

Honestly do not bother with rear speakers just yet, unless you spend most of your time in the back seat you would want the sound stage right in front of you as much as possible.

Put your money towards a great set of splits and a decent headunit. Keep your existing amp (post details of it btw) and add a subwoofer that would compliment the amp that you have already. Bridging two channels of the amplifer to run the subwoofer would give you around 100-120RMS, so use a sub that is efficient at this input. Something like a JLW0 which operates happily at 125RMS ($172).

Run the remaining two channels of the amp to your splits and you are a happy chappy.

NB: what I wrote above is based on a small budget, but it will do very nicely.

Read up on this, especially Chapter 5:

Thanks guys for all ur replies...pretty overwhelmed that anyone even bothered since its my first time posting up a thread.

Well i took the advice and decided to buy another amp to run the sub. As for the splits i invested in a pair of good quality sneider 6" speakers and yups i did purchase the 7x10s already. The first amp that i had before is a kenwood 50Wx4 and the one i just got is a 200W 2 channel one (thats bridged i think)

Ive read a thread posted a while back and it says that 7x10s wont fit in the rear parcel...therefore i have to make another parcel tray.

Can u guys recommend an audio installer that does a good job since i want the wiring to be neat and all and where do i get the marterials to make the parcel tray and where can i get the carpet covering to match the car.

Thanks again

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
