It's the traditional whine sound from all the speakers which rises in pitch when you accelerate/rev the engine. What are the measures i need to take to get rid of it?

I've got an Alpine CVA1000, EQ, 4ch Amp, and stacker... the stacker, eq and headunit are connected via Alpine's Ai-NET, and from the eq to the amp it's RCA's. The RCA leads have a ground cable at each end which i presume grounds the shielding. I don't think there is a noise filter on the alternator (so i spose i should get one of them to start with), I do have the power cable running next to the RCA's due to the difficulty of placing them separately.

The sound happens on all sources eg radio or cd player.

What measures can i take apart from moving the power cable to the other side of the car and putting in an alternator noise filter (actually, what type is the best one to get, and how big?)

Thanks,

Andrew

the earthing of what? the amp? Cos i sanded the metal surface back that it was going to touch to make sure there was good contact. RCA's cost me $40 each... so i would expect them to be decent.

What about the size of the Negative Battery cable? should i perhaps replace it with a bigger one? like a 4ga cable?

Try earthing it in a different place, sometimes if u earth it in a certain spot you can get engine noise

(yes the amp earthing)

may be a good idea to check FAQ's at www.caraudioaustralia.com

is most likely to be either poor earthing or a poor contact/connection somewhere - make sure all your terminals are secured well and have good contacts.

also i hope you aren't running the headunit, stacker & amp all off the same power cable - it is best to run amps on seperate cable.

is your battery in the boot? if so, try running the amp straight off these terminals.

out of curiosity, what size power + earth cable are you running?

I sort of found the problem... i have the excess RCA cables bunched up and cable tied in the boot, the power cable from the battery (i have one for each amp, 8ga for both the power and earth). I moved the RCA's a little and the noise went away... and since putting everything back in the car it has come back a little (not as loud as it was)... grrrrr... so i'm gonna chuck a supressor on the alternator to see if that does anything to remove the little bit of noise, otherwise i'm going to have to pull out the back seats again and see if i can relocate the bundled RCA leads.

  • 3 weeks later...

hmm i got that noise too, but before that my sub always popped, when i tore things apart i found out that it had been earthed on an area with a thin layer of paint. so i scratched the paint off a lil and re-earthed and the popping stopped... now all i have to do is get rid of the whine.

Nah, haven't had time to sort it yet... mine are in the RCA's, they are running a little close to the power cable.

Perhaps check your RCA's from the deck to your amp (if you have them), if not, then i don't know how to get rid of the whine... perhaps put a supressor on the alternator.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
