Hi Guys,

I just bought my first Skyline and now I'm agonisingly waiting for it to arrive. (R33 GTS-T Type M)

Now I know how cars work but I don't really know much more. I'm not a mechanic.

What I'v been thinking lately is

How do I icrease performance without using bolt on mods?

Such as bigger turbo's, increase boost, intercooler etc etc.

Basically, I want to slowly build my car as genuinly fast and the first things I wanna do are make changes to the inside / strength / power of the existing engine and then once the engine is strong enough I will bolt on the bigger turbo's etc etc

The first thing I thinking of is CAMS and possibly head gaskets...that sort of thing.

Can I get a top ten list of non bolt on mods please guys?

I'm also open to people who oppose my point of view and thinking...as I said, I'm not a machanic. (Maybe the engine is strong enough to handle all the bolt on mods straight away)

Cheers,

Sam

As sumo has said, depends on your power target.

the stock rb25 internals have been pushed to 250rwkw time and time again by numberous members of the forumn. If that is your goal, then turbo + support systems are sufficient. A stock motor that is properly tuned will last a long time like this.

On the other hand, if your power goal is 400rwkw, then you'd need to do support systems, turbos + engine work.

Apexi PowerFC

You can/should do those to start with and you won't even need to lay a hand on your motor. Expect those to increase power by around 30% to begin with.

Absolutely no point in modifying anything inside your engine if you don't have a larger turbo to bolt on as well (and it sounds like you are far from that) and even with a larger turbo you most likely won't need to modify anything at all inside the engine.

The engine is strong. Strong enough to go well into the 200's RWKW before you need to do anything other than bolt on.

Personally I couldn't wait and went for the bolt on's first.

I probably will not reach the limit where I do need to crack open the engine.. but who knows. Maybe one day.

Cheers and thanks for all your help guys. First thing on the list...Power FC. ooohohh can't wait!!!!!!!

Now I'm gonna go and put myself in a coma so when I wake up my skyline would have arrived. This wait is killing me :D

  • 3 weeks later...
hmm rb26 heads on rb30 block...then when you feel like upgrading then bolt on the goodies

yeah i agree with Ryosuke Takahashi, if you want to build a tuff engine first than build an RB30DET, then start piling on the bolt ons :D

    • Oh, I forgot too, all the multimedia stuff captured and sold through things like people playing Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go specifically, can actually be traced all the way back to a CIA investment company too. So yep, they're watching everything. Not to mention the new stuff where they've worked out how to use WiFi signals to be able to map occupants inside of a building. That one would be something that I see being more used in public/government buildings, as you need to understand the signals when the room has no one in it first. It's not as easy as Hollywood would like you to think it is.
    • Followed ☺️ Assuming those are NEO rods, then at least 400kW all day.
    • Lets keep this going , Spotted this very stock V35 in Penrith and also saw a nice R32 FLY past me on Castlereagh rd , sounded really good.
    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
    • I'm not a fan of high humidity, it's one reason I don't mind being further inland out Ipswich, except the last 3 odd years, the drought broke, and it won't stop raining, which is making the humidity nearly unbearable when the rains are in during summer! For me, my body hates the cold, once the cold sets into my body, I'm totally screwed. I end up with severe muscle spasm in my back/shoulder muscles, and it feels like someone is trying to tear the muscles out. I have no issues with it getting stupid hot, so long as the humidity goes away. So the last 3 years as above, have been woeful! Ha ha. However, June 1st, and I'm only just converting from shorts and a tee, to long pants and a t shirt. And that's mainly as it's a bit wet and miserable and I wanted to work on a car.
