I'll keep an eye out. I live on the north shore too. . It just really sux. I can't beleive that a car so close to me and so similar to mine could be taken. can I ask, did you have an arlarm/immob?
-
the motherboard and everything is too big. If you get onto mp3car, they have this little pc, which is smaller than the size of a headunit, so you can stick it into the centre console. e.g. even using perspects, you won't be able to build one as small as on the first page. that's not a normal motherboard.
-
I don't really see it as being a problem. I've 'borrowed' a few 1 gig sticks from work... ahem. I understand that they're slower than a hd, but USB 2 isn't too bad though. e.g. it's possible to fit windows on 1 1 gig stick. then have the other one for instaling software. Considering a lot of skyline owners have hard suspension (even normal suspensions will probably kill a hd), this might be a feasible option. BTW, sorry about whoring your thread, great job btw. Hopefully i'll be able to do something similar too.

no good. Too big.

the harddrive is the only thing that is turning me away from the car computer, so i f I can overcome this.... HDD have never been my friend. even my home ones start clicking after a few years. you know the drill, click click click. you whack it, then it starts working again. but don't rely on whacking it for too long, because it will eventually die...

I'd be really interested if you could help me find that software. I can't remember the program, but it is possible to shrink windows xp. There is also a smaller version of xp too. I haven't been on mp3 car for a while. uni work is keeping me busy. Sighs... my exams finish on the 22nd. i'll have 4 weeks to do the project.

I've been reading on mp3 car for a while now. cAn I ask, where did you buy all your stuff from?

I've had my eye on doing this for a while. I've done the exact same thing as you regarding the screen. I've only got a dvd player hooked up to it atm though. The only issue i've been thinking about is the hdd. My car has rock hard suspensions in it. When I say hard, I mean if a chick was sitting in the car, it's orgasmically hard. excuse the pun. I reckon a hd would last about a week. See, one method I was thinking about is whether it's possible to load an os onto a usb flash drive. I.e. can you boot from usb? Doesn't appear to be possible imo, because you'd need drivers in the bios or somethign for the usb key. Is there such thing as a flash hdd? 1 gig would be plenty for a shrunken version of windows. or maybe even linux. Then I could install and run all my other software off a dvd or something. Even my dvds skip becacuse of the suspensions.

Who Has Installed Their Group Buy Hid Kit?
MANWHOR3 replied to Xizor's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
You don't need diagrams or anything. It's literally that straight forward. You just hook up the red to the +, the black to the -, bung the bulb in. find somewhere to mount the ballast. If you're iffy, I wouldn't install it yourself, because they are really high voltage (Mega electric shock) if you're not careful. I watched a friend install his hid kit. It didn't turn on. He didin't know if the bulb was blown or if the ballast wasn't working. So get this... HE USED A MULTIMETER on the ballast output.... If you're in Sydney, I have a friend who can install it for you. He doesn't charge much and does a good job. PM me if you like. But i won't be able to help ya till after the 22nd. -
Oral contracts are just so iffy. As Johny said, legal proceedings are almost not an option. The main problem is, that it's your friend's word against his. Furthermore, in legal proceedings, even if you win, even if the other side pays costs, you don't get it all back. Try and represent yourself and you will lose. Get a lawyer, you end up paying more than 220. It also depends on what arrangement they made. For example. If your friend was just looking at buying a car, and he asked if he could just have it checked out. The other guy says ok. Then this is not a contract for the sale of the car. It's nothing. The other guy owes your friend nothing. So the car turned out bad. bad luck. Lose lose. The most appropriate solution would be a non judicial remedy. Try and negotiate with the other guy. But basically, I reckon the money is gone. Your friend should be more careful in making contracts in the future.

You can't really just bung some rubber in there. That's what happens when you buy old cars like 32s. things wear out. MEguirs won't do anything to that. they're dead and cracked. Either replace it or leave it and move on. 32s are cheap. the money you saved buying a 33 can pay for stuff like the odd window seal.

for 25k, you'll get a shit r34 gtt. No doubt about me. Find a good 34 gtt for 25k and i'll take 1. I don't mean just fully keyboard warrior up a pic on carsales.com. most of them have actually done shitloads of ks, have accident repair history etc. For 25k, you can get yourself a very good condition sII r33 gtst. If I was to buy another one today, i'd be looking at spending around 21k on the car itself. Then you have about 4k for mods. won't get you 250 rwkw, but it will get your 200rwkw. But that's just me. I like things perfect with not a single door dent. No swirlies in the paint. No blemishes on the interior. around 60ks. not thrashed. no accident history. Engine bay and underside of the car looking like it just came out of the factory. Alternatively, buy one for 13k. and replace almost everything in it, since most of it iwll be worn out anyway. But it'll end up costing more than the newer one.

