  1. no rb30 I have every seen has oil squirters! Thats about 32-35 at last count I have 9 in the shed and none of them have them. A 26 head is a far better choice you will find the 25 cam, and valve choice limiting to the power figure you are hoping to achieve. A well prepped standard crank should be okay, just be sure to run a good dampner, and a really good quality clutch that is balancd also. Also balance each rod and piston assembly. Also consider an Autronic if you are willing to rewire the car ecu from scratch you have as good results as MOTEC and if its not a dedicated race car alot of the Motecs systems are wasted on you, so for half the price the Autronic might be an option. I would budget $8K for a bottom end I would budget $5-6K for head work and plenum not including the purchase of the head About $5k for the driveline, mechanical diff, gearbox rebuild and good clutch, and tailshaft service. I would then budget 5k for miscelaneous like fuel system, ecu, ignition, wring etc. So yeah its expensive for that much power, if you have more questions fire away.
  2. Rb20 NA/turbo, rb25 NA, and RB30 NA boxes are basically all identicle except for small stuff like carrier bearings etc and the fact they have different internal gearing but the input and output shaft are the same and they are the same size internally. A VLT and rb25 turbo box are quite alot bigger than the NA boxes, in every way, thus they are alot stronger and they are also more expensive as they are sought after!!!
  3. I agree it is all well and good to know the rules and rights but if I was a cop and some 20 year old in a skyline started getting all by the book then I would try my hardest to hit them up on every defect tec I could. My missus is trining to be a cop at the moment, so it has given me a really good insight into what it takes to be a "good" cop. The thing most of the cops out there probably start out as good cops but over the years get comfortable and start not caring, or once in the job getting on a constant power trip. Also I dont know anything about other states procedure but for the AFP the police are under so much scrutiny its ridiculous. The amount of protocol and procedure that you have to know and stick to just when pulling someone over is crazy and if you get it wrong you are suposed to be dealt with. We should all know our rights and when we are pulled over by an arrogant dick for nothing we should retaliate with the appropriate measures but not all police are assholes. I have had heaps of bad dealings with the police, but just the other day I had a really good one, like anything there is good and bad.
  4. yeah it will be in the top 60 show saturday also. Colour is a secret as per the deal with House of Kolor, as they have sponsored the paint and its a custom kandy mix made by them. It will stand out it will be the only datsun 1600 there with 335 wide rear tires!!!
  5. Hi all, To all those planning to go to summernats this year make sure you come and say hello. My brother will be unveiling his Datsun 1600 show car ( there was a lead up story in this months fast fours) in the meguires judging hall on friday night 8.30. To all those that frequent the summernats or to those coming for the first time please dont be scared to come up and strike a conversation just say your on the forums!! Oh an if you like the car pop a vote in the peoples choice voting on fri night or saturday we want to have a crack at the big one so everybody's help is appreciated. Have a good holidays everyone and be great to see you at summernats 19. Cheers, Daniel
  6. engine building isnt hard for people with mechanical thinking, but wait till or if something goes wrong and all the blame can only rest with yourself, and it could be a silly mistake that a professional that works on engines everday wouldnt make. (but they sometimes make other mistakes). Looks good mate good luck with the build, should be a real nice thing when finished!!!
  7. to those interested I have designed a new adapter (Gary you will probably like this). It will tie the mains girdle to the side of the bloock as well as the sump, and it is heat treat 6061 aluminium so while is is 40mm plate alloy and strong it is quite light and the aluminium should help dampen some harmonic shocks.
  8. rb26/20 has more horizontal ribbing which is hard to see in your pic cause the engine is dirty but the rb30 has more verticle ribbing!!
  9. This thread brought a huge smile to my face when I read it!!!!!!! Talk to any good engine builder and you know what he hates??? Shit that is talked by keyboard warriors who read something somewhere five years ago that was written by a journo in the first place. REAL WORLD RESULTS PEOPLE, I dont care if you test the rb30 block to the cows come home, they are proven in Australia from asshole to breakfast and I have never heard of none ever split an engine block or done the crank from a weakness in design its always a bearing problem, from a poorly designed oiling system a problem that all rb's have.... In the REAL WORLD a 2% gain in peak power wouldnt even be able to be felt in the car let be honest a cold night would be more noticable, a 20mg higher magnesium count doesnt mean shit cause something else will go wrong before that even gets a look in. PLease to the doubters please show me all these GTRS that have ripped up the block becuase of torque loadings due to the front diff??? There arent alot of GTRs with rb30's in them and I know of every single one and have researched extensively myself or was involved someway in the build or sold my adapter to and have heard the results!!! Not having a go at anyone but in the real world everyone has budgetry constrants, and the guy who goes for a rb30 over an os kit or a 24u block shouldn't feel he has an inferior product cause in the "real world" the differences in metal composition etc wont play a part in the real demise or survival of an engine!!!!
