ARRRGGHHHH...servicing prob...(long)...
Kinks replied to DJ984's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Does it feel like the car is as fast as usual? Check the vacuum lines haven't been stuffed around, I managed to do that to my car when changing the spark plugs Otherwise not sure why it wouldn't boost up.. -
Plenums are always hot from the engine tho?? I just threw a little temp sensor into the 31 and have the sensor tucked into a join between the crossover pipe and metal piping to the FMIC. Should give decent readings from there, will have to see what results I get tomorrow..

yikes. so they didn't do what you asked, they didn't service your car (maybe they did the oil - you better check your oil and filter to make sure they're new btw). why did you pay them ANY money? -
If you were really being chased you would be too glad your limbs are all still attached rather than carrying on about losing your licence. As Brendan said it sounds like you're learning the hard way. There are rules, break them and there are consequences. "but but, I have an HSC exam to drive to" doesn't cut it, if I was a magistrate who heard that I'd tell you to catch the bus. You should have gone to a lit area, a cop shop, a servo or called the cops. What will speeding do if you get chased? The chaser will speed too. Now you have two cars screaming through the streets - it's probably the dumbest thing you can do, no offence. You're still young and learning, just make sure you DO learn or you'll just continue making life more difficult than it needs to be. As for 17 year olds doing 30km/h above the limit in a suburban area, I don't approve of that at all. There's a reason why you've lost 7 points, and it's not "because life's unfair". Think about it.

have a great xmas/NY mate..

I think the cost was 100 each not 50, making the break even point 41 rather than 82. makes the numbers look more sensible that way!! even 41/50 was a lot for a skidpan day, but it would have gone off regardless. I'm wondering how much having the forums down contributed to the absenteeism and how much was just due to people being slack.

17/12? so they've started already? Damn, I've missed my last chance to go out and cut sik before christmas Oh well, tis the season. When do double demerits come off?

You'll get a small fraction more power, but you'll let dust, dirt, pollen, insects etc into your engine which will make it wear out prematurely. So you'll get more power for a while but then things will become worn, compression will drop and you'll end up with a shitter.

Anyone's first car should be worth less than $5k and their second car should be worth less than $15k $50k is a LOT to put in the hands of someone who's 17. Shit can will and does happen, and if it has any power i wouldn't insure you either!! Get a cheap car < $10k get 3rd party property on it and you can use the no-claim history on that to increase your NCB when you take out comprehensive on your next car.

bummer.. oh well i'm no use then

Not unless you've got a strong finger

rb20det.com has a reference guide

Winds down? Mine will spin for a few second after the engine has stopped, that's normal unless the clutch is engaged in which case it should stop instantly. It's not coming from the fan belt or clutch fan region, sounds like the front of the block, and if you listen closely it sounds like the noise is coming out from underneath the timing belt cover.

GTR Boy.. questioning an RBT will land you in hot water, don't be smart with cops. They have a job to do. If a cop pulled me over for an "RBT" and demanded to search my car for no good reason THEN I would have a problem with it. If they pull me over I blow in the tube and they say have a good one then that's fine. I'm not surprised they hassled you more after that remark. Also your horn not working is a bit dangerous, when someone cuts you off all you can do is brake you can't warn them if they haven't seen you. What if it's a B double and he keeps coming over? You're ****ed. My horn wasn't working when I bought my 31 and it was the first thing I fixed. Just my opinion, btw. They obviously decided to check your car out though, or you had a wheel with no horn button on it... Touch wood I haven't been genuinely harrassed by police. I'm positive I'll get pulled over this summer though, either for exhaust or the noise my car makes when it goes around corners...

you can't get fire and theft insurance in NSW. there's too much fire and theft here

oxygen is a hazardous chemical just like hydrogen. 100% oxygen will make things that don't burn easily, burn easily. I was under the impression that compressed air wouldn't have as much water content as normal, but maybe not. I would say the benefit of having dry air would outweigh pure nitrogen. Sucking normal air through a dessicant prior to compressing would probably do the same thing.
-
After a couple of track days you would know what to set your cold/hot pressure to for best grip/handling. Nitrogen tyres still change pressure just claim not as much. You will still find that tyre temperature and track temperature and track surface quality will make differences to how your car goes around the circuit anyway. The main benefits would be if nitrogen is more consistent, and keeps your tyres cooler. Some people say this is noticeable, others say it's not. Might be worth experimenting in if you're really keen on getting that last bit out of your car but I'm sure other upgrades make a bigger difference to confidence and lap times.

happy birthday and yeah, you're pretty much on the money there...
-
Yeah I hate servos... Every time I go to one I end up spending far too much money :bahaha: Dale, once you're on the other side of 21 (as most of us are) you tend not to engage in what is affectionately called 'loitering' much. Unless it's at the end of when you stop to have a chat and then carry on. We're all old and boring here, prefer to get out for a decent drive rather than hang around one place all evening.
-
Nitrogen sounds like a scam to me. Too much hassle. I don't mind checking my tyres every so often.

Either way I'd really prefer not to break an axle so that I can find out what happens! Mini spools and full spools have a solid centre so no diff/spider gears. Basically the pinion turns the crown wheel and that's connected straight to the axles. I've got no idea what the difference between a mini and a full is though. cul: full lockers are fantastic on the open road but as you say, they make city tasks (turning at the lights, out of side streets, and reverse parking) a chore. And yeah, illegal.. I believe you can drive safely with a locked diff in any weather but most people being idiots, it's probably safer to say "you're not allowed"... Sounds like Jay has the best option, having a locker that unlocks so you can take slow corners is ideal.

I said I couldn't come on thursday which should have been more than enough time for someone else to take my place (people like John wanted to come), but the forums were down most of the time so nobody could fill in the numbers. I'm really bummed about missing the day, would have been a ripper. But there's no excuse for the organisers being out of pocket, so if you can put up bank details for Moto Concepts (or PM me) I'll sling 50 bucks their way. Geoff
