hey guys, im currently rebuilding my 89 gtr r32 eng and im decided to get an after market oil and water pump. the problem is i dunno what good oil and water pumps are out there. I was considering purchasing the N1 oil and water pumps but i dunno how much better they are compared to standard ones and what other better ones are out there.

One more concern is... Should i get the head rebuilt? so far im just goin all out on the bottom end with forges etc, and was wondering if its really necessary to rebuild the head or can i leave it as is.

Any advice about the oil, water pumps and head would be great. fellaz.... cheers

As far as the pumps go, i did some scouting around and decided on an N1 item, it sees regual daily driving, and the odd track day - i have a handunit for the computer and have never seen a fluctuation in temp from these pumps

Hope that helps

Definately the N1 oil and water pumps from a 34 or 33 GTR.

These are well known for being the best choice. Even the Targa 34 uses them.

As for the head, if you don't do it now and something goes wrong, you'll be kicking yourself you didn't do it when you had the chance. And only for a couple of hundred extra. Just think, you get it all back together and she runs beautiful......you run her in nicely and when all seems well, she starts pouring smoke out the arse end coz you didn't replace the valve stem seals and now they are leaking.

These engines are also well known for running leaner on cyl 6 so maybe something can be done with the head to prevent this. Also you can get the oil return galleries widened so that there is a more efficient oil return to the sump.

Don't forget to have the dowels removed from the crank and have threaded studs put in their place. This will ensure the durability of the crank when you push it hard for longs periods and only costs about $50 to get done.

    • So I actually had the cover off my car today, here is a (bad) pic of the setup. I have an oil cooler thermostat block, the temp sender is straight in there. The pressure sender has a short AN line to a T piece which is mounted (hopefully cable tied counts as mounted....) on the chassis. BTW every fitting you could ever imagine exists....just depends what they cost and how many you need. Raceworx AN adapters are here: https://raceworks.com.au/fittings/adapters/, I think you said you need BSPT to AN (https://raceworks.com.au/fittings/adapters/bsp/tapered/an-to-bspt-adapters/) and AN to NPT (https://raceworks.com.au/fittings/adapters/npt/) BTW, braided line is super simple to make. It looks intimidating, is not.
    • Perfect day for a pie, really needs a soft top in this weather though
    • Prime parking, she is a little girl...LOL
    • I'm actually not sure - I think it was "Stealth Performance" (It really is near impossible to find a FEMALE 1/8BSPT to 1/8NPT male at ALL) but having the thing leveraged on a 90 degree angle on a small aluminium fitting is not too smart. Also in not too smart, I've drilled out the center of the broken fitting so there's maybe 0.00001mm of thread to bite into, so yeah. I may have to get it drilled/tapped/plugged entirely. Given I could conceivably tap a thread/adapter/pressure line in any point in the oil system I suppose it's feasible to run a line to the Nissan Sensor to keep the dash working. Do these exist in AN fittings and the like? Like an AN fitting that has a NPT (or other?) thread as well for putting a sensor in?
    • I would agree.  There will be an amount of boost you could run safely with an otherwise factory system, but it would be low enough to not be worth the cost.  And if you are reliving your 20s, you know a 'little bit' was never enough. Personally, if I didn't want to spend the money, then stick with NA bolt-ons, and maybe a tune.
