  1. sorry, getting confused here. Ok, i've had this convo about rb30 na blocks before with several knowledgable ppl. Everyone says the s1 rb30 block doesnt have tapped holes for oil and doesn't have the machined surface.. but the same ppl have seen a few s1 blocks with tapped holes.
  2. I'd say the turbo block that doesn't have the machined surface would be a series 1 turbo block.
  3. Just have a look under the block number, easy sorted.
  4. I have a VL na S2 block and it looks like this. Now I know that VLT and VL na S2 blocks are the same but if you look under the engine block number it will have a number. 6=na 8=turbo mines a 6
  5. When using an RB30 you need to be careful what one you use as there is two types, an hitachi and another type, this applies to VL not sure about R31 tho. The hitachi is rated at 70amps.
  6. The bottom end is due to go into the workshop next week when the rods n pistons arrive. Only had the bottom end for 2 weeks, I want to drive it now! :burnout:
  7. Does anyone know or will I need to do my own research to find out.
  8. I have done a search, looked through the FAQ section and havent been able to find any information that says that S1 parts can be used on s2's and vice versa. What I want to know is. 1. Can a S1 coil loom and engine loom be used with s2 coils. I'm using new splitfire coils for a S2 and the s1 plugs dont fit. 2. The coil cover has an ignitor on the top, at the back. This is a series 1 part?. Looking on the underside I noticed it has 10/94. 3. Are there different versions of PFC's for each series? On the side it has these numbers. PFC RB25 9910-0035 4. Is there any markings on the head to identify what series it is? The guy I bought the engine off said it was a S2, but after finding the coil plugs not fitting onto the S2 coils I need to know exactly what I have.:slap: I thought I'd better sort this grey area out before i buy any more wrong series parts.
  9. Yes that helps alot Sydneykid, and thanks alot for your help. The people who I have asked about this have suggested a turbosmart 45mm wastegate. So i guess there recommendations are very close to yours. My exhaust manifold has 38mm piping for the wastegate, will this need to be replaced with 45/48mm piping? Does anyone make a 48mm wastegate? Thanks again. :wavey:
  10. Engine hasn't been built yet but will be built to handle over 600hp. Boost level would be no more than 25 psi, that's if it needs to go that high to achieve the power. The engine is being built to withstand the psi and hp. The bottom end will have forgies and after market rods, oringed block etc...
  11. It's time to buy the wastegate for the GT35R, the motor's a RB30DET using a power fc and boost controller. The GT35R has a 0.82 exh, it's rated at 700 hp. I'm using a high mount SS exh manifold suited for an external wastegate. WIll the 38mm gate be ok or should I be using a 45mm one? :boinkcar:
  12. Thanks for the info Joel. I'll start with getting the block pressure tested and cleaned, it's no loss if it's no good it was free after all. :cooldance What over size pistons and rings did you guys use?. I'm looking at the arias RB30E forged pistons to suit the twin cam conversion, but they only come in 20 thou as I know of. I'd rather have the bores bored out to a minimum to keep the cylinder walls as thick as possible just for peace of mind. Does anyone know what the size of a virgin bore is? and can it be measured easily? :Pimp2:
  13. Bl4cK32, What was done to your engine to get the extra 0.1 Litre? bored cylinders?.
  14. Yesterday I picked up a VL S2 RB30E bottom end for free. It was striped down and I found it to be in good condition, even the Nissan bearings were hardly worn. The girdle looks to be very similar to an RB26 one as SK has said before. Attached are some pics.
  15. Thanks SK. Once again you have made things loud n clear.
  16. Hi Guys, I have a major concern about the rb30 bottom end. What problems would 600 hp + rb30's have with respect to the bottom end, you guys have pretty much covered pistons, rods and crank but what about the main caps?. The RB26 uses a girdle intergrated with the main caps?, The rb30 main caps look no where strong as the RB26. Nizpro made a 600hp RB30DET which they made up a billet girdle/main caps similar to an RB26, this looks so much stronger than standard. I've only ever seen this done to an RB30 once, have u guys seen these kind of mods done to other RB30's?
  17. Yes i would like to know too. What eagle rods and what mods need to be done and who can do them.
  18. Hi, I'm new to the forum and must say that this thread is oustanding, credit goes to everyone who has contributed. I recently picked up a r33 GTST with a blown bottom end and after reading this thread i know what bottom end i'll be using. I have purchased a GT3040 (0.82 exh ) to go with the new engine. I have a question. What parts will fit into the RB25DET head from a GTR head?, I have read in another thread that it's possible to use GTR cams in an RB20.