  10. There used to be a guy around called Matt Waterman motorsport design that used to sell made carbon sheeting in different thicknesses etc and different looks, was reasonably priced also dont know if he is still going???
  11. troy did his on a mill he has photos of the process, i'm with sk i do them with the die grinder it takes no BS half hour including cleaning time!
  12. MattSR Yes the exhaust usually flows less on most engines but here are some figures for you. The exhaust on an rb26 flows 65% of the inlet. on a fj20 it is 85%, on a sr20 it is 88%. On a lexus v8 it it 90%, and the best factory headed production car is the evo 7 lancer with the exhaust flowing 96% of the inlet. So in respect to these figures you are correct but the rb26 is dropping the ball big time and coul be alot better, and alot of the design has to do with port angle due to probably packaging restrictions due to twin turbos.
  13. Its not possible to overcam the inlet so thats garbage, the inlet side of a rb26 head flows 40% more air than the exhaust side so in reality you can run a much larger cam on the inlet. The true reason you see the bigger exhaust side is to get it flowing without the overlap issues assciated with big cams, its to try and discuise overlap.... You want the exhaust to flow as much as possible as they are so crap from standard, but you dont want to have a lumpy idle or excessive loss of down low torque you run with the smaller inlet bigger exhaust as a trade off. If you just dont care and want big all round you run with the same. Hope this helps and for futer reference on the flow bench the rb26 inlet runs 145cfm as opposed to the exhaust running only 95cfm, the exhaust side of an rb26 sux big time!!!!!
  14. hpc from our experience is more expensive but the coating last alot longer and work alot better and they are always a higher quality in finish, I wont bag the others but we have had a alot of stuff for show cars HPC'd and its the only brand we will keep using with confidence!!! Oh and it works awesome can touch the extractors after about 10mins of cool down after the car has been running!!!
  15. so it runs???? You need a more specific explanation for anyone to take a real educated guess at what it could be!!! As Troy said its a simple piston engine same design as a holden six in principle it wont be anything someone with an idea shouldnt be able to diagnose in a few seconds!!!
  16. The sr20 ones dont have the oil squiter recess and guess what no problems!!!
  17. definative answer from mr science, a friend of mine that is a scientist but also likes nissans. As Greg said, they are forged mild steel, temper toughened (hardened), then machined and nitrided.
  18. They are steel sorry, I dont believe they are forged, I guess it depends on your process of forging and the different understading of it??? Is there any way to prove a theory either way, be interesting to know. Forged for me means heated metal pressed into a shape??? I have a snapped rb20 crank and the metal is a little pourass like you see on something that is cast, infact the look of it looks like die cast thats the texture for those who understand, maybe that was due to the way it broke??? Now that I think about it I dont really know why I thought it was iron maybe cause it looks cast, momentary brain failure i guess, haha!!!
  19. They are cast iron, that is then heat treated (toughened) and nitrided!!!!
  20. the nismo one will, as they spent along time perfecting it and this is there whole claim to the success of the surge (plenum) design but at 1800 it would want to!!!!!
  21. Dave it should not be a problem and its easy to do for any machining shop, it shouldnt hurt your bottom end to drop the cradle and big ends take the crank out and get the collar fitted @ around $500 its a cheaper alternative to new rebuild!!!
  22. spx25t Seen your car doing some runs, looks cool and goes well also awesome street car you have there!!! Old man picked up overall winner of show and go, so it was a long but good weekend, awesome event that gets better and better every year. Hopefully in the future ANDRA and WSID will actually work for there money and prepare the track properly, as alot of people we talked to said it was ridiculousy bad, people like Mark Hayes with the baby blue torana said it was the worst track they have experienced there since it opened!!!
  23. The plates are $450, the way my plates work there would have to be a ridiculous amount of force to snap a bolt in fact it would almost be impossible, but there is room to run bigger bolts if you felt it was nessassary!!!
  24. Because if you machine te block to acieve a higher CR, most off the shelf pistons run at 0 deck height to achieve a good squish area with standard type machine work. If he machines the block lower to sit the piston higher in the bore the pistons will sit proud of the block and you will have less squish you can compensate by running thicker head gasket to get it back but then the CR falls as well and you end back to where you started!!!!
