  1. Cheers for the feedback people. I took it to a mechanic who quickly thought it was a coilpack or spark plug problem. After investigation though, he found oil in chamber 6 of my engine (or something like that) and discovered my car had only been running off 5 cylinders. So they stripped the head to investigate the cause, suspecting it was a failed rubber fitting which stops oil getting into the engine (or something a rather - I have no idea what he was saying, but my dad understood most of it). Anyway, parts and labour + the fact I got it serviced at the same time means the bill is going to be $2000 I don't think these guys have pulled a red herring though, since for starters they seem genuinely trustworthy and also they kept ringing us to tell us what they had found out, or what they planned on doing to get approval. Basically he had replaced the spark plugs and checked the coils etc. and it was only going to cost a few hundred dollars, but he couldnt guarantee that that would have fixed the problem, and thus my dad told him to investigate further.
  2. Thanks heaps mate. I ended up just dropping my car into the mechanics since it's due for a service anyway. My car was also vibrating more than usual at low revs so I thought it might be something a little more serious than a sensor malfunction. Anyway, cheers for the help people.
  3. Hey all, Just wondering if someone on this forum could identify a warning light that came on the other day in my R34 GT. It is an amber/light yellowish symbol in the top right hand corner of the dash which seems to look a bit like an engine or something. It is common across all cars, but my R34 manual (a condensed one which came with the car) doesn't explain what it means, and in my parents car (a Jeep) it seemed to have a very broad/generic meaning (for example coolant needs changing or fuel tank has lost some pressure). I don't think it warrants me taking it to the mechanic straight away, as it may be something that I can easily fix (say if it was actually coolant). If no one understands my description of it, I'll draw a picture of it and post it in the next day or two (currently dont have the net at the house I just moved into). Cheers UPDATED: The problem is back! - Please see my last reply!
  4. Sony have just released a high volume 1 gig Memory Stick Pro Duo, which will retail for about $120 so I'll hold out for that.
  5. I got my 1998 NA R34 in perfect condition with 31000kms 2 years ago for just under 32000$. Had an Altia kit (often mislabelled a Nismo kit) and a massive spoiler. Goes well as well, and that's without mods. Good luck finding one which meets your budget - they are great first cars!
  6. I've decided with my car that I'm not going to bother doing any mods to it, and I'll just trade it in at the same car dealers for a GTT towards the end of uni. Some prick recently rubbed my bumper quite badly and did a runner so I have to get that fixed first
  7. My car's radio only goes up to 90.0FM, but I realised that such frequencies are just 18 mhz off the actual Australian ones. So for example for 96.9, you would tune to 78.9 and it works fine. Try this with your radio, and congrats on the buy!
  8. Any chance you would sell the monitor by itself? If so, for how much?
  9. Did the car that was 'found' in tumbi umbi have any damage (like the one in Chatswood did)? I only ask because the owner may have returned the car to the area and claimed to have found it, simply to cover up the fact that he was driving it the other night when the incident happened in Chatswood. Only a thought...
  10. Nevermind. Ijust read the road laws and it seems that the worst I could get (even with the new laws) is a hefty fine.
  11. Hey all, I was parked in a No Stopping Zone last night (taking a punt, but thinking that the worst that could happen would be I get a parking ticket). Since I was always in view of my car and it was just after 7:30PM I wasn't that concerned. Anyway a police car pulls up beside my car and slows down to almost stop. I don't think he was taking my plate number but I can't be sure. Anyway he then continued to drive and it appeared that he was going to do the block, so I hopped in my car and drove off in the mean time. My question is about being parked in a No Stopping Zone. Would the policeman fill out a ticket and place it on your windscreen or just take your plate number? It was only as I watched from a far that I made the link with parking in a No Stopping area and a loss of points but it was too late. I only have 1 point left as well, so that could spell the end of my license for 3 months Another question on that note. If I were to get my Green Ps in the interim period (if I do in fact get a fine) would I still lose the points based on my old red Ps license or would they come off my new green Ps license (and therefore I would no t lose them)? Cheers

  13. Ok cool thanks mate. I left my lights on the whole day at uni 2 weeks ago. Imagine my surprise finishing an 8 hour day with a flat battery and then finding a parking ticket on my windshield :|
  14. The main thing to have put me off R33s (with the exception of really clean Series II models) is that they are just so damn common these days. I see at least 3 different R33 SI's a day (and by different I mean that I rarely see the same ones over different days - they are almost always completely different cars). I love the look of a nice SII, but I really don't like the look of the older-than-1995 R33s. On the other hand I might see the odd R34 on campus (we have about 5 at my uni), but other than that I would probably only see a handful each month. On top of that, I agree with CWest, I just think they look better Once again just my opinion.
