  1. Wow - Definetely going to try this I was going to silicon mine and tape them up but this seems much easier Cheers! J
  2. Can we say Myth Busted yet guys?
  3. My brain hurts from reading this I think ill go have a lie down....
  4. Thanks I do plan on going back with a proper camera - and some gumboots lol
  5. The question is... Will it stand up to a drive through redfern??
  6. Found an awesome location and took some photos of mine and a mates (hes on here as mbs206) r33 on my camera phone - 3.2megapixel k800i 8) Car is dirty, cbf washed it as it will just rain again - plus the brake dust looks the goods imo
  7. For those who run with no coilpack cover, where do you put your ignitor module? I will take mine off to see if i can see sparks as well...
  8. At what rpm does the car jolt?
  9. How do you explain the equivalent of 650 1/4 mile runs on MANY Ford Sierra's running at Bathurst over 6 hours of an endurance race at 36+psi boost ? Or the worst punishment of over 2500 1/4 mile runs on the typical Le Mans endurace racer during a 24hr race again at very high boost ? There are many examples of cars that are far more highly stressed running the same old "shitty" turbos we use now days and not having ANY issues or instant failures. Please turbos cant and dont cavitate - this is rubbish - Cavitation is a non issue in an air system. In a fluid system cavitation happens when small air bubbles (in water) can be formed around the compressor due to a large pressure head or an overspeeding compressor for a certain flow capacity - both have absolutley nothing to do with an air based pumping system The resulting air bubbles explode against the surface and can eat away a whole compressor! The loads assosiated with WG only flutter are very very small (not enough to cause any adverse effects), that is why this was never an issue is years gone past, why is it only an issue now ? Using the reasoning that race cars throw away the turbo between races is all well and good, just remember how much "work" they are doing compared to your average street/drag car and you will see it far out strips any other motorsport situation. That is why they call em endurance cars Misleading marketing and value added sales are the biggest reasons, though this again is only my opinion and nothing more. I will choose to follow past history from the smartest brains in the world who proved their systems (in the toughest situations) rather than some hype rubbish printed in HOT4's for example End of the day do whats comfortable for YOU, justify it how you like so long as you are happy and think your making the best choice. If your going to be paranoid about not running a BOV then its not worth it for you.
  10. Either of the following Honda S2000 R32/R33 GTR Evo 4/5 S6-8 RX7
  11. Jase, before u shell out for coils let me try something on mine first and ill let u know if it works....going to try the silicon & tape trick Might just save us some $$
  12. Id go and try Bezerkly as jase said, southern motorworks or wild1motorsport
  13. Just had this same argument on another forum Ill copy and paste what i wrote Turbo failure due to no BOV is bullshit, it technically can not happen ! I challenge anyone to show me the numbers behind how this can happen. I will save you the effort, you cant You want to hear turbo flutter, you need to listen to one of these old school videos, sometimes you can just hear it over the exhaust especially on entry to a braking zone or in mid corner Blades bending back and shafts snapping is rubbish, air is very very light stuff and it physically cannot do any of this no matter how good peoples imagination is. Dont confuse this with a NOS or fuel system backfire which can blow a plenum apart, though they dynamics of this phenomenon has nothing at all to do with not running a BOV. History on turbo race machines proves it. Every International Group C sports car to 1991 NO BOV Every F1 car from 1979 to 1988 NO BOV Every Indy car from 1970 to NOW NO BOV DJR Group A Sierra till its last races NO BOV Porsche GT1 Top Gear - Listen to the flutter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LtkSCaE0EM There are shit loads of examples across many different classes running every type of turbo you care to mention running at the thermal/mechanical limits for massive durations of time (24hr races) at very very high pressure ratios never ever experience failures of the type some people on this board and BOV maufacturers mention is trash publications. I have a text (published in 1989) written by racecar engineering going into massive detail about only 1000bhp turbo F1 engines and NO WHERE do they mention the phenomenon that some people go on about. No where in history in motorsport do you see such failures due to not running a BOV, WHY ? Because its bullshit ! Plain and Simple You want a current example from Japan (the home of the BOV), find a down load of Rod Millens Toyota Tacoma truck (runs 1000bhp 4 cyl single turbo) and it runs NO BOV, turbo flutter in all its glory In the end it comes down to your own personal comfort level and personal feelings on a subject, if you cant or dont want to run just a WG then you need a BOV, but please dont come up with rubbish statements that not running one cause failures, history (current and past) and physics proves that no such things can happen. This is not an attack on anyone, its more a statement of facts as they relate to many examples from some of the most leading/respected race engine engineers of ALL TIME, from the greatest ever period of turbo charged race engines F1 from 1983 to 1987. BOV's are never mentioned as they were never required. Same in old publications like Turbochargers by Hugh McInnes, not one farking BOV mention in whole text ! They are a falicy of the highest order and people selling them are perpetuating lies by stating that they should be mandatory in high boost high HP applications. Complete and utter rubbish !!!!! In the nissan texts that i have read all the factory bov are used for is to muffle sound, nothing else /End Essay lol
  14. Very nice! Whats the difference between the aristo and the chaser? Or are they the same thing??
  15. Whats the intended use for all that power?? 350hp is no walk in the park, either is 500hp Id say go for 350 - would be more than enough on the road where you wouldnt even be able to use it anyway
  16. How does one install a dimmer switch?? My 33 doesnt have one either and the lights are just enough at night for me to see
  17. Did my car at the local wash place up the road from me and didnt notice any scratches on the paint - i used their brush The only pain was the wheels were still a bit dirty from where the brush didnt get into Cost me $4
  18. Its misfiring - check your plugs and coilpacks
  19. Yeah i agree with u there MunkyBoy - Have u tried upping your timing at all??
  20. Mine was hunting and used to stall so i ramped it up to around 850/900rpm just to be sure Hasnt stalled untill we started to get really hot weather - today is a bit cooler so the car is fine
  21. What ign timing is everyone running?? Maybe advancing or decreasing it slighty may help too?? There has to be a fix because not every 33 does it - my mates certainly doesnt and his only has basic mods too
  22. Hmm, something is seriously wrong then I presume you have tried all the usual diy stuff to try and remedy it?? Checked the voltages to the engine temp sensor?
  23. Yeah mine isnt all the time either I wonder if an aftermarket computer would help with the heat? The way i see it is that the car heats up on a HOT day, engine temp sensor is faulty and gives wrong temp, ignition timing retards way too much and we get the problem that we have - i could be wrong here but thats what i am led to believe
  24. Im not really sure to be honest Might swap it over with his for a week and see if it does the same Im even thinking about a vented carbon bonnet now Its really frustrating on a hot day having to start it at every set of lights then have the car backfiring all the time
  25. OMG mine does this too!! Its a pretty stock s1 - exhaust and filter are the only mechanical mods A mate said maybe the engine temp sensor could be to blame - i put new plugs, cleaned my afm and aac valve to try and fix it but no luck Will check the ignitor pack to see if it has good earth this weekend Any other suggestions??
