  1. But surly when you turn the engine off, the water pressure would be higher and you would see some water in the oil. (just a thought)
  2. 3 kids in the back of a 4door skyline or a Stega is a bit of a squeze. I have a sedan and its brilliant for 2 kids or even 2 adults (not too tall) but stick 3 kids side by side for a trip of 20min or more and youll be ready to kill them when you get to your destination. (well some times - especially if they are a bit grouchy) The only way to take 3 kids in a sedan is to have one in the front seat, one in the back seat and one in the boot.
  3. Has anyone got a copy of this article "Modifying Under-Car Airflow, Part 1" it is in Issue 321 of AutoSpeed. I was interested and thought a few others on this forum might like to share it too.
  4. Often a head gasket but it can come from a few other places. Not 100% sure about skylines but it could also be from the water pump if its corroded through (more likely to be water in the oil than oil in the water. Not a good sign in any event. Get it checked out ASAP. OR take the Dodgey Brothers option and add a can of CHEM WELD.
  5. I ran faster with it off. If I leave it on it selects overdrive too early and reduced my ET, if the car were LOTS quicker I may select it when I redline in drive. Just think of overdrive as another gear, the differenc beeing that 1st and second are reduced gears (crank spins faster than the tail shaft) which will provide extra torque, third is a one to one ratio (ie crank and tailshaft spin at the same speed, however in some autos it can be slightly overdriven), then overdrive spins the tailshaft faster than the crank butas a consequence you will have less torque going to the wheels) hope this clears it up - not the best explanation but after a few woodstocks what can you expect.
  6. Actually its the other way around. A flared shift means the clutch packs slip more and this is what generates a lot of the heat. Heat is also made as the trans fluid is forced through the torque converter (but this will be constant for a given amount of power, however more power equals more heat) Sharp sort shifts will reduce the fluid temp, but since these are higher than std powerd motors a trans cooler is a good investment.
  7. I love mongolian. Used to be a regular at the "House of Kahn" and "Ghenhis Kahn" When do people want to go? (Anything other than the first weekend in April for me)
  8. Not long now. Whilst its been a while since we saw the GTR's showing the others the way home, and its true that half the crowd and mullet wearing bogans, who else is going this year? I think I recall some good pics posted on the forum from last years race. I've got my glod pass, and my pit pass, and since my other half isnt interested in comming its a great opportunity to catch up with a few mates, sink some suds and get a bit messy. If you are going, drop past and say hi. We usually hang out behind stand G (start finish line) within shouting range of the drinks tent.
  9. I read an article recently (but it may have been an old magazine) in which they interviewed a driver who won the "Pikes Peek" run. He commented that he got to race against a lot of WRC drivers for some event and he beat them all. (These drivers were some of his idols) Sorry I cant remember his name (anyone else here read the article) but either he is an exceptional driver or WRC drivers aren't driving at the same level.
  10. We normally have dinners every second month. Where do you work?
  11. This a a question for the guys and girls in the know. My 110,000km rb25det has had a new turbo installed and is making 220rwkw at 14psi. The turbo is/should be capable of more but the tuner left it at 14psi for running in and reliability and recommended that a new head gasket be installed if I increase the pressure much further. My question is - how good is the std head gasket, and at what boost level should it be changed? I dont really want to know that its good for 30psi for 100km, I want to set it and forget it. Initially I was going to just let them install the head gasket (my last one cost me $30 for a 6 clyinder valiant) but when I found out that I would be up for $500 plus labour I thought I would seek some advice first. SK and others please feel free to comment.
  12. Great day/night Thanks andrew for your help in organising it. Could you download some of the photos you took for those who missed out.
  13. Anyone need a lift? (plan on having a few drinks) I'll head up with the group for the cruise and stay until the last run of the night. I am going to drive and the 4 door can take a few extras if needed.
  14. I thought it also stops a layer of gas forming between the pad and the disk (during hard braking) which reduces the coefficient of friction. The slots allow this gas to vent and thus improves the efficiency of the system. Secondary benifits include a cleaning system which aids in removal of impurities from the disk, pad or local environment. The disadvantage is slightly quicker pad wear.
  15. Car drives much better, very crisp changes when the foot is planted, yet very smooth for gentle day to day driving. I haven't put the hi stall in yet, that will be one of my next improvements.
  16. Why convert to a manual? Come check out my auto, (I'll take you for a spin) I added a shift kit and its much better. There is a group buy going at the moment on these shift kits through MV automatics (in Belair SA) for $295 which is cheaper than a clutch for the manual.
  17. I'd be keen. I tried to organise this last year without success. Again are you after an SAU thing or just a group thing.
  18. anyone here know who owns a white 34 gtt? had a bit of fun on the road between Gawler and Lyndoch with it over the weekend
  19. pics etc comming soon, just got to borrow the camera
  20. No - I re read it after my post, and realised I'd missed one key word. I went to delete my post but it stuck.
  21. Valve body - controlls the pressure and timming for gear changes. The higher the pressure the faster the gear change. Durability - Slower shifts mean that the bands (clutch packs) slide together much slower, thus more wear and heat, but very smooth. Fast shifts are a little less smooth but produce less wear on the bands and less heat.
  22. :werd:
  23. I think you will be OK for the next few weeks (so long as others are taking up the group buy - cos I can see it taking a week or so turn around for each block of 4 Mike can make) So who has rung up for this already.
