  1. so the question is, you can get second hand HKS gt2535's for $1500, are the Garret equivelants cheaper? and would you take the HKS over the Garret if there was only a few hundred dollars difference? Karlos
  2. to my understanding HKS put thier own exhaust housings on the gt2535 and possibly bigger turbine. this is going from what a guy at ATS here in adelaide told me. Karlos

  5. thats the question! i know i have to use the CAS to set it. can i use a normal timing light and a spark lead between coil and plug? also do i need to turn any other timing advances off to get to base timing (put ECU into diagnostic mode etc)?   7. hmm.. well i put ths motor into my r31 skyline so that way of resetting the comp probably wont work.. is there any other way of resetting it?
  8. i dont need to put the computer into diagnostic mode or anything? to bring it back to base timing?
  9. ok thanks. i'll see if i can find a timing light and goto a workshop and get a lead made up, i'm on holidays otherwise i could of made one at work. can anyone confirm that base timing revhead suggested?
  10. just about to order the mufflers for my zorst, just wondering what ppls oppinions are on whether the RB20DET needs 1 or 2 mufflers? i'll have a full 3" system but i dont want it to drone or be heaps loud (keep the sleeper factor of my car). i was thinking a 3" highflow cat, ultraflow 17296 (16" long 6" thick barrel muffler) and another oval muffler tucked in under the car. thing is... its an r31 skyline and theres not much clearance for a second muffler. what do all the r32/rb20det guys think of the matter? should i go 2 mufflers or will it be fairly quite still with a cat and big single muffler? cheers Karlos
  11. ok cool. so all i need is a timing light and i can adjust it. whats the base timing supposed to be on the rb20's? do i set it to the 0 mark or does it have to be a certain advance? oh and how the **** do i adjust it with no spark leads for the timing light pickup?
  12. just wondering what adjusting the cam angle sensor on my rb20det will do? i had to pull it off to change the timing belt but didnt record its position before removing it. does this alter the timing or anything? cause it can clearly be rotated 10mm either way. anyone care to enlighten me on the subect?
  13. was gunna reply to this.. but then read all R33NT's posts and realised how pointless arguing with him is.. clearly hes god and knows everything.
  14. took my AAC valve off to clean it and check it over and i just lost the oring in my engine bay! can i use some Loctite blue sealant or silicone? or does it need an oring? theres a small hole on the outside of the oring groove but it looks like it just clamps onto the face of the manifold. i'll have a look tomorrow morning for it but i dont like my chances. would motor traders or CBC have an oring to suit?
  15. just alittle bit O/T but what bearing does this have on cooler piping sizes? most people tend to have smaller piping on the turbo to cooler piping and say this decreases lag. but using this theory wouldnt it increase lag as the larger volume in the larger cooler to plenum piping slow down the charge even more as it expands? or is this done because the air expands within the cooler? ie charge has less restriction through the cold side so flow is not interupted as much.. hope that makes sense.. i just woke up but if anyone can enlighten me? i'm just about to install my cooler and am trying to decide what size piping i should use, i dont want a big increase in lag but dont want to restrict any power increases. (this is on an rb20det)
  16. just wondering what everyone uses and recommends in oils? whats the best oil grade for the rb20det gearbox's? wondering whether a change in oils may help my synchos out abit as 2nd gear is a bitch at the best of times. also my oil pressure dies off too much at high operating temps so i'd like to change oils as its fine when cold but i think the oil is alittle thin after warm-up. what grades and brands do you recommend?   18. does anyone know much about these turbos or even better know someone whose put one on a rb20det? i'd like to find out how well the rb20det handles them, i can either go to a t3 hi-flowed for about $1000 or i can get one of these for $300 and they supposedly handle 20+psi with ease.. cheap as but i've heard the series 5s spool approx +4000 rpm and i cant find much info about the series 4. i'd like it to be very streetable but ideally reach 200-220rwkw.

  21. selling my RB30E and auto trans from my r31 series 3. includes engine, loom, ECU, trans, tailshaft etc. everything there and in A1 condition. pulled out to fit an rb20det and 5 speed. $550 for the lot in adelaide. Karl
  22. my car isnt starting and i'd like to find out if its spark. how do i check to see if the ignitor/amplifier is giving power to the coils? also if one coils buggered i presume it would still start yeah?
  23. hi guys, just installed an R32 RB20DET into my R31 and have the cooler piping and r32 cooler but i'm thinking i'm missing a piece for the cooler. also how is it mounted? if i can get some pics of an r32 engine bay and without bumper or the cooler piping assembled out of the car that be awsome. also is there an easy way of checking fo spark besides ripping all the intake etc off that goes over the rocker covers? i've got it cranking but it wont start! theres fuel going into the fuel rail but doesnt come out the return when im cranking it, does the fuel regulator block fuel flowing out until a certain pressure or should a small amount of fuel always flow out? has anyone done this conversion?
