  1. I suspect that it is exhaust restriction, but I don't think anyone can really say for certain. When you knock the exhaust off and swap it with your friends, make sure you do the cat too. Some 'high flow' cats are not really high flow at all. Your car is quite a bit down on power in terms of what it 'should' be making. After swapping exhausts, if you feel a lot more power, and response, then that means it was the exhaust
  2. It really really depends on how heavy your foot is. I was born with a lead right foot, so my car hardly ever sees over 300 to about 45 L. With the bigger turbo, driving around town, it should be harder to get on boost, so if you're trying to drive economically, it should use less petrol. The stock turbo goes on boost at the lightest touch of throttle, or up the slightest hill. But on the other hand, the bigger turbo, plus fuel requirements means that when you give it some, it'll use more fuel, because it makes more power. So in essence.... It depends on how you drive it
  3. Buy one of my turbo housings and take it to get it highflowed. That way, you're guaranteed that you get a new one that is in KNOWN condition
  4. Hey Dan One important thing that we need to know first. What turbo are you running? I remember you telling me that its the slide highflow, but which one (rb25, rb25 oversize, vg, vg oversize). Even the smallest one on 15 psi should make a fair amount more than that. On 15 psi, a car we did got around 225 rwkw (after tune). Best way to find out, to just crack the catback off (including the cat) and see HOW restrictive it is
  5. Hey Guys Asking a big favour here. Is there someone in Sydney who has a spare (working) CAS for a sII r33 lying around? I only need it for a few minutes. I'm trying to diagnose a timing issue (I believe it may be the cas, but costs a lot to buy a new cas just for something that may be working properly. I'm not sure if the cas from an r33 sI, 32 or 34 is the same. I'd really appreciate it. If you can, please call or text me on 0403 211 482 or reply here Cheers Chris
  6. I have some housings for sale. Would you consider buying a housing, taking it and getting it retrimmed - then you can sell your turbo off, and get a brand new highflow - not one with unknown condition?
  7. Well, you said you don't want to take the rear seats out - what do you want to take out? As mentioned above, sound deadening - wanna scrape that off and have the car more noisy? Want to take out the door trims, dash, roof trim, carpet etc? Boot trim? Spare tyre and jack? How about pay 1k for a carbon bonnet, few hundred for a carbon bootlid?
  8. Neither of those will produce good light output. Absolute waste of money. PM s8 Gohan. Tried installing hid kit into oem r34 hid housings. Due to the fact that those crappy kits have a h1 fitting, and the housing has a stupid adapter in it for h1, the focal point has been moved. Expect less light output than standard, glare other drivers, and to be defected within about a week. Go oem - well worth the money, or don't do it at all
  9. Not saying that the quality will be anywhere near as good. I'm saying that it is perfectly acceptable, and I'd be willing to live with the sacrifice for $250 instead of 1k
  10. Nope, I said 044 for a reason. I have never liked the 040. It always seems to cavitate/fail. I've fixed numerous cars which have had cavitation problems/failed pumps with 040s in them.
  11. Well, the standard pump has a bracket. It's not hard to install an 044 in tank. You just have to modify that bracket, mount it onto that bracket, and squeeze it into the tank (the pump's quite large, so it'll need some maneuvering, but you shoudl eventually be able to get it in without it resting on the bottom of the tank (otherwise it'll be really noisy).
  12. Make sure you get the manifold machined. You most likely will also need to clean up the holes with a die grinder just to make it fit on flat.
  13. It'll come off. I've had one a bit sticky before. It was because one of the studs was half snapped, and it was wedged against the edge of one of the holes (if that makes sense), since the manifold was warped. Try tapping it lightly with a mallet. Lightly, not smash it like crazy
  14. If your mechanic deosn't know where to get gasket goo from, is he a real mechanic? Anyone/everyone sells gasket goo. autobarn/repco/autoone/supercheap auto. I've seen it in the supermarket, in kmart, service stations. Loctite make some, as do permatex
  15. Birnie, those are not a good thing at all. I have an apexi ecv, and with it closed, it makes it quieter, but you literally have no power at all. You pretty much can't accelerate at any decent rate. e.g. in first, if you floor it, it takes seconds to get up to a decent rpm. Cutting into the free way would be impossible. I knwo that the device is different to an ecv, but essentially, with it closed, it'll be restrictive and therefore have no power/response etc. Does your exhaust come with a buttplug? tried driving with it on? With min, its not as bad as as with the ecv closed, but it doesn't have much power.
  16. You'll be right matey. If it was how you bought it (missing bits etc), i'm sure you got it for a good price. Even if you were to chuck the whole motor out, pick up a second hand rb20 from the wreckers for $400, chuck it in, you'll be laughing. Think of it as having bought a rolling shell. It's up to you how you want to customise it - how much you want to spend etc. If you have more to spend, chuck in an rb25, more again, build an rb30
  17. Hey jase, you gonna do the belt yourself? or get a mechanic to do it?
  18. James, what it comes down to is: how much you can afford to spend whether you'll be putting it in yourself how much power if so, how good are you at modifying to fit if not, how good is your mechanic Basically, what it comes down to, is that the tomei and nismo variants are designed to be straight bolt in. In terms of straight bolt in, I mean literally, comes with everything down tot he last hose clamp, tank gasket, brackets, everything. I personally like the tomei/nismo pumps, and with the aussie dollar at its all time high, the price is cheaper than ever before. I remember when I first got my car, to get a nismo pump, you were looking at about $800 (less parts people back then too, so they charged whatever they liked). If you don't mind fabricating stuff, you could fit something like a bosch 044 intank, or run a lift pump and use an 044 externally.
  19. It won't be good. expect glare and to be defected
  20. I don't see why this justifies a warning to all modified car owners? You bought a shitbox - you should have inspected it first. Deals that are too good to be true often are. If it was missing all that crap from the auction, you would suspect something. Instead of seeing it as a bargain, I woulda seen it as a heap of junk and moved onto the next car
  21. Totally agree with you mate. I'd be willing to give the ebay ones a go. I am SURE that they will not break any faster than a brand name one. Why would it.
  22. Nissan service manual says 10 000ks. People only change it at 5000 ks, for various reasons. e.g. some people do trackdays and the oil gets burnt. Others run really rich and the oil gets diluted. Some people have too much money to spend. PS: just because oil is black doens't mean its not lubricating anymore - it means that it is picking up dirt, which it is supposed to do!
  23. The 20 housing is smaller than the rb25 one (just like how the vg one is bigger than the 25 one). PS: these are the markings on the comp and exhaust housings:
  24. woohoo, someone has finally said it
  25. well, I'm in st ives, so not too far away. Pretty busy though. Gratuities are always welcomed
