  1. Hey Colin? Does your engine stuttering present similar to this YouTube clip?
  2. This comment is spot on - change one thing at a time. I'd still like to know what works for you in the end, mostly because I once had the same issue from your description (sorted now though).
  3. Stuttering in my car happened while driving during the first few minutes of warm up only. Has not happened since I filled with edge 0w40 a few months ago.
  4. To stop the engine stuttering with a cold engine, try running Castrol Edge 0w40 oil. Worked 100% for me! (I had engine stuttering with both Castrol Edge 5w40 and Mobile 1 0w40 - the only other oils I have used in the vq35hr) The theory has something to do with oil density switching the VVT on just a bit to early ie during the 2-3 minute warm up mark. These engines aren't supposed to use VVT until xxx operating temperature, and are apparently fussy on oil choice. I personally also recommend OEM filters (get them from Nissan for the 350/370z) to ensure flow rates and relief valve pressures are correct. Anyway there is a massive mamojam thread over here: http://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/307878-sputtering-during-warm-up-32.html As for your slow engine cranking - I'd think battery first and starter motor second. I'd like to hear what works out for you eventually!
  5. All good man we are all on the same team here. The koso mini guage fits into the ashtray well and I'll be able to close it flush when I eventually get around to a permanent install. I prefer dial type (still digital tho) guages as they don't jump around as much as digital numbers, but hidden neatly in the ashtray is perfect. I doubt an extra o ring is needed - I torqued the adapter down to 35Nm. Its a good solid oring also. Mishimoto specs their adapter at 47Nm. Oil filters are approx 10Nm. So far no leaks at all and I did use tape on the sensor thread also. I imported with 47000km so not expecting probs anytime soon, I'm just a bit proactive like that. Its a small percentage of cars that problem happens to, and I bet good maintenance will help. I also think not flogging cold engines and sending oil pressures sky high would be a good idea.
  6. All good Max, not a problem at all. Yes I put in a sensor opposed to a switch so I could get a digital readout on engine 'health' for the lack of a better word. I only asked a few questions to find out what the frig you were talking about lol. Merry NisMas all
  7. Do you think replacing the switch with a sensor and running the gauge from there would be a better option. Is there any downside to this method or is it just better all round by not having to use a sandwich plate?
  8. Yes that's right it's supposed to supplement the factory one. Could probably install the new sensor in place of the switch but I'm not sure how the computer would respond. The 350z and 370z have guages from factory but the v35 and v37 missed out on this
  9. For me its just double insurance against any internal gasket failure..Oil pressure is critical for any engine. Even my dirty ol VE Holden V6 had a proper oil pressure sensor from factory which anyone can read from an OBDII device. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/99607-zed-owners-must-read-p0011-p0021-caused-by-oil-gallery-gaskets/ http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/92590-hr-potential-oil-pressure-problem/page__st__40
  10. No probs, it took some effort to find the right parts (and a good price) so this could save others some time. The sandwich adapter: http://www.shadowmotor.com.tw/en/product/Honda-R18A-K24A/SW40020.htmlthese guys referred me to: http://shiftperformance.com.au/to purchase from. Its not listed on shiftperformance website so will need to email them. $64 delivered This was the difficult part to find as most sandwich adapters are to large for our stock oil filters. Koso mini 3 oil pressure: http://japan.webike.net/products/21345818.html All parts included. About $130 delivered. Most other places advertise this around the $260 mark. Also has adjustable low pressure warning. The stock oil pressure switch for VQ35hr/VQ37vhr apparently only activates at around 5psi - far to low and has probably already caused damage by this stage. All up pretty cheap insurance to monitor engine health
  11. So i have installed the adapter plate and pressure sensor. Haven't installed the gauge inside the cabin yet - but I did hook it up temporarily to check oil pressure. Minimum spec is 14psi @ idle, and 43psi @ 2000rpm. Mine read 20psi @ idle and 55psi @ 2000rpm so all good Hmmm can't find how to post a pic now....weird because I did in the first post?
  12. Finally found a suitable sized oil plate sandwich so I can install the mini oil pressure sensor.. Hopefully get around to doing this soon - given the time of year and all. I'll post some photo's as I go.
  13. If its urgent try your Nissan dealer. Will probably have to pay a premium though. My Nissan guys in Indooroopilly, QLD have been great, even looking up part numbers for Japan for me. Other option is to rebuild your current one at a repair shop. Good luck.
  14. Google translate from the play store works great. Take a photo of the kanji and convert it to English
  15. Great, thank you for the tip off - I ordered mine today. Strange the rear door switch trims are double the price. They can stay as is, pretty good condition anyway. I had a look for the steering wheel plastic trim but couldn't find it on amayama. Anyone else been able to find this part?
  16. This didn't work for me, I tried and it played up funny. Can't quite remember either it didn't show anything up, or it went veeerrry slow. Genuine CF card was the solution for me.
  17. That's a much better price then I have been able to find for the door inserts. Would you share where you got them from?
  18. I was just thinking about another staggered setup that would work, and has lots more brands and options to choose from also. Front: 235 50 18 Rear: 255 45 18 I've seen Sumitomo HTR ZIII around for about $200 each and get great reviews (I'll be looking at this next time). I steer clear of brands like Achilles, Nexen, Nankang etc, because in my experience they all have dangerously bad wet weather performance.
  19. I recently put tyres on mine also, but kept the staggered setup. Difficult to find a matching set due to the front size (I think Bridgestone re50's might have them but these do wear fast - I've had these on another car). So fronts I went Pirelli 225/50/18 https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/tyres/brands/pirelli/cinturato-p7?pid=77219 Rears Goodyear 255/45/18 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255-45-18-255-45-18-103Y-Goodyear-F1-Asymmetric-2-/251907341149?hash=item3aa6d8fb5d:m:mmH7PvzCFgl176NZJVrdmmA These were nearly 2 years old when they arrived, but balanced up great and hold pressure perfect. Considering $700 rrp not to bad. They took a bit longer to scrub in then usual probably due to the age, but after a 1000km or so they are good now. This setup gives almost equal 'buldge' front and back so looks good to me, but you can get this tyre in 245/45/18 also.
  20. Woohoo picked up one of these bluetooth OBDII from Jaycar and it works great http://www.jaycar.com.au/Automotive-%26-Mobile-Security/Car-Alarms,-Protection-%26-Accessories/Tracking-Fleet-Monitoring/READER-OBD2-BLUETOOTH-4-0-ENGINE-CODE/p/PP2145 It's branded 'response', part number PP-2145
  21. Not sure if v36 have a canister purge solenoid, but had one of these go on my VE. Started out intermittent but got more persistent over time. Easiest way to test is simply unplugging the power to it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SHwqGKj2njw http://www.samarins.com/glossary/purge-valve.html
  22. Does this ticking sound only happen about 1 min give or take after startup whether the engine is hot or cold? Eg if its ticking and you shut it off for a few seconds and start up again does it take another minute to start ticking again? BTW please let us know exactly which Bluetooth dongle from jaycar that would be awesome
  23. I use 'google translate' on my android phone (not sure if its made for iPhones). Just take a picture of the menu and it translates to English! Give it a go.
  24. Just remembered - I have a 2007 type S with sports brakes, so the part numbers for the pads may vary depending on your car.
  25. I imported my PV36 w/VQ35HR in Jan this year - great car. I keep a similar excel spreadsheet for all my cars/bikes, below is the one for my Nissan. Its pretty detailed with servicing info & part numbers etc - feel free to use it. https://mega.nz/#!Qw9RXQRB!NHI8mu6yoQqq74xHki_kJw9QYcit1XhsosyNFqr5ksw
