  1. that basically covers what they were concerned about. I had been meaning to get to it anyway purely from an aesthetics point of veiw. There are regs that mandate this even in Sport Sedans: 3.7(ii) When front door trim is removed, it must be replaced with a flush-fitting rigid material, save that local modifications are permitted to facilitate fitment of roll over bar and anti-intrusion bars.
  2. I got pinged for not having door trim and the possible injury hazard at last years Autralian Hillclimb Championships. I had to make a temporary door card out of cardboard and re-present to scrutineering. They were only concerned about the drivers door. You are allowed to cut/modify the door cards and interior trim to clear roll cage members.
  3. with turbos on them too I'm guessing??? how does that fit into prod sports? I always thought they had to run the original engine? Marque sports was the "anything goes" category for sports cars... guess it must have changed...
  4. no doubting they're quick, but they can't possibly be Prod Sport spec!
  5. thanks mate. I'm thinking of pulling the ads actually. got a better paying job starting next week and looks like there's a bit of overtime to be had as well, so I think I'll just tighten the belt for a few months and keep the 1200. Might not be able to play until later in the year though...
  6. I think you'll be alright. 'floorpan vehicles' have to be based on the standard floorpan rather than a spaceframe chassis. tick. 4.2 says that in this case the floorpan is deemed to be the chassis. 4.2 (vii) says "the chassis, sub-frame and all body components other than the shape of the external coachwork are free." unless there's a seperate section for awd vehicles that overrides this rule, but I don't see one. log book it now in case the eligibility rules do change! Doesn't need to be finished or inspected to be log-booked.
  7. well I guess we'll see when SK takes his GTST to Superlap? only issue will be putting a reasonable $ value on his suspension development work on his own car, and approximate $ values of the GTRs there... how hard can that be? :lol
  8. the GTR vs GTST thing may be true for sprints, but for hillclimbs my money would be on the GTR. Over a short standing start course, the AWD start line advantage is hard to reel in. Particularly because the tracks are generally tight and you're on cold tyres. Its all in favour of the awd cars. At Mt Cotton for example, my old R32 GTR with only pods, exhaust, Mines ECU, Bee*R bovs, and 0.9bar on standard ceramic turbos ran 46.24 on puny little 225/50*16 RE55S on standard rims. I can't quite match that in my fully stripped, caged, 230rwkw 900kg Datsun race car which also runs 225/50 tyres. And I drove the GTR to the event and back with the air on and CDs playing... Admittedly a GTST has more sophisticated suspension than my Datto and should be able to put a bit more power down because of it, but can it be done for the cost of my GTR, $20K? Well my Datto is for sale for less than $20K, but you certainly couldn't build it for that. I've got alot of experience in rwd cars at Mt Cotton and can tell you it would need to be a pretty well sorted and well driven car to do it. You need good useable power, gearing that suits, and good handling to run anything like that time in a rwd car. I can only think of 2 rwd cars on semis that have ever done better than my all-but-standard GTR and they're both highly developed IPRA cars. For comparison: 2007 Australian Hillclimb Championship Results (incl records)
  9. 56.32 is damn fast! what tyres? do you do the SAS?
  10. if you aren't running massive revs and heavier valve springs there's no real need for anything other than a standard replacement belt. but do it right and get a kit with pulleys and seals (crank and camshafts) as well - seals are cheap and quick to replace, and tensioner and/or idler pulleys are insurance - if a bearing fails you may as well have not replaced the belt...
  11. would love to, but unless I find sponsorship it isn't going to happen...
  12. thanks guys. yep, 400hp and about 900kg does equal alot of smiles anytime you drive it. kinda hoping it doesn't sell and hopefully I'll get to use it again by the end of the year. so many places I want to take this car and get some laptimes. If I get the job I applied for last week, the car will definitely be coming off the market.
  13. unfortunately I've come across a spot of a cash-flow problem, and as a result my motorsport hobby is on hold and my track car is for sale (see link in sig) I don't know a cheaper way to get these kind of lap times - Wakefield 1:07.40, Mt Cotton 46.33 (under IPRA record), Conrod Supersprint 49.47 Not too late for someone to snap it up and enter Superlap...

  15. adding a spoiler on my old track 1200 coupe made a big diference. kept the rear end much more planted under the bridge at Lakeside, which is a fast sweeper with a few bumps in it. without the spoiler it would hop around and always get a little out of shape there. With the spoiler on, it was much nicer through that corner. you guys are talking about wings rather than spoilers though. a spoiler is attached to the body of the car across the full width of the device and air only flows over it, like on old school toranas. a wing has an element supported above the body of the vehicle and has airflow above and below it.
  16. Lofty could drive a wheelie bin my car to top 5 in this field!
  17. Loftus/BSM GTR. they've got a few runs on the board themselves: 2007 IPRA National Champion & multiple lap record holders for the category, including Oran Park GP.
  18. hmm, I don't even think the berry/newman/hi octane GTR is the favourite. their time's only 2 sec faster than a full steel, full glass, 27mm restricted, crap tyred IPRA car
  19. if you're building a post '86 model car, the Late Model regs allow you to penetrate the firewall with 2 members to the strut towers, but not through the rear bulkhead. Make sure you read sections 17 & 18 for all the additional freedoms & requirements for LM vehicles.
  20. yeah, I'd be interested as long as its timed. I'm trying to get the Datto back to IPRA specs for the QLD Hillclimb Championships at the end of May, but should be easy enough to whip out the restricor and upload the old tune back into it afterwards
  21. Nothing new about S2000 category internationally. And last year there were 2 Fiesta S2000 and One Corolla S2000 running ARC. Toyota are using the 3SGE. claimed 190kw/240nm 8500rpm limit. All S2000s use a control Sadev seq 6spd box/transfer
  22. a good/well sorted setup for semis won't neccesarily work on road tyres. you generally need a softer, less aggressive setup to get the best out of any kind of low grip condition - whether its caused by rain or tyres... as for power only making you faster even on street tyres - you've never seen lower powered cars further up the results in the wet?
  23. street tyres in Clubman class will be a big leveller. much like rain is normally. and setups that work well on semis don't necessarily work on road tyres.
  24. don't know if there is such a list of lap records. but here's a link to the IPRA Lap Record thread. http://www.techmasters.com.au/forum/viewto...p?f=3&t=271 Wayne's old record at Wakefield Pk was 1:06.1. bit surprising it didn't fall after the resurfacing. all the talk has been that the track is seconds faster now.
