R30 Power Steering Boxes .

280zx series 2 was 82-83 I think. Yeah a few people have suggested S12 and the bloke from datsport also suggested a bluebird rack. Let me know how it goes if you go ahead was the job. What's the deal with cut and shut control arms, needs to be x-rayed to get engineer cert right? -

That makes converting to rack and pinion sound even better. Frount runner (just from talking to some people who know Nissan) is currently series 2 280zx x-crossmember, rack and I may have the use the lower control arms and steering column. I need to spend some time at wreakers with a tape measure. What measurement do I need other than the size of the rack, were it sits in relation to the control arms and x-member, tie rod length, x-member size and were it sits in relation to the front wheels, track width of car, amount of left to right movement of rack/tie rods, pivot points of tie-rod arms Does any of this make sense of am I just talking shit? Dont know much but I am trying to learn. Cheers -

Spoke to the guys from datsport very helpful. http://www.datsport.com/ Unfortuneatley the 1600 suspension and steering is different enough to not allow their kits to be used on DR. But the guy I spoke to really knows his old nissan suspension. -

Apparently late model 280zx were rack and pinion (for 8 months!!) and the x-member and rack can be used in R30 without to much drama. Can anyone confirm this?. Cheers -

The late 280ZX is rack and pinion and the rack supposedly fit C210 / C230. How similar are these to R30? Found info here. http://www.datsunworld.com/techtips.htm Cheers -

Be very interested is what he has to say. Also found the following on rack and pinion into 1600. http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=439...0eddcefc55dddee the 280zx was rack and pinion I think. Would this maybe fit? Cheers -

I just spoke to one of the guys at Nissco and he has heard that the R31 crossmembers fit with some modification. If you don't want to go that way maybe talk to these guys.http://www.maddat.com.au/ They do full front end rebuilds for 1600's (similar to R30 I've heard) which apparently work very well. Maybe they could provide and answer. As for S13 rear end is it just a matter of time and lots of $$$? Cheers -
Is the front bar still happening? Cheers

Do any other steering racks/crossmembers fit or be easier to fit into a DR30:confused:(S13, R32). Are S13 racks rack and pinion? Cheers -
RSX84, I just call the guy orginizing it and the group buy is still going. He does not know if anyone has installed the kit in R30. Contact Pete [email protected] 0409226626 Will the full kit (designed to fit R31) fit into an R30? I've heard the steering set up is quite different. If it does fit, does that mean I can also fit the R32 steering rack too as some of the guys on that fourm are talking about? (converting to rack and pinion :headbang: ). I've heard the R31 crossmember and streering rack do not fit R30. Is this true? I would really really like to improve the steering in my DR30. Cheers

Anyone heard anything about, or used HD coilovers. (link below) http://www.sharifcaraudio.com.au/index.php...roducts&pid=176 I've heard they are good quality and are afforable. The 'HR' type have stroke and 12 point damper adjustment and the height can be altered without changing spring pre load. Hopefully using fully adjustable coilovers will minimize some of the problems when using S13 parts and allow the car's suspension to be tune propely (accurate? ) Can someone who has done the S13 convertion on a road car please comment on how it has changed the way the car handles, any problems that you have had etc :wavey: . They normally come with 7k spring front and 6K springs rear but can be got in any spring rate. What spring rates would people recommend for a road DR (firm ride but not uncomfortable) that will sometimes be taken on to a track. I'm about spend quite a bit on these coilover so any advise would be appreciated. Cheers

Re: do it yourself front brake upgrade for the r30 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can someone who has actually had the S13 converstion done and driven around while, tell me what it is like? I have been talking to discopotato about the whole thing and the guy does make some very good points (mainly bump & upwards travel I think) about why this is not an ideal set up. (as far as I know) I am having it properly sit up by a suspension specialist so hopefully this will minimize any problems, Yes? Surely the lighter strut bodies of most aftermarket coilovers would reduce unsprug weight much more than converting std struts to height adjustable coilover? I have heard that reducing unsprung weight is one of the best things you can do to improve the way your car handles. Cheers I dont know shite  but I am learning

Good call!!! But you have got to admit the man has got a point. For me the real pleasure of owning a hot car is driving it not looking at it, and when you are driving you dont really take that much notice of what the car looks like. But disco you gotta admit it looks GOOOODD! On the flip side, if you were going to spend all that $$$ on getting the car looking phat then hopefully you would have the sense to spend equally large amounts on getting the car to perform as it should. With that in mind has anyone in Aus really developed a DR30's suspension. ie wishbone, multilink (please forgive if question is stupid, I don't know shite) Oh Yeah, I'm with stu_r30, whats going on with that front bar?
-
:uh-huh: That looks sooo mean. I want that body kit. Anyone ever seen something like this in Aus? Anyone feel like making one up? Cheers

I know mate, based in Melbourne. That why they were my first choice but brand new it is a bit to expensive. Cheers -
Alot of guys have recommended Autronic SMC. I had a second hand ECU and loom etc lined up but it looks like that may have fallen though. Brand new Autronic seems pretty expensive. (and I don't need Anti-lag) I would prefer to buy an Australian product and at the moment I am leaning towards Microtech (my mechanic also specicalizes in Microtech). Price is also an issue. Microtech also seems like pretty good value which it good because I don't want to send more than $2000 approx. But I have also seen a lot of guys with haltech,EMS, Wolf3d. Has anyone had the chance to witness some of these different setups in action? Can you point out the pros and cons of each. Is it just a matter of your tuner knowing what they are doing. Is it just same sh%t different bucket. I don't know much but I am learning. Cheers

Hey Bek, Yeah sweet ride. Colour looks good (the Muppets, Yaaay). Which engine to go with I guess comes down to cash. A good cheap way may be (as already stated) the L24E for L28E - from the MR30 and 280ZX - should go in without to much hassle. With some breathing mods and extractors/exhaust you should be able to get reasonable economy and good useable power for the road. Or maybe the RB30E from the R31 skylines (you can do lots to these engines to make them more powerful and efficient) I drive a MR30 with a L24E and even though these are not the toughest of the L series engines with basic maintenance I have never had a problem. With some suspension mods I think I would be a great little car. Keep us posted. Cheers
