  1. There's also no tube frame vehicles (like sport sedans) allowed. I don't see a problem with engine swaps from any manufacturer. I thought the battle between the lightweight Lotii, the heavy hitting GTRs and the in-between EVOs keeping them honest was great. I think the rules were pretty good. I'd like to see semis in Clubman class though. It was basically an Evo-fest at the top of Clubman. They have a big advantage anytime there is low grip conditions. Semis would have evened that up a bit for the 2wd vehicles in Clubman, although I think that would have made John faster in his Clubman vehicle than the Open car he drove!
  2. Personally i don't mind who drives in clubsprint. I like the challenge and competition. But I can also understand the school of thought that Clubsprint should be for the club level competitor. I don't think any of the other drivers in Clubsprint would have got that S2000 within cooee of John's time. Maybe a seperate trophy for outright owner/driver would make both camps happy? I'm glad I made the trip down to have a run there. I only went to have some fun driving round Oran Park before it closed in a very standard Supra, and mission accomplished - I had a hoot out there! Can't say the same for my left rear tyre though - lard-arse Supra vs 265/35 Federal 595SS = no contest. I ended up less than half a second away from the 3rd place 6cyl in Clubsprint and a solid midfield 17th outright, so I'm pretty pleased with that,. oh, and outright fastest Supra lol. I came away from the event very keen to get the Datto haulin as best as i can for next year's event. Vote 1 for Lakeside Superlap!!! Well done to everyone who competed (well except those responsible for the epic fails - tail-ending another car and pit lane stupidity) and some great driving at the pointy ends of both fields were great to watch! Already looking forward to a bigger and better 2009 Superlap! Congrats to the organisers for gettig this concept off the ground over here. I'm sure they learnt heaps from the first event and it will only improve from here.
  3. you're right. it was a masterful crash. great drive hamo!
  4. yeah he drove great - if you forget about his crash into the armco which forced a pitstop straight afterwards, and through other circumstances actually setup his race win. Drove well? No, lots of luck with circumstance - very lucky he wasn't out of the race early on with that slap into the armco. And lucky circumstances played into his hands later in the race with his now full tank of fuel, umm, "strategy"
  5. I was always under that impression too, that late model road registered cars didn't need a secondary fastening system. But the CAMS general requirements (Schedule B number 1) says otherwise http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/general/0...le_A_B_Q308.pdf Looks like it might be a change as its bold and underlined. I made a trip to Bunnings last night, bought some plastic sheathed 3mm wire rope, a couple of clamps and a turnbuckle link and made something similar. I'm not drilling anything - looped the wire around the rad support and clamped it, and the turnbuckle goes through a loop in the other end of the wire rope and will latch onto one of the strikers for the bonnet latches - the Supra has 2 factory strikers and catches on the bonnet so it may not have required this anyway. Took all of about 15 mintues to throw together and cost about $18, and $12 of that was the 10M coil of wire rope. If they had that on a reel sold by the meter it would have been almost $10 cheaper.
  6. Thanks Boz. I've still got the Datto mate. Looking forward to having a run at Lakeside in it now that the place is finally open again. Its an unreal track and only 10minutes from home Just have to quieten the Datto down a bit first...
  7. hey Chris, yeah sorry I missed you at Wakefield. Hopefully it will be a bit drier this weekend! Then again, a bit of rain would help slow the more powerful cars down a bit...
  8. well I just faxed my entry form in just running the Supra in Clubsprint class. Its nothing special, just want to have some fun at Oran Park before it closes and see some of these bad arse open cars in action. See you guys there!
  9. cage won't be a problem for supersprints in my experience. it certainly looks to be a very well built cage, but can't really see what's going on with the rear half to tell if it matches CAMS drawings. obviously don't know what material is either. That will only be a potential problem if you want to go circuit racing in future. is it a good buy? $15k for race use only and not alot of details about what its got... If its got a strong, built engine its probably OK value. But it certainly isn't a bargain. If you're buying it with intentions of throwing in a turbo engine, it's even less of a bargain. Add in the price of a car trailer too. I'd still sell my 400bhp CA18DET 1200 coupe racecar for $19K - and you wouldn't build its engine for that! and its only $4K more than the silvia.
