Just wondering if anyone else made it out to QR today for the sprints? I went out for a blast in the GTR, was good to give it a go for the first time on my Dunlop DO2Gs. My god they make a huge difference. Slashed my previous PB on the clubman layout by 2.4s. Managed 1:03.15. Pretty happy with that effort, still on stock boost even :)

Hey mate

I was out there today, and i believe Stealth was as well (he was in the pit bay next to me)

I was the very standard White R32 GTS-t running around... My first time ever on a track, and was fairly happy with the time i ran... got a 1:09.86 in my last session, and the car only has a pod and exhaust as go fast mods :)

If you have any photos of me, could you please post them up?! :)

Thanks

Jason

Ahhh, nice work. Yep I did see you down the end of the pit area along with the silver series 2 33 and Keith in his white 34. Was a pretty good day, weather was near perfect.

Oh, and btw, less power mods, more suspension and brake mods, its the only way to go. I only have full exhaust and nismo panel filter as power mods on the GTR too, but plenty of suspension, brake and cooling mods and a good set of tyres.

Sorry mate, no pics. My designated photographer didn't take many pics. They are sacked! :(

yeah, the car has a heap of suspension mods:

Kings Springs

Bilstein Shocks

Front & Rear Swaybars

Adjustable front and rear Camber

Adjustable Front Castor

Hicas Lock Kit

Urethane Lower Control Arm Bushes

Subframe Lock and Align Kit, set up for handling

Front and Rear Strut Braces

Brakes were great (i was out-braking most other cars that i was up against) and they're just the standard calipers and rotors, with some Motul RBF600 Brake Fluid and RB74 pads on the front, and just generic crappy pads on the rear.

The thing that was letting me down was tyres, i was just running Toyo Trampio GU:WN Street tyres on one end and Falken Azenis RT-215's on the other end... i could easily drop my time by around 2 seconds with better tyres, and also improving my technique a bit (i go into turn 1 too soft, come out of turn 2 too soft)

Did you hear my car detonating at all? I couldn't hear much through the helmet, but in the last session i thought i heard it ping once or twice coming through the dipper... but Kieth? (With the white R34) said that he thought he heard it pinging its tits off when i came past the pits, wheras my pit crew said he didn't hear anything :( . Now all i can think of was it was either 1) heat soak (car has standard I/C and piping) or 2) was getting blowby/oil surge, and oil going back into the intake, hence lowering octane?

Hoping to do a couple more mods before i head back out, to improve reliability etc (oil cooler, remove dust backing plates from rotors, bigger intercooler, maybe water spray and/or water/metho injection, better tyres, a bit more aggressive wheel alignment), and i'm hoping to get consistent low 67's

I didn't hear it but I remember with my old GTST I thought I heard it pinging a few times down the straights and I remember someone telling me they could hear it from the pit wall too. When I noticed it, it was quite warm so I put it down to heat soak with the small stock intercooler.

Jase,

Great time on stock boost :D It's amazing what a decent track tyre does isn't it !

Hope to see you out there on the 30th? I'll be in a purple R33 GTR and It will be good to have a few quick Skylines out there this time ;)

So speak to you there.

Also if anyone's going from the Sunshine Coast that morning PM me and we can cruise down together. I'm already travelling with 2 HSV's and a Prelude - need to increase the number of skylines, can't be seen with to many bloody HSV's now can I.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
