nice clean ride you have there. welcome to sau-sa. from the sounds of yours mods it seems that its quite strange to be only showing 5psi (if its the stock boost guage as in factory one then dont reply on that and use an aftermarket one for more precise reading) it should be in fact showing at least 7psi given that you have a full exhaust and fmic. in regards to pure dyno runs, then blackwood dyno and tune is quite cheap (~$30 for a power run) while for dyno and tuning definately go to boostworx as it seems the service their is second to none (customer wise as well as tuning wise).

enjoy your stay and hope to see you around.

cheers,

duc.

Hey DriftR 33,

Nice work on the vehicle mate, top choice, as for a dyno, i would reccomend Graham West on Marion Rd they do some good work down there, Go down and speak with Ashley he will lead you in the right direction to be getting SAFE power, with what you have and can afford.

Darren

Hiya DriftR_33,

I back up the claims that Graham West Workshop on Marion rd is the way to go - picked up my 1997 Nissan Stagea series-1 wagon (RB25det R33 series 2 based) from Ashely and Brett last week. Had a full 80000km service and also the timing belt replaced, plus installed an alarm system.

Had the exhaust finished off with a 3inch dump pipe and hiflow catconverter, so thats now 3inch the whole way through (and they needed to modify it but did a great job), upgraded the 'cooler slightly with an R34 GTT sidemount unit, put in a new oxygen sensor, used an Hybrid electronic boost controller set to 10psi high and 7psi low, and had an apexi safc installed and dynotuned.

Top service, came out with over 20% gain (141.4kw at the 4 wheels), and they do the tuning to a SAFE tune! very imortant.!! :P

Plus gave me advice on how to get the other 40kw I want at the 4 wheels, with info on how my injectors were being used (76%) and the AFM (almost maxed out - replacing with a Z32 unit).

Very professional, I'll never be going anywhere else! Highly recommended, $88 labour rate per hour I think, with $100 per hour dyno time by memory. But well worth it - they seem to have a wealth of experience, and they own R33's themselves!

Brendan

my AFM is reading 4.95 volts Ive been told, max out at 5.06 or something similar?

So, have been told by the fellas at GWW thats its fine for the current level of tune, but if I want that extra 4wheel KW then the Z32AFM will be required. Plus was told upgrade the injectors at the same time.

Others have questioned this as well, I can only go by what Ive been told by Ashley and Brett at GWW, as they tuned the car obviously.

Either way, Ive bought a Z32 AFM now off the forums here, so will have that put on when I do my next load of mods (along with 550cc injectors for safetys sake).

Just got to work out what to do with the turbo - hiflow or relace?

Brendan

bwilkeson: 141.wkw and max out AFM?

Maxx - Ive got a Nissan Stagea wagon, so thats an 1997 RB25DET auto with the attessa AWD system. Probably losing 70kw from the crank, so power would be around 210kw at the engine less drivetrain losses from the 4wd and auto trans.

But still.................... ????

Brendan

Hey Brendan,

Thought i saw your car at Graham West, drive past every day and have a geeze in, always sweet cars there, and then i saw yours!, lookin sweet fella. Ashley told me the same, but i already have Power FC and T3 hiflow T4 and now looking for Z32, 550cc Injectors and also a Fuel Pump. My AFM is also maxed out and also my injectors and i need a complete re map of FC so gotta do all at the same time(cos i don't want to be forking out for 2 re maps) he reckons it will be good for 240Kw from the 189kw i have now, Can't wiat to find the cash, but then gonna be well in the need for some coilovers. When does it end? God damn

Have to go for a boot with you soon

Darren

bwilkeson, what is the hybrid ebc like to use? as im thinking of getting one for the sil80.

Been on the car for 1 week, only driven 90km, havent tried the low boost setting.

Seems ok for the money, but would rather a digital unit for a little more money.

But, if your on a budget like I am, its worth the $$ I guess. Was disappointed that the 2stage setting 'changers' are dials only, and can be easily bumped.

Good thing is its installed into my 'coin holder' that the Stagea has, and fits perfectly. Out of prying eyes, like the SAFC which is in my locked glovebox.

Sorry I didnt use you for the service, as per PM a month ago, wanted to get everything done at the 1 store.

Also, appologies to Drift_R33 for hijacking the thread, of sorts!

Brendan

i don't think the safc support bigger injector, so u are going power Fc or some sort?

the fuel pump should max out b4 the injector too

Hi Maxx,

Im not sure about the tuning, I was assuming that with a bit of 'magic' tuning done by the lads at Graham West, they'd be able to get the SAFC to run with a Z32AFM and larger injectors.

I will upgrade the fuel pump when I do the next lot of mods, so maybe I increase the fuel rail pressure (as per Sydneykids suggestion) rather than larger injectors.

I'll have a chat to GWW before I buy larger injectors to see if it'll work with the SAFC - but I dont want a Power FC, as the safc is a nice bit of gear for the real cheap price of $360.

Brendan

(again, apologies to Drift_R33 for the hijack)

Yah, hi Darren, cant wait to catch up, hopefully a hills run gets organised soonish. Thanks for the sweet comments! I luv my Stag, its a real sweet car. Real happy with the purchase 6 weeks ago, suits my young family just fine.

Maybe buy stuff like fuel pump and injectors off ebay? Never let me down yet (spent $8k off ebay for my Fireblade....). Hmmm, Id luv to buy the suspension deal that Sydneykid has going at the moment, but dont have the $2k required. But will do the suspension probably next year, along with slotted DBA rotors.

Doing the MV Automatics shift kit soon, and an oil cooler for the auto tranny (Drift_R33; thats a mod you should do!!).

Need info on a Turbo though. New turb's off ebay seem to be good prices, just got to work out what one will work for me (only want an extra 40-50kw at the 4wheels)...... any suggestions?

Also, power fc - works ok with an auto?? I thought you had to 'manual shift' the auto stick with an FC.

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
    • So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.
    • Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo
    • Very hard to make out what you mean, is it the squarish hole with redline shockproof (probably) under it? Is that pic from on top of the engine with the firewall to the left of pic and engine to the right? Either way, spray the area liberally with degreaser and try again, maybe circle the part you are worried about
