I have been compiling a list of links to dash systems and GPS data systems that may be of interest to you all. This Racepac UDX dash looks quite good. Shame it uses external sensors. Its quite big as well and only USD $700 Probably work out cheaper than quality guages. http://www.racepak.com/Drag_Racing/UDX.php I can alarm all the functions I want in the MOTEC and use the shift light indicator to display all alarms etc. But I need a display I can use to page through to find out whats wrong.
-
The Stack, MXL both have CAN bus that can interface to the Motec. But the Racespec offering only has a serial connection.
-
Is there any opportunity to interface this unit to say a MOTEC or other ECU using either CAN buss or RS232 so you can use the ECU sensors?
-
What a good time to rejig this thread. I have been agonizing over this for the last 3 weeks. I have a special need as I want to interface the display with the M800 Motec i have via the CAN buss. The cheapest Motec is the SDL which is $2500 odd and very no frills. There is a new MXL display called the Strada which is identical to the PISTA but a lot cheaper with no track mapping. Both these units interface through CAN interface or Serial to your ECU. There is another from the UK by a company called racesepc called a DASH 2. But the digits dont seem very clear on that one. IMO all these units are TOO small. The Stack looks good to me but its a stupid price. So far I have bought a Shift-I rev display and am looking for a 5 inch tach. But the stumbling block now is I need a 2 line serial or CAN interface 2 line data module like the Motec MDD But without the stupid $1500 price tag. I dont want to duplicate all the engine sensors with another stand alone solution when the ECU already has the data. I think ergonomically the STACK unit is closest to what i need. But it is a ridiculous price. Also, I have heard the data rate of the MXL systems is a bit slow to update the screen. But I havent seen one to confirm that yet. If anyone knows of a 2 line data display that can interface via Serial or CAN please let me know As I am running out of options.

When is there going to be a Victorian Superlap ?? -
Selling my brand new PLX devices R500 wideband O2 sensor system. It is an essential tool for any ECU tuning. I was going to use this on my car with the stock ECU, But managed to get a Motec which has wideband inputs so I dont need this any longer. It was bought about 12 months ago and it has sat in its box never used. This is a fairly high end system. It has a number of programmable inputs and can log up to 5 using the internal memory. It can then be downloaded to your PC for analysis. Including EGT with their optional EGT probe. From memory it can log up to 45 minutes just using internal memory. Here is the link to the manufacturers web page. http://www.plxdevices.com/R-500_productinfo.htm This kit is discounted down to USD $500 plus freight on line in the USA. I will sell this one delivered Australia wide for $790. Here are a few reviews. http://forums.evolutionm.net/aem-ems/15733...0-wideband.html http://importtuner.automotive.com/25663/07...itor/index.html Please send me an email if interested as I dont seem to get email notifications of PM from SAU grahamrjohnson@yahoo.com

Show Me Your Racing Machines
Tektrader69 replied to screamin''s topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
There was a fair bit of tooing and froing as i didnt want some of the gear. So the brakes came off, drivers seat wouldnt fit my ass in it so it came out as well. It had side mount Inter Coolers but would have preferred a FMIC, so they came out. After looking at the fabrication he had already done i am gonna get the SMIC's to make my life easier. So basically it was a bit cheaper but not much. -

Thought you may be interested in the project I just picked up from QLD. 2 seater Z32 hardtop. It was an unfinished project which is going to save me a heap of time. Forged engine with Hi flowed stock turbos, Ported heads, 1mm oversized valves Full cage. Twin catch cans Large PWR radiator and custom air intake. Motec M800 and AEM CD2 spark amp. Suspension is Proflex with remote reservoirs in each corner. ROH alloys with Hoosier semi slick all brand new. I also got 5 full boxes of extra parts, pedal boxes etc etc. I am still trying to figure out what is what. Need to track down a MOTEC digital dash. Should be fun. I am hoping to have this finished by Mid 2009. The chasis is still a bit fat so a course of dieting to rip some more weight out of it is the next step. Dropped in to catch up with some mates in Sydney on the way back. -

great I will be there. Where do we pay and when? -
You are spot on about the local suits. I tried a few on today at revolution. Their 2 layer suit in XL fitted OK BUT when i started questioning them about what it is made out of. Guess what ?? No Nomex WTF ?? They want me to pay $699 for a suit that dosent even have Nomex in it Even their 3 layer suits only have a NOMEX outter Not inners. The other thing that gets up my nose is that they want $180 extra to make it with action stretchy arms which I need. It isnt cheap anymore when you factor that in. The Sparco's i tried that almost fitted are 64's. They are a bit tight for me I really need a 66. I think I will try to find a Sparco 66 somewhere to try on. If it fits OK then i will get it from the US. LOL about the exchange rate. I spent about 4K when we where are US 0.98 !! Got a brand new Z32 98 model year manual box for $2310 landed. Cheaper than a rebuild I am so happy I spent the money when i did
-
Its the size that is the problem. I am a big bugger and all the suits here I can get for a good price, are cut for little Italians and dont fit my shoulders. So I can rule out Sparco and most of the other Euro suits. Thats why i was looking at the US to get one, as their sizes are closer to Aussie guys sizes. Its a big mistake to make when you cant try it on. I wouldnt bother buying a NON FIA suit
-
Thats what I found as well, I cant find any mention of whether SFI-5 approved suits can be used. THIS is the question. I think I will be calling CAMS tomorrow and ask.
-
I am staggered by the price of some of the three layer suits here. So I am looking in the USA for one. Can anyone tell me if the SFI/5 suits are approved for use here? I can only find a reference to FIA approvals in the CAMS rules which the US suits dont seem to cross reference to. Any clues that will help ?

-
