Ok after the 3rd time i've written this msg (mods wtfs with the no forum specified msg's?) what i need to know is: I've bought my car, now i just need to get it complied, its an R31 GTS-X with a fairly worked RB24DET. basically to get it complied i'll need to return it to stock. so i was thinking i'd get an rb20det and chuck all the standard manifolds, turbo, loom, injectors, ecu etc on my rb24 block so i can retain the original engine number. what do you guys think? will doing this cause major troubles? all it needs to do is drive in to the transport department pass an emissions test and drive out, nothing too hardcore but i dont want it pinging its head off or blowing up. will it run with larger stroke and standard ecu? any opinions? sydney kid? i want to get it complied with the apropriate engine number but not if it costs me an engine.

  3. I think if lag is a problem i'll swap the turbo for something smaller, mabye a 2835r or the like. trouble is if i do that then i'll have to get the ECU retuned or change it altogether. anyone in adelaide that knows the Fcon's?

Hmm, wonder why they've used 12 injectors anyways? why not just go 6x GTR ones and use the entire rb26 inlet plenum/throttles? gtr injectors are large enough arnt they? looks like i may need to change the whole motor over to get it through regency, not just swap int/ex manifolds and turbo. i doubt the 2.4 would pass emissions with all standard gear (inc ecu/loom) chucked on. 0HR30t the interior is in awsome nick, looks brand new, tons of aftermarket gauges etc too, just no stereo.
  6. yeah i noticed the 2nd fuel rail aswell, didnt notice the single throttle, hmmm i must contemplate this new discovery.. i wonder whether thats 12 GTR injectors or 6 RB26 and 6 RB20 injectors. also notice the remote oil filter, oil cooler? wish these japanese were more informative, i wonder what clutch its got? whats the gearbox gunna be like when my last box broke with only 170rwkws?! oh and this is gunna be my daily driver! :headspin:

  8. ok i'll load some pics onto my webspace. worth buying one what? a spare car? i thought about getting a front cut but hopefully i can lease an rb20det and the rest for a week just to get through regency for considerably less than buying a FC. 280rwkw?! shit sounds like i'll be looking at a ****in quick car!

Yea i thought it looked like a monster turbo. hmm wonder how laggy it'll be? well non complied i'll be getting it for around 10k but then i'm gunna have to get it through compliance. i'm hoping if i chuck the standard manifolds and turbo back on the 2.4 will still pass emissions at regency. should cost a couple thousand plus to get it complied because of all the shit i have to return to standard!
  10. Hey guys, I've just bought an R31 coupe in japan and was wondering what you guys think i'll be looking at power-wise from the engine thats in her. RB24DET (rb26 crank, rods and tomei pistons) KKK K27 turbo Trust high mount manifold and external gate rb26 plenum and injectors rb26 cooler HKS FCON V HKS EVC thats about all i know, its garenteed to have lots more mods as i can see alot of things in the pics i got that wern't listed. so what do ya think? am i looking at over 200rwkw here?   13. dont qoute me but i'm pretty sure GTR's didnt get put in to production until mid year (august?) so no one will have got one complied yet.

  15. just a question sydneykid, you said in ur first post you need an aftermarket oversize rb20det head gasket, why is it oversize? i thought the 4agze pistons are the same as the 20det bores, your just changing the stroke right?
  16. ok just got the multimeter out and checked the voltage. at idle charge is 13.9 and when lights are turned on and idle drops etc the voltage drops to 13.8 not much of a difference yet it affects the cars running by a long shot. also noticed the voltage doesnt raise with the revs. stays at a fairly constant 13.9

  18. does anybody know where i can find an english translated rb20det workshop manual? i need to sensor resistance values and ecu fault codes. any help would be appreciated Karlos
  19. well charge gauge says i'm charging at 14.5 volts but i'll double check with a multimeter tomorrow. dont think it was the altenator that screwed the battery as it just died after i didnt use the car for a few days, after that the battery wouldnt hold charge (was about 3 years old too). actually i've relaxed on the throttle lately so it shouldnt go up like it has.. mabye i should drive faster to save on fuel
  20. well my RB20det has developed an interesting problem... whenever i turn the lights on the idle drops and the engine shudders and shakes like its misfiring! not a real bad misfire like when you isolate a cylinder but noticable nontheless. what the hell could cause this? anyone had this happen? i've just replaced the battery so it cant be running out of charge surely? its been using more fuel than usual lately too if that counts.   21. use z31 turbo hubs up front and import 31 struts. then get ya rear axles redrilled to the same stud pattern and use ford rear brakes from memory thier the same offset as the 31 rears, just needa change the caliper mount. i was gunna do this but ran outta money. although when you add up all the additional costs unless you can get 18s for 200 bucks it's shitloads more expensive than just importing a set! but you get bigger brakes front and rear.
