i have an R32 gtr...pretty stock, trust front pipes, hks exhaust and 17X9 work cr emothions

i have noticed that when my car hits around 110-120km an hour the steering wheel wobbles around heaps its really shitting me, i have had my wheels balanced and aligned......what else can it be? could it possibly be the front drive shafts? i have noticed when i am in reverse it feels like there is a little slack some where from when i put my foot down and i hear a little clunk, as in there is like movement in a uni joint or some thing......then it moves....

also some times ill hammer round a corner the back will slide out, front wheels come in and then when i begin to drive normal again the 4wd light will come on and stay on and the Torque split guage will sit on 10%..........then i turn the car off on agin and its gone and may not do it agin for a week or more........???

thanks

Tried getting your wheels balanced by another place? if you still have steering wheel shake after having the alignment/balance you should be able to take it back and ask them these questions.... they are teh experts :)

Dont see how it could be your front drive shaft - it shouldn't be moving if your cruising on 110-120, there should be no front drive.

Check your attesa fluid - should be a plastic cup filler in the boot for it. Maybe its low...

weird

Well with the speedo wobbles, thats usually just your speedo unit (may have been tampered with? thats why its not smooth).

Steering wheel shakes, i would suggest you either have a problem with your wheels or tyres? Get another balance/alignment done.

just pulled a front wheel off checked the offset, i konw gtr's are ment to have +40 my cr emotions are +17 could that be the problem, also there is a little bit of movement with my front drive shafts, and the actual disk rotor???

i had the same problem. a wheel balance didnt help. i was told that the front rims are buckled and needs re-rolling. apparently the previous owner must of went over a gutter pretty hard. this may set you back about $150 per wheel to fix. depends though..

at first i thaught that too but.....when i had the wheels balanced we could see that all the rims were True

so that eliminates that

what bout the offset? its +17 should that make a difference to drivability

??

    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
    • Ive converted a few clusters for the R33 with 320km/h dials. On the back there are some pads which can be bridged or unbridged (using solder or wick braid) to calibrate it. There is one bridge which is for MPH <> KPH; and there are combinations of bridges to offset it. There is probably a diagram  For example; this is my conversion for a 180km/h dial to a 320km/h dial (I put custom GT-R dials on it with the GTS25t layout) If you have J2 soldered (assuming the S clusters have a similar config to the R clusters); you may need to remove that solder
    • Back on topic 😉, these are some of the notable pages from the booklets that are supplied with each weekly parts update. I never knew the BNR32 test mule car had an S13 Silvia front end... *Edit: On closer inspection the test car still had the R32 body, but only the front end had Silvia panels etc.