I wouldn't use them on any skyline.

R32 V.spec Gearbox Recondition
MANWHOR3 replied to saliya's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
r + r means remove and refit. I assume he took the box out, took it to the box mob with the parts and got them to rebuild it for 450. -
the pulsar rear hatch. From my search previously, the puslar rear hatch damper was the best suited to modifying for the skyline bonnet. The ba falcon one is a poor choice. Firstly, not made by monroe (when I last checked). Therefore, you'd have to go to ford new. Secondly, they're way too fat. The skylines have very little room under the bonnet. I could see the pulsar one as just fitign with some mods. I didn't ahve a welder, so I couldnt' do it. Like I said, if you manade to, i'll be very interested.

Skyline Prices When New?
MANWHOR3 replied to b1ancardi's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It's all cool dude. I get what you're saying, skylines are common being a good thing. That is, we're at least seeing some around as opposed to none. I thought you were doing this thing that this guy did before. He goes skylines are as common as commodores/lancers etc. -
Skyline Prices When New?
MANWHOR3 replied to b1ancardi's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I used to have the prices. my computer died. Keep in mind that prices change - inflation. 93 model 33s are now 13 years old. remember skyline > 200sx. which were sold in the 40s here. Skylines common? it's only because you're on the look out for them. e.g. if you were actually looking out for au falcons, you'd see about 10-15 times as many as skylines. -
yep, I have a kaixen kit. As far as i'm concerned, after market kits are all the same shit. I haev pictures of a stock 34 xenon light on a wall. Cutoff is clean. Light spread is good with no bright focus points. I also have a pic of the aftermarket kit installed into the 34 'converted' housing. Looks like shit. I believe that the problem is that, you know when they convert it to h1, how they change that little bulb holder bit? When coupled with an a/m kit, it must move the focal point ever so slightly. Afterall, when talking optics, even 2-3mm is the difference between good and bad. For you, oem is easy. I've seen oem 34 xenons go for <1000. There was a set that went for 600 about 6 months ago. I used to be permanetly browsing the for sale section for good stuff. For my r33, it's harder. sIII gtr lights are rare , so have to bought new from nissan, and don't really fit either.

for 15 k, you will not get a perfect sII. My friend just paid 14 and got an immaculate r32 gtst. If I was to buy an r33 again, i'd be looking to spend around 20k When I buy cars, I want them to be totally and utterly perfect. Just like my current one is. I mean not a single door dent. No swirlies, not a single scrape on the front bar. nothing. Guarantee you wont' get that for 15.

new from repco - about $50 each. the load rating is also perfect. I forgot how heavy it was, but i got monroe to calculate it for me.

keep us informed with how you go. I tried to do this mod a while ago. the probelm is that there is not much room between the guard and the bonnet. If you try and think of squeezing it in there, you'll know what I mean. At the time, the closest I could see was the n16 pulsar rear hatch dampers. I reckon I could have got them to fit if I could have made up a new bracket. Unfortunately, I don't have any welding equipment.

imo, stick with the oem unit. With other parts, yes, aftermarket is better. But with lighting, you generally (note, generally) cannot beat oem. I have wasted over$1k on several different kits, and several different bulbs trying to 'correct' this problem. reflector housings normally use a d2r bulb which has a painted ring around it to stop light scatter in a reflector (does not have the cutoff shield of a projector). My first kit came with a d2s bulb - designed for projectors and does nto have this ring. Initially, I attributed the glare to the lack of this ring. I purchased another kit, which had the ring. Didn't help one bit. I learnt that this is only for motorists driving towards you, so they can't see the light source when driving passed the headlight from the side. I have tried different brands of bulbs to no avail. What you'll notice, is that aftermarket xenons are like a placebo effect. You think that they're fully sick and heaps brighter because they're so white, and yes, they have the potential to be brighter. Once you see all the light scattered all over the place and how little actualyl gets ontot he road, imo, waste of time. Halogen projectors are no better. Installing the kit into an r32 projector was ok in the cutoff department - that is, no scatter. But, the light output compared to an accord euro or a lexus gs300 - when parked next to each other, was like night and day. Once again, stick with oem.
