This is a bit odd. My family work in both light and commercial aviation, and no wreck is considered "not repairable". If it is cheaper to fix than replace, it will gey fixed. (this includes planes that crash into trees and have the wings ripped off) So long as the work is signed off by a Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, all is good. Why do they let aircraft fly after a wreck but not a car with a minor problem? I dont doubt your word Andrew, but just dont understand the logic used by government. I guess they will do anything to protect local manufacturers.

It can be stashed infront of the fuse box and is hidden by the cover. Hiding it should be enough, a police search of your car (on the side of the road) can only be done with your permission. They can look under seats and on the floor (without permission) but they are not allowed to dismantle things.

Use the compressor with a sander to help with the prep work. (anything beats dooing it all by block)

A shift kit won’t change the final rwkw, but it will shift a lot quicker than a manual. Old autos lost much of their power (compared to a manual) because the torque converter never fully locked up with the flywheel (there was always some slippage as fluid was pumped through the torque converter) modern autos however do lock up (manually) as the 2 speeds get close together, which reduces much of the difference between the two. I agree however that an auto should be a few rwkw down if a manual was put into the same car (but we aren’t talking a lot of kw). The other thing to consider is that an auto increases an engines torque (which is more important than kw anyway). When you also consider: 1. The speed it can change gears - faster than a manual ever will (after the shift kit is installed) 2. An auto is easy to cruise in and copes well with bumper-to-bumper traffic 3. You don’t stall at the lights because the clutch has very little feel (most embarrassing) 4. The cost to overhaul is chicken feed compared to replacing a 3-plate carbon fibre clutch (or any other clutch for high power uses) 5. It leaves your left arm free to play with your girlfriend in the front seat Unless you are looking at a track application an auto is better in almost every way, and only then until a 6 speed auto is available for the skylines.

I picked up a line from Brisbain a few week ago and drove it back. It had lots of rice and wouldnt get through Regency. I took it to the Sturt DMV and they did the checks and let me go. They were nice guys, picked up that my tint was too dark, but didnt make me remove it. Didnt worry about SAFC, RPM, Turbo timer, Bleed Valves etc.

You will always get a harmonic when air moving in a pipe, exits the pipe. The length/diameter and other considerations effect the harmonic (just like a flute or other wind instrument) of the pipe. Turbo'd engines don’t need to worry about these harmonics because unlike a NA engine (which in effect has an open pipe from the valve to the exhaust tip) there is a spinning impeller in the way and this destroys any harmonic coming back up the exhaust. The benefit of good harmonics in NA engines is that they can create a scavenging effect that helps extract the exhaust gasses from the cylinder (it actually produces a positive effect, like having a vacuum, and is better than having no exhaust at all). It was this technology that gave Yamaha motorcycles their advantage in the 1950s. Yamaha used to make musical instruments (and still do) but a motorcycle company in Germany closed shop at the end of WWII and went over to Japan to work in partnership with Yamaha (I believe it had something to do with the government compulsory acquiring businesses to rebuild Germany at the end of the war, or limitations on the types of machinery that businesses could have to stop them making military equipment)

You dont want backpressure on ANY car, but there are issues around noise that are fixed with mufflers (which add pressure). A NA car needs the correct exhaust harmonics to function at its peek efficiency, so disconnecting the exhaust can reduce performance in some cases. (this is often mistaken for a need of backpressure)

My car is in a similar situation (probably driven twice a month) You battery should probably be disconnected and time given to warm it up gently when it is started.

Dinnerand Cruise over the long weekend
4door_Sleeper replied to 4door_Sleeper's topic in South Australia
It could have been me. (my brain hurts if I go back that far) I would have been in my wifes car and it would have been full of kids. I probably would have checked out a nice Supra. -

EDIT... UPDATE... EDIT... UPDATE ...EDIT Due to the restaurant being booked out on Saturday the dinner (Mongolian BBQ)is now on Sunday. Please PM me if you can come (name and number attending) and I will confirm the booking with gtrGhosTDoGG11 (Will) Due to high police presence this weekend the cruise has been cancelled but if you want to meet up and drive in together the meeting points are at Marion and Ingle Farm. -
Dont worry SLIDE, some minds will never be open to the benifits of an auto. I guess they spent too much time in their 1980s family auto. I have to agree with you though, the few who try and give me a run all apear in the rear view vission mirror.

this is why you earn the big bucks, and I dont. Great Idea. Do we have a volunteer to organise the Southern half of the cruise? -

OK any ideas from the lurkers? _ I see Timmmayy and Nightcrawler here as well. Up for a cruise and food, or just food? I could post up something in the SA forum if there are a few others interested.

Should be easy to do yourself. (have you taken the front bar off yourself before? this would be the hardest bit) Once the bar is off you have easy access to the clamps and brackets. I used petrol to clean mine out (I think it picks up the oil easier than metho (metho is an alcohol product, and petrol is an oil base product - Like disolves like as my yr 12 chem teacher would say) Leave it to air for an hour in the sun before putting it back on. If the cash isnt a problem, its always easier to have someone else do it, but I enjoy the personal satisfaction of doing it myself. PS - my car is a 33 gtst so someone else with a 32 GTR may be able to confirm how easy the job would be if the front bar was left on.

Often wondered whose car/s they were. I work in the big building on the other side of the park. (what dam time do you arrive to get a park there, they are always gone when I look?) -
That doesn’t match with the symptoms listed. (ie the jump start bit)
