Borg Warner EFR Series Turbo's V 2.0
HarrisRacing replied to Piggaz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'm in the states and can do back to back 8374 vs twin EFR if you want to make me a smoking deal on a setup... [emoji6] -

Yep. I'm fighting the 9180 urge daily...but i do think a 8374 is perfect for 2.6-2.8L streetcar. -

I got my new ecu master black in yesterday. I also have the road rage gauge here in box and sensor. I'll be wiring it up and starting tuning this weekend hopefully. I'll keep you posted on speeds. I was out of I/O on the platinum and freed them up on the emu. -

was PP. Just sold it... moving to ecu master black. I did not like haltechs closed loop boost control. I think in the 30-35% duty on the dual port wastegate actuator at 28hz to hit 20 psi with the 4 port mac valve. -

While we are on the subject. What is the fastest someone has gone in the 1/4 on the stock 32 or 33 gears? I'm truly wondering what these boxes will take. I grit my teeth everytime I launch my car and it's still hanging in there (for now) -

Fastest Pumpgas Street Skylines
HarrisRacing replied to HarrisRacing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
E85 is only available at select areas here. I'm trying to see a comparison of how I'm running compared to others with pump gasoline. US 93 or RON98 please. It's well known that the sky is the limit on E85 - because it's 85% alcohol and only 15% gasoline (which begs the question if it's actually pump GAS). There is validity to this question because making power on 93/98 gasoline has significantly lower limitations of knock etc. I'm assuming the big displacement cars will generally be faster in this category. -
Fastest Pumpgas Street Skylines I'm running 93 octane USA fuel which I think is equivalent to RON98 and am curious what some of the fastest full-body, full interior, full accessory (PS, AC etc) skylines are running. I'm trying to get a benchmark for my setup. I'm currently on 20 psi boost and think that it will tip 130 mph soon and be in the high 10's on 255 hankook RS3 tires now that my boost control issue seems sorted. Curious what target numbers are out there. If you have some pumpgas (non-E85, non-racegas, non-WMI) time and mph runs please post them here. Thank You, Patrick Here's my last time at the track with bad boost control (spike, pull timing and boost, then slowly recover). 60' = 1.772 330 = 4.837 1/8 mile = 7.363 @ 99.14 1/4 mile = 11.288 @ 126.26

Borg Warner EFR Series Turbo's V 2.0
HarrisRacing replied to Piggaz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I think the next thing I would do is vcam on my setup...to get idle quality back and pickup a bit on top end...maybe run redline to 8500. Moving the cams 8deg closer made a monster difference in torque. If i were clean slating my setup again i would go dual efr full-race setup in addition to that! -

FYI. You will make INSANE torque with that setup. I would not be surprised to see full boost by 3000 rpms with that setup, but you'll likely be overspinning turbo past 7k. Be careful. A 9180 will fit it better. Actually I'm thinking of going 9180 in mine now to chase more pumpgas numbers. -

Moved to Haltech OPEN loop boost control. NONE, ZERO, NO PROBLEMS holding target boost, NO overshoot. Actually It's PERFECT really. I may have lost 2-300 rpm threshold in some lower gears but I'll build a "boost by gear" table for it. HOLY SMOKES this car HAS to have 130 mph in it on pumpgas (US 93)! Excited to make it back to the track soon. Hoping the weather holds up. Last runs were 126.2 mph with boost dropping all the way down to 16 psi and slow climb back to 20 psi. It should be a rocket now. -

Mine is sideways. Touches the hood every now and then on hard launch. Going to turn it down soon because of that. -

I like the extension. I think that will help me as well as my #1 runner is approximately 1.5" away. Good idea there. I prematurely went to the track and it was a disaster. Had no time to pretune the wastegate settings and it got ugly when my laptop died (brought wrong charger). It was either run low boost OK or spike and drop. Look at the two attached log screenshots. "Run2" is an 11.28 at 125 mph where the target boost is 20. P=30 I=3 D=1. The boost spikes, controller pushes boost way low to compensate...then gradually picks it back up to target. No ignition advance issues there but look at the amount of time in 3rd gear (4th is almost exactly the same) off of target boost! 2.5 second each gear which is KILLING my power. This car picks up about 60-75 whp from 17 psi to 20...you could totally feel it. "Run3" was different target setting of 21 psi...but also different P setting of P=50. All other parts the same (including base duty cycle). Spikes to 22...cuts timing drops boost, comes back in and repeats. 11.5 at 120.7mph. But what did I expect there with boost AND timing being pulled? So then shortly after my laptop died and no more logs and no real resultant changes. When i get this car to hold solid 20 psi I believe it's going to go 10s and 130mph on 93 pumpgas (your RON98 I believe) and 255 street tires. I'm so close...stupid boost control issues holding me back! Best mph of day was on a [email protected] again boost spike plagued...no logs available as the laptop died, but I saw the knock light. Once I get this sorted I think the car has a 10 sec pass at 130 mph in it on pump with no meth. Can't wait to see what meth and /or E85 has for it. -