  15. G'day, I was just wondering if there are any adverse effects of having your battery go completely flat (ie. the immobiliser won't work, clock resets, even the current trip odometers reset). I thought some ECU settings might be lost, or something like that? Cheers
  16. G'day cookie. I'm definitely not selling it. I was only gauging people's opinions over the topic. I'm going to wait until I'm out of uni to trade in my car and hopefully upgrade (through the guys who sold me it originally)
  17. Well I would say that I get about a week and a half out of one tank and that's going about 25-35 km a day (on avg.) So basically for $45 bucks I'll get a solid 8 - 10 days worth of driving around the suburbs. On a freeway it uses basically nothing. I drove to Gosford and Back and the needle had moved maybe half a bar? Thanks guys. I'm not considering the swap, but was interested in seeing what people thought anyway. I'm definitely going to wait to upgrade to a GTT.
  18. I was wondering what you guys would choose. There is a really really 96' R33 GTS-T for sale from the guys I got my car from. It has pretty sweet rims I'm wondering which would cost more to insure (my current cars insurance, green slip and pink slip costs are intense, but I imagine the R33's wouldn't be much difference). Also would the costs of petrol for the R33 be alot more than the R34s? I would assume so. Anyway I'm just interested in what you guys would choose (I'm not considering changing, but am just curious anyway). Here are some pictures of my current car, though I have now decided I'm not going to mod it at all. http://www.aussiewheels.com/profile/View.php?ID=408 I think what I'm going to do is wait until I have a steady job in a few years, and the price of R34 GTT's has come down a bit, and then I'll trade in my current car and with price adjustment hopefully upgrade to the GTT
  19. Sorry mate but I'm tight for cash (the benefits of driving an R34 - High insurance, green slip and pink slip all come at the same time during the year )
  20. General Information BRAND NEW 149cm Rossignol Nomad Snowboard w/ HC500 Bindings PRICE: $500 ONO. This snowboard is an unwanted and unused competition prize that I collected in January 2005. The board and bindings are perfect for a young teenage boy of age approximately 12 - 14, or a young teenage girl of age approximately 14 - 17, depending on their body build. It is a great entry level board, and comes with brand new HC500 Rossignol bindings, which were also included in the prize pack. The snowboard is ready to go, and no tuning will be required. However, you may want to have the actual settings of the bindings adjusted before hitting the slopes, which simply requires visiting your local Snowsports shop, or a slopeside tuning shop. If you live in New South Wales, I can suggest some shops where you might want to get your settings changed at, or buy other equipment. I have done my best to gauge the value of the board, given web reviews and reccomended retail prices. However, if you think that the price I have set is unreasonable, feel free to make an offer. Finally, please feel free to contact me regarding any enquiries whatsoever, and I will do my best to respond to them as soon as possible. Shipping details Buyer pays shipping Australia wide, unless you live in NSW, in which case we could arrange to meet and exchange the board. Pictures - Sorry about the quality, these pictures were taken on my camera phone... Contacting me Please send any urgent enquiries to [email protected] Cheers!
  21. I saw a black R32 at the end of a street near my house today which looked a bit similar, but then again, to me, all R32's do (I didn't really have time to observe the car for long as I was driving, so I don't even remember what wheels it had, but my instinct is that I would definitely remember VOLK TE37s). I will try to drive past that street again tomorrow.
  22. I basically always drive between 2 - 3k revs. I use 5th generally for 80km/h and over.