  10. They've got the dates on their website now: Jun 14 | Aug 10 | Sep 21 | Oct 19
  11. I've got the dates at home... There's another 3 rounds before they close down at the end of Oct for the refurb. btw, I picked up the latest MOTOR mag yesterday. They thrashed some new cars around Lakeside as part of PCOTY. I think they had Warren Luff driving them: Porsche GT2 0:58.5 Loyus Elise SC 1:02.0 STi Spec R 1:02.9 C63 AMG 1:03.3 XR6T 1:03.6 BMW 135i 1:03.8 Morgan 1:03.9 my goal for the next event is that Suba's time! Can't have a stock Suba knocking me off on my home track
  12. looks like a great hillclimb track! Shame its so far from me, but I'd be tempted to make the trip down for that when the AHC goes there.
  13. not a bad result for the GTST. Craig Hornibrook's Commodore and Dave Homer's turbo Suzuki are pretty hard runners. Always a good day if you can mix it up with them.
  14. good weather for it yesterday - the air was cool but the sun was nice and warm. We all got 4 sessions despite a number of incidents. Tetly told us that part of the plans for the track refurb in October is to "change the cambers" on the track, which in my opinion will ruin the place. The camber changes through the corners (particularly the exit of Caruosell and Hungary's) are a huge part of the character of the place and what makes it such a challenging track. Flattening out those camber changes will only detract from the place. It might make it safer for novices, but its a racetrack FFS. Its supposed to challenge you a bit. I ran a best of 1:03.5 which I'm pretty happy with for a standard Supra with Teins, exhaust and pod on Federal road tyres. I haven't seen the full results yet. Can't wait to get the Datsun out there and see what it can do.
  15. Like I said before, I was comparing it to other events I've done since it re-opened, really nothing to do with Monday's event. but glad to hear you guys had fun and the timing gear all came together for you a couple of days before the event.
  16. you and me both. shame its registered cars only, but the Supra will still be plenty of fun on road tyres!
  17. mate, that only happened at the last minute - it wasn't planned to be a timed event.
  18. nothing like some healthy paranoina. third party meant just that - an organiser other than QR. There's more than just mountainrunner running track days there. I've paid similar amounts with rennen motorsport who ran the first track day there after it re-opened. They limited it to about 30 cars so we had heaps of track time - too much if you ask me. But because it wasn't timed we were allowed passengers, so that was a great chance to take the gf out on the track to see why its so addictive. It was worth it to get back out on that awesome track after so long, even though I was one of the lucky few to get a flat out blast around there in my GTR during its closure it was still a long time between drinks. but since then I've been waiting for an actual sprint event, and figured it would be around the same price, so $99 came as a very nice surprise if you ask me. I'll always take a timed sprint over a track day anytime. I know there's alot of people who just want to get out there and have fun, but for me the whole point of going to a racetrack is to see just how quick you can get your car around that track, so a time devent is always more challenging and more fun. btw 180km of Lakeside would be about 74 laps unless the track suddenly got alot longer.
  19. never stopped you before! <cough>magna<cough>
  20. well here it is, the first sprint at Lakeside since its re-opening. And its only $99 for pre-paid entries. That's half of what we've been paying to get on the track through a couple of third parties running untimed track days there. Registered cars only for some reason. Get into it! http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/lakesi...ints/index.html
  21. it is a fun and technical little track. should suit the radical pretty well - they're just a slightly bigger go-kart! I've made the trip down there (from Bris) a couple of times. And the locals are really friendly and helpful - even when they have to come and drag you of a tyrewall on the far side of a woodchip "gravel trap" after that little S bend over a crest...
  22. yeah, good stuff. looks like a fun track. I like to see a bit of the steering wheel in in-car footage - tells you a bit more about what's happening.
  23. I may as well put my times in here since there's a 300ZX and a Silvia in the QR Sprint top 10 SAU Nickname: hrd-hr30 Car Make and Model: Datsun 1200 Circuit Name: QLD Raceway Sprint circuit Lap time: 58.23 Modifications Engine: CA18DET, HKS GTRS @ 22psi Power: 230rwkw Suspension: coilovers, Konis, camber, reversed eye leafs Tyres: Toyo RA1 Brakes: 300ZX 4 spots Body weight: ~900kg? there seems to be a problem with the template - where do I put my excuses??? overheating, miss-firing, only 15psi, turbo falling off, but still passing GTRs
  24. yep, managed to drive up the bank on the exit of a nice simple open corner, and barrell-rolled off the top... it probably was still driveable, but the driver had had enough!
  25. love the old Stanza rally car! Just don't do what i did... (QRC round in 2004)