I bought the full race one. Initial thoughts are that i did not think to reset my frequency! I think I'm on 28Hz and had big trouble getting boost stabilized. Thank you for saying that I'll work on it more before u report back. But good news is it will run as low as 13-14 psi and spools harder to 22 psi than ever before. 22.5 psi boost hit at 3600 rpms this time with 100% duty. Still pissed the haltech controller always runs 100% until 7.3 psi before target boost level. I still have an initial boost control spike issue. But yes way lower duty cycles to hit same boost so far. (EDIT - ATTACHED LOG FILE SCREENSHOTS! LOOK AT THAT BOOST THRESHOLD IN THIRD!!!). -

HarrisRacing replied to Piggaz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Boost solenoid and wastegate were factory EFR. To bring the turbo in hard I had to put 8 or so turns of preload...any less and it would hurt spool time. I set this by pulling wastegate nipple and seeing where it would crack in 3rd gear. Initially I gained 700 rpms of threshold by tightening the arm. At low preload the HIGH boost wastegate actuator will blow open on my setup before target (high backpressure I'm assuming). It was not creeping but instead would linearly fall off of boost from there and I used haltech boost control to feed in duty almost linearly to keep boost up. Once this was set I started having the spike on shift where nothing would keep up (mechanically) unless I lowered preload. There was a sweet spot to run 19 or so psi pretty stable with 21 psi spikes, but to run 20 pushed me into 22-23 psi spikes (even with 0 duty cycle at those rpms as well as TPS compensated tables). So...Goeff recommended the turbosmart actuator and 4 port. Said you can multiply base boost by around 3-4x with 4 port but he said be careful with duty cycles. BOV cover is treadstone (cheap). Nothing other than replaces the plastic cover which can break with something pretty. It seems fine for a "dumb" piece of aluminium. -

New updates coming. Fyi once i got boost to 20-21 psi it would spike to 22-23 and drop to 17-18. Couldn't solve it in the controller. Turbosmart dual port and 4 port solenoid installed last night. Will retune today. -

I'm really thinking the stroker geometry and slow top end piston speed must REALLY like more overlap than I was giving it with these small Poncam A's and straight up cam timing. I just drove it again...damn car is an ANIMAL! I can not wait to try another 1/4 mile run in it! I can only imagine what a 3.2 with V-cam would be like!!! -

Also it should be noted that from a 2k rpm pull on the street in 3rd gear this turbo will make 15 psi at 3600 rpms right now. -

More dyno fun. Finally moved my cam gears on the dyno. Spent 4 hours there yesterday (on a dynocomm inertial - which will soon be eddy brake). I now see what a V-cam would do for you. Moving my Poncam A's closer together (ie-more overlap) yielded undeniable tq gains with no appreciable drop in top end power (my 3" exhaust could be holding me back). I think it liked 8 total degrees of CRANK overlap (2 notches off from '0' on each cam) the best (Advanced intake 4, Retarded exhaust 4), but we did run add another 2 deg (crank) to the intake to bring it to 6 deg intake advance and 4 deg exhaust advance and this is where it stayed (for now). Super choppy idle now, but damn this car pulls like CRAZY now. makes 3 more psi boost at 4k rpms. When I compared 20 psi runs with cams set at 0 the tq goes to the stratosphere. Look at the differences from 4500 rpms to 7k! At 22 psi high number is now 653 whp and 515 wtq but boost control was shakey on these runs (oscillating from 22 down to 18). It is making 300 WHP at 4k rpms on 20 psi...on 93 octane pumpgas! This is my 8374 EFR .92 IWG on a stock-bore 79mm BC stroker FYI.
