id love to put a new to4z on it, but im in adelaide! The defect capital. Stealthy low mounts are a must, and even then they can still catch you out if they want to. yeah all signs pointing to 2530's.. SK tells me he's seen 400awkw from a stock capacity 2.6l on pump i believe. Even so, would you say 380plus at the wheels will be a gimme on a 2.8??
-
Fitzpatrick Speed Works: when you say the car was awesome, do you recall the rpm's when the thing came alive? Driftspec32, i recently watched that english GTR documentory where they get that 'ring meister guy to drive some cars, and at the end hes saying that the race r34 uses the 2.8 capacity and enjoys great benefit. R31Nismoid, the car is for street, with occasional drag and circuit, but very occasional. So far im yet to see solid results of 2.8L with GTRS, so if i dont hear anything good, i will play it safe and use the GT2530's. Sydneykid reckons theres 400+awkw to be had, which sounds awesome, and end of the day id rather have a more useable 400 than a less usable and possibly frustrating 460 or whatever! Even tho they are old now, the 2530's are still very highly regarded, almost seems like i cant go wrong with them!
-
thanks for that gav! im slowly getting some good info together. Would smaller cams like some poncams change the spool up by much?? So on a 2.6L with GTRS's your basically waiting for 5grand before you start to get really moving! Power does hold nicely right up to 8grand tho. Who's graph is that? ~360rwkw at only ~1.25bar not bad! HKS show these things running at 1.8bar, that would be nuts. The compressor surge you mentioned, isnt that to do with the turbo trying to pump more than the engine can swallow? could be alleviated with a 2.8?
-
yes they are available, cant help you with part numbers tho sorry.. if for some reason you want more out of the rods, aside from the usual linishing and shotpeening you can cryo treat them.
-
hi roy, no way this is for the GTSt, it has enought trouble getting the power down as it is! Its for the GTR. I was just going to build a nice responsive streeter but i might end up slapping some GTRS's on it and 700ps+. Is anyone running GTRS's on a rb26 on here? please point me in the right direction if they are, as a search hasnt given me any results. Plenty of GTSS info although these will be too small on a 2.8..
-
ok, so far determined that these kits are great, but just as expensive. TURBO SELECTION FOR A 2.8Litre!! my ideas are; GTSS, too small, run out of puff early and probably boost too early?? GTRS not sure, could they be just about right with a 2.8? Ahh the good ol 2530's (which i have now). While rated the same 320ps as GTSS's, arent the 2530's in between the GTSS and GTRS's somewhere?? 380rwkw would be great. stick with 2530's?? its a street car primarily, with odd track days. So response and useable torque are important. any thoughts appreciated, cheers guys
-
haha, only live once, exactly! what turbos you going to run brad? i wish Gav would build his motor quicker so he can tell me how responsive GTRS's are with a 2.8!!
-
a stock rebuild is going to cost more than your GTR. With a bit of chasing if the kit can be bought at a good price then i think its worth it. Im only building a street car and looking for around 600+ so nothing huge, but apart from the extra benefits of the stroker kit, i want to do it because its different to the guy down the road with the rebuilt 26 or the other 50 guys down the road who are building or planning to build 3litres.
-
exactly it depends on where you get it from as to what you actually get in the "kit". for those of you building or running 2.7/2.8 strokers, what compression ratio are you using? Id have thought in the above examples, the higher the better, ie 8.7:1, that would really maximise the response and get the turbos going early.
-
hi mik, ive found that depending on who supplys the kit, most kits come with rods. The only place i found that sold the kit with no rods is Xspeed in Perth. so is a 12 counter better than an 8 counter? I dont know a whole lot about cranks and only since investigating these kits was the first time id ever heard of a full counterweight crank.
-
To quote Tomei on their 2.8 counter weight crank: "Only 200cc displacement up. It causes dramatic change to RB26. Change is super response and big torque." As i mentioned earlier, the 200cc extra must make more of a difference than most people would think.
-
pete, i see what you mean. but surely there are other diff's than just some piston coating to justify the extra $$? i heard or read somewhere that step1 and 2 cranks are forged counter, whereas step 3 is full billet crank like the JUN one previously mentioned?? not exactly sure..
-
i got funny looks carrying on some springs flying domestic, imagine the looks when they run a fat crank through the scanner! haha Main problem with that idea for me is that i wouldnt have the time to go over there! But youve got me thinking.. i know guy whos just moved there.
-
thanks for the RELEVANT post pnblight! I was just about to go for the stage 2 kit, then remembered that customs will make me pay 25% on top of that cost (10%gst + 15% duty)! Might it slip through?? most probably not, as apparently they are shipped in a reasonably sized wooden crate, and the declaration from nengun (or whoever) will state the value of the parts.. Now youve got me thinking about the step 1 kit. In true Jap fashion it is likely to be underrated. If a combination of stock crank, average quality upgrade rods and pistons can support 600PS, then surely the HKS 'baby' kit can handle 700+ps. I would think they would quote for an extremely long reliable service life supporting 600ps, perhaps circuit car reliable, in which case under street conditions should easy support more. Any thoughts on this??
-
jees dudes, how many times do i have to mention that i dont give a crap what rb30's are doing! this a f'n stroker thread!
-
Extra stress on the bearings?? we are talking going from 2.6 to 2.8 here, and some of that capacity is gained from the overbore! And you are dealing with a crank that is MORE balanced than the stocker, so id say without the nasty harmonics or vibrations that ive heard people talk about, wouldnt there be less stress on the bearings than a stock rb26 crank (at the same rpm)? as sydneykid has explained, the square 3litres "have superior rod/stroke ratio (1.79) to RB26s' (1.65), this means less side loading on the rods and the crank." BUT, as i originally posted i dont want another 3litre thread so lets talk no more of it, i want Jap stroker crank experiences here
-
my recommendation would be to sell the 2510, save a tiny bit more money and get the 2535 as suggested. It is far better matched to a RB25. The 2510 will be very punchy and great around town, but be prepared to have a asthmatic top end. Throttle response when your pushing hard through corners will be unsettling to say the least. Just ask Sydney Kid whom no-one can disagree with
-
thanks champions! that is a gorgeous looking crank! Im just about to source a 2.8 for myself, but running GT2530's. Where are you located Gav? would be great to see your GTRS results and especially how the motor feels at those high revs.
-
well lets forget about the price for a moment, i want to hear from anyone whos experienced one. Officially (not counting internet purchases direct from Japan) HKS australia has sold only six 2.8L kits in the whole of Australia. Would love to hear from one of these owners!
-
well the stroke is only a bit longer, but im guessing that the improvements in torque, driviability and turbo response is more than you'd expect for only 200cc extra, or why bother making the kit?
-
Has anyone used this or know of anyone who's used it? Or any experiences with other Japanese full counter balanced cranks? For the price id expect it to be pretty special.. any comments appreciated. I am aware that a 3litre can be built for similar money so lets keep comments on the stroker kits and Jap brand counter balanced cranks! cheers

thanks for that chris

What Is Wrong With Adjustable Arms
SLY33 replied to Sydneykid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
hey gary, sorry to be off topic but im having trouble sending you a pm. inbox full? cheers! -
I needed one too since the car was repainted the as the original got wrecked after removal. do you know anyone else with a 33? Take a pic of their placcard, go home, open up MS Word, insert table, copy figures, print onto glossy adhesive paper, print and stick into door jam. Mine looks sweet. Can hardly tell it from an original. Id send you the file but dont have it anymore.

chasing some stock GTR rims, especially 33, but 34 also.
